Chapter 143: Ancient Method ( 2 )

Fu Chen’an cupped his fists, bowed, and replied with a steady tone, ”My wife and I didn’t seek any reward. We only hope that these methods can be popularized and benefit the people.”

When he heard his words, Yan Shu observed him for a while and realized that he wasn’t pretending.

Most of the soldiers came from farming families, including himself. They knew best how hard it was to earn a living relying on heaven and earth.

These methods not only use waste as the main material, but they are also said to be able to improve soil quality. If this matter were true, then the benefits would be far more than what they could imagine.

”Squad Leader Fu, follow me to report to Battalion Commander Gao.”

The two of them went to report to Gao Yan. Although he was calmer compared to Yan Shu, he was still shocked after reading the methods. Since this matter was of great importance, he brought the two of them and went to report to the General.

When they arrived at the General’s tent, Lu Qianxuan was in the middle of eating. He was eating a steamed bun with lotus paste filling when he saw them walk in.

”This subordinate greets the General,” the three of them bowed and said in unison.

With his mouth full, he only gestured for them to stand up and take a seat. After he swallowed his food, he asked, ”What brought you all here?”

Gao Yan stood up and handed the papers to him while saying, ”Reporting to the General, Squad Leader Fu submitted these methods. Since this matter is of great importance, this subordinate cannot make a decision and came to ask for the General’s decision.”

Lu Qianxuan raised his eyebrows when he heard this. It had been a long time since he ate food made by Fu Chen’an’s wife, and his appetite had decreased. So, after Cook Li sent the food over, he didn’t waste time and ate with relish.

He didn’t expect Fu Chen’an’s wife to not only be good at cooking, but also have this capability.

He shoved the half-uneaten steamed bun into his mouth before he took the papers and read them. The moment he saw the handwriting, he couldn’t help but praise it in his heart.

”Good calligraphy!”

Then, he glanced at Fu Chen’an. Even if his father-in-law was a Xiucai, was it possible for a commoner girl to have this level of calligraphy?

If his father-in-law was able to teach his wife to this level, how could he fail the imperial examination and be stuck as a Xiucai for so many years?

”This Fu Chen’an is not simple, and his wife is not simple either.”

After he admired the calligraphy for a moment, he finally read the contents.

At first, he was skeptical since the fertilizer was using waste as the main ingredient. But after he read the warnings and how to apply the fertilizers, he finally half-believed it.

Unlike Yan Shu and Gao Yan, he didn’t show any expression at all. He put the papers down and said, ”Since these methods were acquired from an ancient text, no one knows if these recipes are real or fake.”

”Gao Yan, send some soldiers out and gather the materials first. After you have enough materials, try the methods and consult with the military physicians to see if it’s safe for use.”

”This subordinate obeyed the order,” Gao Yan bowed.

”General, should we send people to gather the locusts from other areas too?” Gao Yan asked.

Lu Qianxuan thought for a moment. He could mobilize the soldiers to gather the materials from nearby areas. But if they went to further areas, they needed permission from the imperial court.

”No need. I will ask my wife to gather them.”

Hearing this, Gao Yan nodded and said, ”Understood.”

”All of you may leave,” Lu Qianxuan said while he picked up his brush.

Seeing this, the three of them left the General’s tent and went to Gao Yan’s tent. In less than an hour, groups of soldiers left the barracks and went to nearby villages to gather locusts and pig blood.

Soon after, an eagle flew out of the military camp and flew toward the direction of Zhu’an Town.

Unlike the messenger who used a fast horse, this eagle was trained since it was born and was given to Lu Qianxuan by his grandfather on his 15th birthday.

This eagle has been with him for 10 years and is very loyal to him. Besides him, only Xie Ya’er could order this eagle to send a message.

In less than an hour, the eagle had reached the General’s mansion and flew in a circle several times before it landed on the window of Xie Ya’er’s study.

Seeing the familiar eagle, she placed her brush down and walked over. She untied the bamboo tube tied to its leg and took out the letter. Besides the short letter from her husband, there were also the methods on how to make blood meal and locust powder.

After she read the content, Xie Ya’er’s eyes lit up. She quickly wrote a reply and gave the eagle some meat and water before she tied the bamboo tube to its leg.

Soon after it left the General’s mansion, Xie Ya’er summoned Steward Han to her study.

No one knew what they were discussing. But a few hours later, Steward Han left the General’s mansion with a group of guards and servants in a hurry.

At the same time, a messenger left the General’s mansion and rode toward De Long City on his fast horse.

Meanwhile, in Yang Village, Yang Erlang and Yang Sanlang were pulling a cart toward Yao Zhi’s house. The cart was filled with locusts.

When they arrived, the gate was not locked, so they drove the cart into the yard while calling, ”Sister Yao, are you home?”

At this moment, Yao Zhi had just finished roasting the last wok of locusts. When she heard the voice coming from the front yard, she quickly removed the firewood and extinguished the fire before she walked out.

”Who is it?”
