Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 840: Chapter 365: The Charter Movement and the Agreement

Wu Chang browsed through the densely packed evidence on the wall, and just from the records above, he could tell how much effort Raventon had put into investigating the Steam Council back then.

Even the earliest investigation records were very detailed, and definitely not something done casually in one’s spare time.

Detectives are not police; detectives are only responsible for solving the case, not dealing with the societal impacts afterward.

A murder case involving hundreds of deaths sounds terrifying, but for a detective, the impact is not significant, especially for an extraordinary detective like Raventon.

Before Wu Chang saw Baron Philip’s resentment, Raventon only mocked the case at the Pine Tree Coal Mine with a few sarcastic remarks and treated it as a minor episode in the investigation of the Prime Minister’s assassination, without much reaction.

However, when mentioning the Steam Council, he mentioned taking action himself, ensuring that every member of the Steam Council went to hell.

It’s likely that even Julie, who acted with him at the time, wouldn’t go to such lengths.

Wu Chang turned to look at Raventon and said, ”You seem particularly wary of them.”

Raventon understood Wu Chang’s implication, sighed, and said:

”I focus on details when investigating, and all deductions are based on details and evidence, but sometimes my inspiration also alerts me.”

”As the investigation progressed, the more I discovered their purpose, the more fearful I became.”

Wu Chang became interested, poured himself a glass of wine, and asked:

”What is their purpose? Surely it can’t be to create a god.”

Raventon responded solemnly, ”You would never guess, they... uh, what did you just say?”

Wu Chang speculated, ”I said, surely they don’t want to rely on Extraordinary Industrialization to create a god.”

Raventon shook his head, ”That’s not quite it; I think your thinking is a bit too bold.”

Wu Chang smirked with some disdain in his heart.

It seems that the higher the level of the instance, the greater the ambition of the boss; not even daring to think of creating a god, no wonder this plane hasn’t even seen divinity.

Raventon noticed Wu Chang’s disdain and felt both amused and helpless.

Is Stilan too conservative, or is the outside world too crazy, that from Wu Chang’s behavior, creating a god has become the baseline for villainous organizations.

Does it mean that those Wu Chang encountered in the New World play on such a grand scale?

Initially, Raventon wanted to wait until the incident concluded before taking a trip to the New World to see if he could learn Space Magic, but now he suddenly lost the desire.

He awkwardly put down his glass and said:

”The purpose of the Steam Council, while not to create a god, is also truly insane.”

”They are willing to pay any price in pursuit of Extraordinary Power; many lost everything for it, and even half of their members died for it, yet the power they painstakingly gained is far inferior to that of us who are naturally Transcendent.”

”This made them extremely resentful towards Transcendents, determined to create an Extraordinary technology accessible to everyone, to use Extraordinary Industrialization to replace all Transcendents, so that Extraordinary Abilities could belong to ordinary people.”

Wu Chang showed a faint smile and said:

”An interesting goal, worth encouraging.”

He suddenly somewhat understood the previous Great Saint Mother’s arrogance; many of the Desolate Realm’s natives indeed had narrowed visions.

The so-called Transcendents are merely those who control Extraordinary Power. If everyone could use Extraordinary Power, then everyone would be a Transcendent.

The Realm of Reason above the Desolate Realm, even to the Abyss Third Layer, allows ordinary people to wield Extraordinary Abilities, which is a common thing.

Even further up, Abyssal Game Players like Wu Chang also gain Extraordinary Abilities through special ways, bestowing ordinary people with such abilities.

Trying to replace Transcendents by mastering Extraordinary Abilities, isn’t it just me killing myself.

But according to Raventon, the Steam Council originated from studying Alchemy and Mysticism; then it all makes sense.

No wonder those black-robed men’s Mysticism attainments were so high at the Pine Tree Coal Mine, their arrangements were difficult for a powerful Transcendent like Raventon to discern.

Raventon shook his head and continued:

”Their problem isn’t merely their hatred towards Transcendents; the members of the Steam Council are all new nobility, university professors, and scholars; they possess knowledge and resources beyond ordinary people’s reach, and inherently look down on those inferior to themselves.”

”They want ordinary people to manage Extraordinary Power, but the ordinary people here are limited to themselves.”

”For the truly ordinary public, they instead carry a creator-like arrogance, willing to easily kill hundreds of thousands for furthering their theoretical research.”

”My inspiration tells me that if these lunatics are allowed to run amok, Stilan, and even the whole world, would fall into chaos.”

Raventon’s eyes showed some avoidance as if recalling some unpleasant memory.

”Julie believes they still have value and should be taken back to interrogate their research, but I insist on eliminating these lunatics, thinking that even leaving a spark might burn everything.”

”We had quite a disagreement about this.”

Wu Chang reluctantly put down his glass; if removing naturally Transcendent people is just to monopolize Extraordinary Ability, the Steam Council would be no different from ordinary petty villains.

Besides being more obsessive and action-oriented, they might at most sit at the same table as the followers of the Peaceful Sect among the villains.

Unlike Wu Chang, Raventon doesn’t have such high expectations for villains.
