Transmigrated To Ancient Time: Thrive With An Auction System!

Chapter 45: A Risky Move

Yesterday, she was still worrying about not having enough points to buy more grains. But today, Yao Zhi felt that she was actually a little rich woman!

Although the fabric was cheaper than the paintings when auctioned, it was more valuable in this era compared to the General’s paintings. She would not mind hoarding more and keeping it just in case she would need it one day.

Since she had to keep a low profile, Yao Zhi decided to go to the General’s mansion in a few days.

After making up her mind, she went to get a bamboo basket, a shovel, and a sickle from the woodshed. After locking the doors, she went to the mountain through the backyard.

While she was on her way to the mountain, the news about a merchant from the south donating 10,000 dan of grain spread from Zhu’an town to the surrounding towns and cities. When the merchants heard this news, they were worried and anxious.

At this moment, a group of people gathered at Yuehe Lou’s private room in Luo City. Yuehe Lou was the most famous restaurant owned by the Xue family.

The location of this restaurant was at the heart of the city with high traffic. Due to its unique decoration, great service, and delicious food, most of the customers who came to dine were nobles, dignitaries, and wealthy families.

While the restaurants were full of diners and filled with a bustling atmosphere, the private room was shrouded in heavy gloom. The dishes had long turned cold as no one moved their chopsticks.

After a long silence, a middle-aged man finally said, ”What should we do now? I had emptied my family’s properties and hoarded so much grain. If the White Tiger army refuses to buy it, I will lose everything.”

Hearing this, another man replied, ”Everyone, the price of grains has reached 15 wen per jin now. I think we should open our stores and sell our stock slowly.”

After the man finished his words, a young man said, ”If we sell the grain, the General would definitely force us to donate. Is there not someone who is willing to donate? Let him donate first.”

”When the army has enough grain, we can release our stock to the market. This way, we are not only able to avoid donating our grain, but we can also earn money.”

Everyone looked at the young man and considered his suggestion.

While no one knew the young man’s identity, everyone had investigated him but found nothing. This alone proved that this young man’s background was not simple.

Adding the Jin family’s token, most of them could guess that he must be someone from the Capital. After all, Jin was the surname of the current Empress Dowager’s maternal family.

After a long silence, the merchants exchanged glances before they agreed with the young man’s suggestion.

At this moment, they had no other choice but to follow his lead. While they were enjoying their drinks and meal, Xue Ya’er was meeting the store managers in the General Mansion.

While the managers were waiting, Xue Ya’er checked the account book.

After two hours, she closed the last account book and said, ”For the next few days, send all the fabric we have in the store and workshop and send them to the General Mansion.”

The moment she said these words, the managers who handled her clothing stores and the workshops were taken aback.

”Madam, in the past months, the business has been slow, and we indeed have accumulated quite a lot of inventory. But if we send everything here, the stores won’t have any stocks for sale, and it will not only cause a huge deficit, but also tarnish our reputation,” one of the managers said.

Xue Ya’er raised her hand and said, ”Don’t worry, I have my own plan.”

She then turned to a middle-aged woman and said, ”Aunt Fu, in a few days, we might receive a lot of grain. Help me prepare the warehouse and inform the staff. After we get the grains, we will open the grain store and sell them at half the market price.”

As soon as she said this, everyone was stunned.

”Madam, the price of grain has reached 15 wen per jin this morning. If we sell at half the price, we might offend a lot of people,” Aunt Fu reminded her.

When she heard this, Xue Ya’er sneered and said coldly, ”I’m the wife of a First Rank General. Even if I offend them, I want to see what they can do to me.”

The managers exchanged glances when they noticed their master’s firm resolution.

With how high the price of grains was now, the ones suffering the most were the commoners. While the wealthy continued sucking the commoners’ blood and accumulating wealth.

Even though they had no evidence, they knew that without a powerful figure’s backing, those merchants wouldn’t dare to raise the price of grains. Now that the General’s wife planned to lower the price of grains, she would definitely offend the one behind the scenes.

Noticing their worries, Xue Ya’er smiled and said, ”Everyone, rest assured. We are standing on the same side as the mass. Even if someone wants to cause trouble for us, they have to consider if they can withstand the wrath of the people.”

After they heard this, the expressions of the managers relaxed slightly. Seeing this, Xue Ya’er smiled and said, ”Everyone, after this busy period, everyone will get an additional bonus. I hope everyone can continue to work hard.”

Getting the hints, the managers stood up, bowed at her, and replied in unison, ”We won’t let down Madam’s expectation.”

Xue Ya’er glanced at her personal maid, and soon after, Chun Hua gestured to the managers to follow her and said, ”Madam has prepared a gift for everyone. Please follow me.”

It was a common practice for Xue Ya’er to give them some snacks every time they finished their meetings. So, after thanking her, they took their leave.
