Chapter 147: Shameless

When he heard Fu Chen’an’s words, Wang Tiezhu suddenly withered like a frozen eggplant. Even though he wanted to buy the soap, if Fu Chen’an refused to sell it, he wouldn’t insist.

”So it was like that,” he sighed.

Since he had said so, Wang Tiezhu could only give up. When the two of them arrived at the bathhouse area, they saw that the atmosphere was tense and silent, unlike usual.

As soon as he noticed this, Fu Chen’an observed the situation and saw someone who shouldn’t be here. He was taken aback but didn’t say anything. After all, this was a public bathhouse, and there was no rule stating that the General couldn’t take a bath here.

Unlike him, Wang Tiezhu was not as observant, so he missed the General, who was bathing in the last booth. Seeing that there was an empty booth, he quickly carried water and filled the water vat.

”Hey, what happened to you all? Why are you so quiet today?” he asked in confusion.

Fu Chen’an looked around and saw that there was only one empty booth beside the General. He hesitated for only a moment before going to fill the water vat.

Seeing him come over, Lu Qianxuan said casually, ”You usually take a bath so late?”

Hearing this, Fu Chen’an thought for a moment before bowing. ”Reporting to the General, this subordinate has just returned from patrol duty.”

”No need for formalities,” Lu Qianxuan said as he scrubbed his body.

Fu Chen’an glanced at the foam on his body and then at the soap bar placed on the box.

Noticing this, Lu Qianxuan said, ”That soap was sent by my wife.”

Since he had said so, Fu Chen’an didn’t bother to expose his lie. He carved a small mark on his soap.

With just a glance, he could recognize his belongings. He never expected the General to be so shameless. Really, one couldn’t judge a book by its cover.

When he saw that Fu Chen’an said nothing, Lu Qianxuan heaved a silent sigh of relief. He usually took a bath in his tent, but preparing the bath water was too troublesome, so he decided to come to this bathhouse.

Another reason was that he had noticed how good Fu Chen’an’s hair was. Curious about how he took care of it, he came to check on him.

Unaware that someone was paying close attention to him, Fu Chen’an took out his shampoo, hair conditioner, body soap, facial soap, and scrubs from his basin.

Seeing him take out so many items, Lu Qianxuan’s eyes flickered with curiosity. He almost scrubbed his skin raw, but he deliberately slowed down.

He watched as Fu Chen’an used the sandy-looking paste to scrub his body. With just a few scrubs, all the dirt and dead skin came off. After that, he used the soap bar to wash his body.

At first, Lu Qianxuan thought he would use the soap bar to wash his face and hair. Unexpectedly, he used a cream-like item to wash his face, then another gel-like item to wash his hair.

Just when he thought it was finally over, he saw Fu Chen’an apply a milky-white cream to his hair. He massaged his scalp for a few minutes before washing it off.

Seeing this, the General quickly rinsed the foam off his body and dried himself.

As soon as Fu Chen’an walked out of the booth, Lu Qianxuan followed him and asked, ”Fu Chen’an, what are those items?”

Learning from past experience, Fu Chen’an quickly hid his things and replied warily, ”General, these are gifts from my wife.”

The underlying meaning was clear. They were gifts from his wife, so as an unrelated man, he shouldn’t covet them.

Although Lu Qianxuan wanted the items, he was a General and had to maintain his public image. After hearing those words, he changed his approach.

”Fu Chen’an, when will your wife send food again? It has been so long. I don’t know if your wife still wants this job or not,” he said.

Hearing this, Fu Chen’an was shocked inwardly. His General was actually using this matter to threaten him. Did he really want those items that badly?

Recalling how happy his wife had been when she got the job, Fu Chen’an hesitated for a moment before finally relenting.

”General, these items are good. Even though this subordinate has already used half of them, if the General doesn’t despise them, this subordinate—”

Before he could finish, Lu Qianxuan interrupted, ”I won’t despise them.”

Although he was a General, he was still a young man who cared about his appearance. If he wanted to win his wife’s heart, he had to take care of himself. He couldn’t afford to look old and unkempt.

With that thought, he thickened his face and took the wooden basin from Fu Chen’an’s hands. Looking at him, he said generously, ”Fu Chen’an, you can tell your wife to be at ease. Just send the food whenever she has time.”

After saying this, he left in large strides. Staring at his retreating figure, Fu Chen’an could only let out a helpless sigh. He wondered whether his wife would scold the General again if she learned about this.

The other soldiers didn’t know what they had talked about, but they all saw the General take Squad Leader Fu’s wooden basin. Due to strict military discipline, no one dared to gossip, and the matter passed just like that.

Early the next morning, Yao Zhi woke up before dawn. She had finished grinding the fertilizer. Today, she planned to go buy some land.

Her husband was not a local, and he could only afford to buy this house. While the land was large, it was not fertile land. Even the land behind her backyard was not owned by them.

If she wanted to have a good life, she still had to farm. This way, she would be able to take out more things from her system. What’s more, in this era, farmers’ status was high despite being poor.
