Chapter 133: Disaster Coming One After Another ( 4 )

Xue Leiting knew that these clan elders only had eyes for themselves and never cared about the commoners’ life and death, so he didn’t intend to let them interfere in this matter.

His daughter had entrusted him with this matter, and he promised her that he would ensure that this powder would benefit as many people as possible.

Raising his hand to stop their words, he said, ”I have sent people to distribute this powder to our estates. Everyone can rest assured that I will do my best to make sure that our family won’t suffer too much loss.”

After getting his promise, the elders finally felt relieved. They nodded and said, ”Since the Family Head has said so, then we will leave this matter to you.”

Since the Family Head was busy, the clan elders left after the discussion.

When he was alone, Xue Leiting wrote down several letters and called out, ”Ah Qing.”

Soon after, a young man entered the study, cupped his fists, bowed, and asked, ”Father, what’s your order?”

”Send these letters and pouches to the Magistrate as soon as possible.”

”Understood,” Xue Qing took the letters and the box before he left in large strides.

At the same time, several soldiers were leaving the military barracks. They whipped their horses and galloped at a fast speed. When they reached an intersection, they went in different directions.

Each of them carried a bag containing a leather pouch and a letter from Lu Qianxuan.

While the General and the Xue family’s head were doing their best to distribute Sha Wu Hen powder, the heavy rainfall in the southern area finally stopped.

In the last few days, the flood finally receded, and the villagers decided to return to their homes. They thought that as long as they worked harder, they would be able to rebuild their homes.

What’s more, flooded fields are usually more fertile than before. With the court distributing disaster relief, they only needed to hold on for a year, and they would be able to get a bumpy harvest.

Unexpectedly, when they walked past the riverbank, some of them noticed a barren area.

”Father, Mother, look. There are so many locusts there,” a young boy pointed in the direction of the bushes.

When the couple heard their son’s words, they turned to take a look. The moment they saw the barren area filled with swarms of locusts, their faces turned pale instantly.

”Heavens, isn’t that a locust swarm?” an old woman exclaimed in fear.

”The weather is just getting better. How can there be so many locusts now?” another villager said in disbelief.

”When we left, I didn’t see any locusts before. Where did these locusts come from?”

One after another, the villagers exclaimed in horror.

Suddenly, an old man knelt on the ground and knocked his forehead to the ground.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

”Locust God, please have mercy! Please spare us!” he shouted as the loud sound of his head knocking the ground sent chills down the villagers’ spines.

Hearing this, the villagers regained their senses and quickly knelt on the ground. They knocked their foreheads to the ground while begging the Locust God to pardon their mistakes and give them a way to live.

Soon after, the sound of their wailing and begging echoed in the area, attracting more people.

Since matters regarding the locust plague have always been tied to punishment from the Locust God, this news spread widely.

When the news reached De Long City, 5 days had passed.

At the same time, when the Duke of Zhenguo received the news, his steward came to report. ”Lord, a messenger sent by General Lu is waiting for you in the main hall.”

”Summon him to my study,” the Duke of Zhenguo said.

The steward bowed and went to carry out his order. 10 minutes later, the steward returned and said, ”Lord, the messenger is here.”

”Come in.”

Following his order, the steward opened the door, and a travel-worn soldier entered the room. He cupped his fists, bowed, and said, ”Greetings, Duke of Zhenguo.”

”Did Qianxuan have something for me?” the Duke of Zhenguo asked.

The soldier quickly opened his bag and handed over a letter and a pouch. The Duke of Zhenguo opened the letter and read it for a moment.

As soon as he finished reading the letter, he called, ”Wu Jian.”

Soon after, the steward entered the study and asked, ”Master, what’s your order?”

”Send people and distribute this powder to the nearby cities, towns, and estates. Make sure that every crop is watered with medicinal water. Also, arrange a room and a meal for him.”

”Understood.”

Without the need for detailed instruction, Wu Jian accepted the letter and the pouch. He had been following his master since he was 5 years old. After 35 years, he had reached a great tacit understanding with his master.

”This subordinate will take his leave,” the soldier bowed before following the steward.

After leaving the study room, Wu Jian ordered a maidservant to prepare a room and a hot meal for the messenger. Then, he went to arrange people to distribute the powder.

Since this matter was of importance, he didn’t dare to be reckless and handled almost everything personally.

While the Duke of Zhenguo’s mansion was busy, the Magistrate of Luo City was also not idle.

The moment he received Sha Wu Hen powder from the head of the Xue family, he quickly summoned a physician to check on the powder.

After he was sure that the powder was non-toxic, he sent people to visit the villages and distribute the powder. They were racing against time, and there was no time to waste.

Meanwhile, the messengers sent by Lu Qianxuan finally reached the western and eastern areas of the Great Yan Kingdom.

At this time, the news of a locust plague appearing in the southern area had reached them. As soon as they tested the powder, they quickly distributed it to the villagers.

Under the tense atmosphere, another 10 days passed in the blink of an eye.
