Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 975: Chapter 410: The Belated Final Battle

Han’er carried the Light of Steadfastness, swiftly navigating through the alley.

Places that used to be a short carriage ride away now seemed so distant when traversed on foot.

Years of neglecting exercise had left his body weakened; his lungs felt like they were being pricked with needles as he ran, every breath was an arduous task.

But the physical pain didn’t stop him; instead, it exhilarated him.

Pain was a testament to his continued existence.

Ever since the Soul Light Cathedral collapsed before his eyes thirty years ago, and his great revenge was fulfilled, his life lost direction.

Serving as the Archbishop of the Eternal Light Church was merely to repay Wu Chang and Erin’s favor, not because he truly sought to bring about a miracle.

Especially after the miracles ceased, as he watched the decline of the Eternal Light Church without the strength to reverse it, his life moved purely by inertia.

He thought his life would wither away like the Holy City, disappearing into a forgotten corner.

Yet tonight, he found a new purpose to act.

Though his heart and lungs were in agony, as he adjusted to the pain, his steps became increasingly light.

The diminishing pain and increasingly nimble body gave him the illusion of shedding his aging form and reclaiming his youth.

In his youth, he had once prepared for a battle that would require giving his life; he endured hardship and honed his sword for years, hoping to draw it one night and severely wound the Soul Light Sect to avenge his wife.

Unexpectedly, before he could draw his sword, the Soul Light Sect, regarded as his lifelong enemy needing life sacrifice to inflict injury, was casually crushed by Wu Chang and Erin as they passed.

Not only the Soul Light Sect, but also the moon fused with Mikhail I and the Great Sage was easily shattered by them.

Their power was too overwhelming for him to even lend a hand, relegated to being part of the atmosphere instead.

Though Han’er was grateful to Wu Chang and Erin, whenever he remembered it, he lamented the absence of a script for life, his supporting role life was so cursory it lacked a climax.

He hadn’t anticipated finally having the chance to rectify his past regrets, even with one foot already in the grave.

Already in his sixties, is it too late to start fighting for the world?

Thinking this, he couldn’t help but laugh at himself.

As Han’er approached the Spirit Medicine Cathedral, the city atmosphere grew heavy.

Apart from the faint sounds of prayers, moans and wails started to emerge.

Though Sirena’s miracle-guiding ritual was a whole, the speed of energy absorption varied between different areas.

Closer to the major center nodes, the faster and more complete the energy absorption speed.

The ritual did not absorb ordinary energy but rather the faith and life force of the believers.

The area Wick was responsible for had believers unable to sustain the supply, feeling pain from the substantial life force loss.

Even when their pain was severe enough to make them collapse and wail on the ground, they still prayed with indistinct voices, looking as if possessed.

Han’er wished to stop them, but seeing the increasingly blood-red, descending crescent moon, he had no time to pause.

He had tried to avoid praying believers, but at two thousand meters from the Spirit Medicine Cathedral, he couldn’t avoid it.

The path to the Spirit Medicine Cathedral was crowded with hundreds of visiting believers.

This was once the old site of the Levin Sect, a once illustrious sect chosen by the White Wolf as one of the ritual’s nodes.

Near the Spirit Medicine Cathedral, taking a detour would mean walking at least another three to four thousand meters.

Han’er gazed at the blood moon gradually descending and decided to cross the node.

He took a deep breath and walked towards the visiting believers.

The visiting believers occupying the path, like those around the Eternal Light Church, were all kneeling, prostrate on the ground.

However, unlike Han’er’s location, closer to the smaller node, the visiting believers’ direction of worship was towards the Spirit Medicine Cathedral.

Though their mouths still made sounds, their bodies remained motionless, like statues.

Even as Han’er passed among them, no one raised their heads to look at him or tried to stop him.

The gamble paid off; the situation was smoother than he imagined.

Halfway through, reaching the node’s center, he suddenly heard a scream from behind.

His body instantly tensed, turning to look; he saw a visiting believer clutching his chest, body shrinking visibly.

In just one or two breaths, due to severe life force loss, he turned into a dried corpse.

Han’er slightly frowned, eyes showing a hint of compassion, before turning away.

One reason he did not want the Extraordinary to return to the Mikel Kingdom was the sect’s frequent cruel sacrifices to pursue miracles.

This wasn’t because the sects in the Mikel Kingdom universally worshipped the Evil God, but rather the way to summon miracles had deviated since the first miracle.

The first miracle was born from pain, making believers and sects think only pain and death could draw the God’s attention and obtain the God’s pity.

Moreover, all subsequent miracles were linked to pain and death, reinforcing this belief.

The pursuit of pain and death naturally leads to occurrences like this.

Han’er turned and continued his journey; luckily, the noise was just from the miracle-guiding ritual, not someone trying to stop him.

Before his thoughts disappeared, he heard another sound from the location of the previous scream.
