Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 820: Chapter 358: Open the Door, Freedom of Faith! (Part 2)

”Relax, I will not charge for my services in any form.”

Erin’s voice had a calming magic power, which stabilized Gray’s emotions, although she remained wary.

”Then who are you? In Stilan, no doctor treats patients for free.”

Erin paused for a moment and said, ”I am a clergy.”

Hearing this, the wariness on Gray’s face somewhat lessened. If it was a priest, that would make sense.

Before the church was converted into a poorhouse, the priests there indeed occasionally offered free treatment to the surrounding faithful, but since the Holy Awakening Sect replaced the Holy Master Church, everything changed.

”Praise the Lord, kind lady, are you a priest of the Holy Master Church?”

From Gray’s reaction, she seemed to be a devout believer of the Holy Master Church. To ease her guard, Erin intended to say yes, but Wu Chang interjected:

”No, we are from the New World, belonging to the Eternal Light Sect, which worships a deity known as the Eternal Pure Light. The relationship between the Eternal Light Sect and the Holy Master Church is like that between the Holy Awakening Sect and the Holy Master Church.”

”You can understand it as sister churches with different practices.”

Wu Chang’s voice was loud, so loud that the slum residents watching from outside could hear it.

He would not prevent Erin from helping Gray or other people in the slum, but he couldn’t accept working for free.

Stilan is a religious nation, but with the Holy Master Church forcibly replaced by the Holy Awakening Sect, customs and interests didn’t change noticeably, but the deity of worship shifted from the unknown Holy Master to the deity of the Revelation.

The Holy Awakening Sect’s forceful imitation, along with the forced shift in faith, left Stilan’s residents in a period of confusion.

At this moment, it’s a prime opportunity to take advantage. Just as the Holy Awakening Sect can imitate the Holy Master Church to forcefully become a brother church, why can’t their Eternal Light Sect do the same to become a sister church?

Since they’ve already intervened, they might as well go all the way and openly recruit followers under the banner of the Eternal Light Church.

Erin understood Wu Chang’s intent and looked back at him somewhat helplessly.

Wu Chang said, ”This is also for their benefit.”

Belief in the Holy Master Church leads to nothing; belief in the Holy Awakening Sect means the queen and prime minister will only send them to the poorhouse.

Only by believing in the Eternal Light Sect will there be someone to offer them redemption and healing.

Erin turned back to Gray and said:

”The deity has felt your despair and pain, so I’m here to lead you out of suffering.”

No blinding light or golden wings of a true divine body appeared; Erin simply held Gray’s hand, and Gray’s body rapidly began to heal.

Her distorted jaw began correcting itself, her ulcerated skin started to heal, and the eyes dimmed by malnutrition and malaria regained their luster. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

The figure that once seemed like a skeleton possessed by an evil spirit transformed within mere seconds back into the appearance of a teenage girl.

This scene cannot merely be described as a miraculous recovery.

”A miracle! It’s a miracle!”

The slum residents who witnessed this with their own eyes fell to their knees, shouting in awe.

The onlookers exclaimed at the miracle, but Gray, the one involved, felt it less vividly.

She only felt a warmth from Erin’s hand filling her body. Wherever the warmth passed, the body ravaged by phosphorus and malaria no longer felt pain.

Though she hadn’t been under the sun for several years, she remembered once basking in sunlight and felt a similar warmth.

She felt as if she were in a dream, everything becoming surreal, and when she came to, her illness had vanished.

”I, I, thank you, truly, thank the deity.” Gray clutched Erin’s hand, wanting to say more, but could not express any deeper gratitude than thanks.

Erin gently stroked the girl’s forehead and softly said:

”It’s all over now, you will get better.”

Under Erin’s comfort, the girl’s body gradually stopped trembling. After her body recovered, a clear protest sounded from her stomach.

Gurgle~

The Light Magic Erin used could cure the girl’s ailments but could not directly replenish her nutrition.

Seeing this, Wu Chang took out some silver coins and pressed them into the hand of Thomas, who was kneeling and watching.

”Why are you joining the crowd? Your sister just got better, go buy some food suitable for a patient.”

Thomas stood dazedly, looking at the coins in his hand, he said, ”Sir, I can’t...”

Wu Chang couldn’t be bothered to argue with him and simply said two words, ”Quickly go!”

Thomas: ”Oh.”

Watching Thomas squeeze through the crowd and run into the distance, Raventon said:

”Commander, your wife’s magic is simply miraculous, I couldn’t comprehend it.”

Wu Chang said, ”It’s normal that you can’t understand it.”

Raventon rolled his eyes and said, ”Remember what I said earlier? Grimland does not welcome foreign faiths, a magic as miraculous as this might bring trouble.”

Wu Chang said calmly, ”Don’t worry, I have someone above.”

He came to the Steam Phantom on Kristen’s commission to help Kristen rescue people from an S-level dungeon; surely she won’t mind even a city’s power of faith.

With Kristen around, the Holy Awakening Sect would not have any complaints.

If they truly have issues, then there’s nothing that can be done.

Under Prime Minister Ron’s leadership, Stilan has been an advocate of free trade from top to bottom, so there’s no reason to be so closed-minded regarding faith.

If the Holy Awakening Sect isn’t willing to share faith, then he wouldn’t mind having Erin display the true divine body of God, using the Light of Steadfastness to smash through Grimland’s closed doors.

Open the doors, faith is free!

Raventon’s voice was soft, but Erin heard it clearly.
