Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 844: Chapter 366: Bright Lamp Report_2

A miner, unexpectedly delivering paper letters; there’s bound to be something unusual about it.

Thomas hesitated for a moment before continuing:

”That fellow companion told me to deliver the letter to the Bright Lamp Newspaper Office and give it to a person named Connor.”

”When I arrived at the Bright Lamp Newspaper Office with the letter, I found that everyone there showed great respect for the person named Connor, calling him Mr. Connor; perhaps he could barely be considered a big figure.”

Wu Chang turned to look at Raventon, as someone who always lived in the New World, he unapologetically didn’t know the Connor Thomas spoke of.

Raventon showed a look of surprise and said:

”If I’m not mistaken, the Connor who received Thomas’s letter should be the founder of the Bright Lamp Report, and also one of the initiators of the Charter Movement.”

”Although he’s not a noble, he was elected to the Lower House as a member; indeed, he is a big figure.”

In front of Thomas, Wu Chang and Raventon didn’t explain further, but both understood, the Communication Magic Mick used, even if the receiver on the other side wasn’t Connor, it was certainly related to Connor.

Given this, the target for the next investigation emerged.

After investigating the Pine Tree Coal Mine explosion case, Thomas no longer dared to casually inquire about the matters Wu Chang wanted to investigate, and he could only ask timidly: ℴℴ𝘮

”Mr. Sean, is there anything you need me to do?”

Wu Chang shook his head, pulling out two gold pound notes from the bet he won from Raventon yesterday, and stuffed them into Thomas’s hands.

”You don’t need to do anything extra, just stay at home during this period and take good care of your sister.”

”If someone again asks you to deliver a letter, especially a paper letter, you just need to notify me right away.”

Thomas asked, ”How should I find you?”

Wu Chang said helplessly, ”You don’t need to find me, my wife will often come here to help the nearby patients who need assistance; you just need to tell her.”

Hearing that Erin would frequently appear in the slums, Thomas instantly showed an expression of joy, even happier than receiving the two gold pounds in his hand.

After yesterday’s treatment, Erin’s status in the slums was equivalent to a Saint walking on the ground.

This fact could already be seen from the Tree of Miracles, which had grown to three meters tall this morning.

Having found the next target, Wu Chang and Raventon no longer stayed in the slums.

Before leaving, Raventon found two literate workers from the surrounding crowd and distributed a pamphlet to them.

The pamphlet described methods for preventing malaria, such as filling in sewage pits, regularly cleaning up garbage, organizing personnel to eliminate mosquitoes, and so on.

The matters weren’t complicated; Raventon wrote each solution for the problems in the pamphlet, requiring only some labor and a portion of money to accomplish.

The money was provided by Wu Chang; after all, the funds were directly disbursed from the Queen, and he didn’t feel pained spending it.

Moreover, it’s merely improving the environment and labor costs, which wouldn’t cost much.

It’s worth noting, this was in the Gray Church Slums, where there were plenty of low-level laborers willing to do anything as long as it guaranteed their meals.

People were even willing to enter the Gray Church Poorhouse, where the mortality rate reached 15%, just to avoid starvation; managing the slum’s environment with this kind of easy work that provided meals, wages, and was for their own benefit—was simply a perfect job.

As for ensuring cooperation from the slum residents in preventing disease and maintaining the environment according to the requirements, the method is extremely simple.

Just say that it’s Erin’s Will.

Bluntly speaking, the residents of Gray Church Slums, under the torture of poor living conditions and major malaria, were only a few days to early death, like Gray before being cured, poor to the point of lacking even Life, leaving only rampant faith.

Erin, who showcased miracles and pulled them back from the brink of Death, held the influence of a God in their hearts.

As long as it was Erin’s Will, it would be implemented within the slum range.

With arrangements made for managing the slum, Wu Chang and Raventon left the slums, but as soon as they left the Gray Church Slums, they saw Julie’s carriage parked by the roadside ahead.

Raventon lowered the brim of his hat as if he were truly a coachman, curling his body into the driver’s seat, whisperingly saying:

”I’ll wait here for you.”

Wu Chang smiled and said, ”Are you afraid to see her?”

”I’m not afraid,” Raventon immediately denied, then lowered his voice to say softly, ”Just that before settling with the Steam Council, I don’t want to have unnecessary conflict with her.”

Wu Chang shook his head, got off the carriage, and entered Julie’s carriage.

Upon seeing Wu Chang, Julie’s first words were, ”I’ve seen what Raventon was instructing them to do. If you continue, can you really make this place better?”

Wu Chang replied without hesitation, ”Of course, you just need to look again in a few days, and the facts will tell you the answer.”

Julie paused for a moment, the confusion in her eyes exhibited since their meeting now showed a rare smile.

”Then you all continue with your work. I won’t have anyone disrupt you. If you truly can change this place, I can give the poorhouse to you.”

Wu Chang stated, ”The residents here would thank you.”

Julie didn’t say it explicitly, but her meaning was clear—that as the Archbishop of the Holy Awakening Sect, she had tacitly approved of Erin’s missionary work in the Gray Church Slums.

If Erin could produce results, she would even be willing to give the Gray Church Poorhouse to Erin.
