Chapter 102: Slander, Punishment ( 1 )

When the sun had risen until it was three-pole high, Zhou Boming and Zhou Zihong finally arrived at Yao Zhi’s house.

This time, the two of them brought a cart of empty jars with them. Along the road, the villagers noticed the unfamiliar faces, and some people with a lot of free time followed them out of curiosity.

The moment the villagers saw them knocking at Yao Zhi’s wooden gate, one of them said, ”I was thinking who these two people were. Turns out, they came looking for that shrew.”

A middle-aged woman scrutinized the Zhou father-and-son duo from head to toe as she said, ”Those two people are not simple.”

”They were not only able to own an ox cart but also wore silk. I think this Yao girl is not honest and must have an affair with one of them. Otherwise, why do they bring so many things for her?”

As soon as she finished her words, the villagers took a sharp breath. Having an extramarital affair was a crime, and the couple would be drowned in a pig cage.

Even if they did have an affair, they wouldn’t be foolish enough to let others discover it. So, out of 7 people, only 3 believed her words.

”Aunt, don’t talk nonsense. She is, after all, a military officer’s wife. It would be bad if someone reported you for spreading rumors,” a young woman said.

”She is right. Sister-in-law, you’d better be careful with your words,” another middle-aged woman reminded her.

Seeing that they didn’t believe her, the woman was annoyed.

She rolled her eyes at them and said, ”You just wait. I don’t believe they can hide their affair for a long time. When Squad Leader Fu finds out, she will be drowned in a pig cage.”

After she finished her words, the woman spat and left.

Although they didn’t believe her words, no one could be sure what they were doing behind closed doors. They exchanged glances for a moment before they quickly left.

At this moment, Yao Zhi didn’t know that someone was spreading rumors to ruin her reputation and was stirring the soy sauce in the backyard.

”Miss Yao, are you home?”

Hearing Zhou Boming’s voice, Yao Zhi put down the big ladle and wiped her hands on her apron. As she walked to the front yard, she shouted, ”Coming.”

When she opened the door, she saw Zhou Boming’s bright smile. ”Uncle Zhou, what brought you to my place today? Come in, please,” she said as she gestured for them to enter.

Since this was not his first time visiting, Zhou Boming went straight to the bench and sat down.

Seeing how familiar his father was, Zhou Zihong was taken aback. He took a glance at the young girl, and when he saw that she wasn’t offended, he heaved a sigh of relief.

Yao Zhi went to her room and returned with a pot of water and a tray of cups. After she poured a cup of water for them, she took a seat across from them and asked, ”Uncle Zhou, did something go wrong with my sauces?”

The water was hot even in the morning. Zhou Boming finished the water in several gulps before he replied, ”Miss Yao, there is nothing wrong with your sauces.”

”Then what brings you here so early?” Yao Zhi asked with doubt.

Zhou Boming grinned and took out a small pouch from his sleeves. He placed the pouch on the table and said, ”Miss Yao, here is the payment for your sauces.”

Seeing the small pouch, Yao Zhi thought that he had come after selling some of the sauces. She smiled and replied, ”Uncle Zhou, we agreed to settle the payment once a month. You can give me the money at the end of the month.”

Knowing that she had misunderstood, Zhou Boming smiled and explained, ”Miss Yao, you have misunderstood. This is the payment for all of your sauces.”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi was surprised. She took the pouch and checked the money. When she saw the banknotes, she asked, ”Uncle Zhou, you already sold all of the sauces?”

Zhou Boming nodded and said, ”Miss Yao, all of your sauces were bought by the General’s mansion. I sold the soy sauce for 2 taels of silver per jin and the fish sauce for 5 taels of silver per jin.”

”So expensive?” Yao Zhi exclaimed in disbelief.

She knew that compared to the sauces available in this era, those sauces she bought from the system’s shop were indeed more flavorful.

The price she gave was already high. She never expected Zhou Boming to raise the price higher and even manage to sell everything in just 1 day.

Seeing her disbelief, Zhou Boming chuckled and said, ”Miss Yao, yesterday, all of the sauces were sold out, and I wonder if you have any more sauces in stock.”

”I have a friend who owns a restaurant in Luo City. If we are able to have long-term cooperation with them, we won’t have to worry about not having a stable income.”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi thought for a while before she said, ”Uncle Zhou, I actually made some sauces, but they won’t be ready until next month.”

When he heard this, Zhou Boming was not disappointed.

He already earned 90 taels of silver in 1 transaction. This was more than what he could earn in 3 years. Waiting for a few more days wouldn’t make any difference as long as he could get more sauces.

With this thought, he smiled and said, ”Miss Yao, there is no rush. Keeping the quality the same as before is important. We can wait until next month.”

Yao Zhi nodded and said, ”Uncle Zhou, you can send people to pick up the sauces on the 1st day next month.”

”Alright. We also brought over the empty jars to return them to you.”

”Thank you, Uncle Zhou.”

Just after they reached this agreement, a group of people, led by the Village Chief, arrived outside the house. Seeing that the gate was open, the Village Chief entered in large strides.
