Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 235: Chapter 166: Off Course

”I remember.” Wu Chang nodded.

With a name like yours, I can’t just forget you.

Seeing that Wu Chang remembered him, Park Changmin’s smile grew even more ingratiating.

”In recent years, Director Li, you have been busy taking over the Star Heaven Group and have had no chance to invite you to visit our New Cosmos Sect. The Sect Leader has always deeply regretted this.”

Park Changmin paused and said, ”It just so happens that our Sect is having its annual group event, a banquet on this ship. Director Li, would you grace us with your presence and take a look?”

Wu Chang scrutinized Park Changmin and couldn’t help but think how thick-skinned these people were.

Was it that the transformed Li Zaisi didn’t have time to visit? He simply had no interest!

In the original owner’s memories, he always thought that the bizarre religions rampant in Gao Mu Country were essentially deceptions for the ignorant masses.

These religions exploit the anxiety and fear of these people, who are increasingly marginalized by society, and then create a false sense of security and belonging to plunder their meager income and savings.

Li Zaisi always looked down on people like Park Changmin, who prey on the poorest people struggling for basic needs. How is that any skill?

The Star Heaven Group focused on exploiting those with spending power, like the middle class and young people.

Were it not for the votes, public reputation, and money-laundering channels held by the New Cosmos Sect, Li Zaisi wouldn’t even bother to look their way.

If it were the old Li Zaisi, he would most likely not oblige them, but now that Wu Chang is the one inside, he of course wants to take this opportunity to probe into the New Cosmos Sect.

”Sure, I’ve actually always wanted to take a look at your sect too. Is it now?”

Wu Chang’s initiative took Park Changmin by surprise, as he was prepared to plead after being refused, yet the other party was more proactive than he expected.

”If it is convenient for you, now would be perfect.”

The place where the New Cosmos Sect followers lived was on the fourth level of the Star Jump. The group’s activities were rewarding outstanding followers, allowing potential new followers to experience the church atmosphere. Over three hundred people brought their families along.

For this, the New Cosmos Sect had reserved the left half of the fourth level of the liner.

When Wu Chang arrived, the entire left half had been set up in a religious atmosphere, with the New Cosmos Sect symbol visible everywhere.

The massive self-serve restaurant on the left half had been temporarily transformed into a gigantic chapel.

The teppanyaki grill, where chefs once showcased their skills to diners, had turned into the Holy Table for the Priest’s prayers. The luxurious chairs were removed, replaced by simple long tables and attached benches.

An unsuspecting tourist who walked in half-asleep would definitely think this was a church giving out free lunches.

However, the restaurant’s ingredients and chefs were retained instead of switching them to the free food the New Cosmos Sect usually distributed.

After all, the cost of the meals was already included in the ticket. Even someone exploited by the church wouldn’t stupidly eat what’s tough and tasteless.

Passing through the chapel-style restaurant, Wu Chang followed Park Changmin to the deck, where the New Universe Church Priest was leading the followers in prayer.

The praying followers wore smiles on their faces, exuding a satisfaction and happiness from deep within.

Judging by the scene alone, one would not immediately connect the New Cosmos Sect to the Peaceful Sect.

But Wu Chang couldn’t feel a shred of peace from the scene because he could see with the naked eye that every follower present had seeds of mysticism planted within them.

For every segment of their prayers, a patch of their skin would crack, tremble, and writhe, finally tearing open to reveal an additional eye.

Each follower in the scene had five extra eyes compared to a normal person, and as Wu Chang stepped onto the deck, thousands of eyes were already fixed on him.

Such intensely dense gazes would instantly send a socially anxious person into withdrawal.

Park Changmin turned to look at Wu Chang, like a child proud of having aced their final exam, ”Director Li, what do you think of our prayer gathering?”

Maintaining his aloof, dominant persona, Wu Chang matched the gaze of thousands of eyes without changing his expression, then nodded and said:

”Not bad, quite atmospheric.”

Park Changmin said devoutly, ”Such a peaceful atmosphere comes from the greatness and majesty of the Lord. Under the Lord’s shelter, we needn’t worry about earthly suffering. Naturally, we can pray calmly and contently.”

Wu Chang seemed to agree with Park Changmin’s words. According to the Revelation standards, the seeds within the followers were already mature, the soil practically buried up to their hairlines, so there was truly no need to worry about worldly concerns.

After flaunting this, Park Changmin gestured a polite indication, inviting Wu Chang to rest in the meeting room on the fifth floor.

In the fifth-floor meeting room, after Park Changmin served everyone coffee, he said:

”Director Li, as you have seen, our activities in the New Universe Church, religious gatherings, inevitably create some noise when expressing admiration for the Lord. If we have disturbed you, we hope for your understanding.”

Seated on the sofa, Wu Chang gazed at the praying followers below through the French windows, playing with the Secret Technique Trial Badge in his hand.

Even though the New Cosmos Sect had yet to make a move, just the prelude prayers were enough for Wu Chang to feel the influx of mysticism pollution surging into his body like an onrushing tide.

As with the reincarnation tasks, the mysticism pollution started from the head, beginning with the eyes.
