Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 207: Chapter 156: Mysticism Contamination

Wu Chang nodded.

Zhao Yan: ”There are some things I didn’t write down in the files. When we initially infiltrated Night Song to investigate, we went in seven nights in total and found no issues.”

”The guy who investigated with me, code-named Monkey, was as sharp as they come, smart. Half a year after the Night Song incident, he suddenly called me one night, saying he had just come out of a dungeon. For some reason, his Inspiration skyrocketed, and with that Inspiration, he discovered something was wrong with our past investigation.”

”What was the issue?” Wu Chang pressed on.

”He said that, relying on Inspiration, he recalled many details from his memory. The memory of the seventh night was largely pieced together from fragments of the previous six nights, meaning there was a chunk missing from his memory of the seventh night.”

Zhao Yan extinguished the cigarette butt in his hand, lit a new one, and continued:

”I don’t have his kind of memory, nor any skyrocketing Inspiration. I can’t even remember something was missing from my memory, let alone what happened during those seven days.”

”So I told Monkey to go to Director Gao and have his memory checked.”

As he reached the most crucial part, Zhao Yan took a drag of his cigarette. Wu Chang clicked his tongue anxiously and asked, ”And then?”

Zhao Yan shook his head and said, ”Then Monkey died, from Inspiration Runaway, Will collapse, right during the phone call with me.”

”The Management Bureau did nothing afterwards?” Wu Chang frowned, incredulous that the Management Bureau would remain indifferent after a member’s death.

”What action would they take?” Zhao Yan countered.

”Monkey died from Will collapse, caused by excessive stimulation in the dungeon, leading to Inspiration Runaway. He died at home alone; there were no signs of anyone entering or any Skills affecting him.”

”And you know that during Inspiration Runaway, a person can hallucinate, so anything said during that time can’t be used as evidence.”

Zhao Yan sighed and said, ”You can’t just say someone planted a bomb in Monkey’s head that would explode as soon as he remembered something, causing an Inspiration Runaway.”

Wu Chang squinted his eyes. You don’t say, it’s actually possible.

The person who hired Lei Hu could sign a contract with him, and if Lei Hu wanted to leak secrets, the hidden Power in the contract would explode.

If the one targeting Monkey were a master of Mysticism, and their Player Level far exceeded Monkey’s, it’s possible they could pull off such a feat.

”No issues found in the checks, but you don’t believe it?”

Zhao Yan nodded, ”Monkey had a good memory, with a lot of important things in his head. Even if there were hallucinations due to Inspiration Runaway, it wouldn’t just so happen to be about Night Song.”

”Many don’t believe it. We’ve infiltrated Night Song many times afterward, but the other side is very cautious, and nothing was found. The Big Sister even put Tang Renquan in a sack and dragged him into the Countermeasures Bureau to test him directly with a lie detector, but it yielded no results.”

”Because of this, the Big Sister got a demerit. If not for her strong background, if it were me, I would probably have gotten a major demerit and ended up as a doorman at the Fighting Club.”

Upon hearing this, Wu Chang shook his head, thinking to himself that Meng Yawen is really bold for daring to take someone like Tang Renquan and kidnap him directly. If Fang Hui ever gets on Meng Yawen’s bad side, he’ll be in for a world of trouble later.

But he didn’t dislike this approach; it showed loyalty, and he liked that.

They were Players, not police; they didn’t need to gather all sorts of evidence before taking action.

Originally, he only wanted to sneak into Night Song Bar to complete an anchoring, not meddle in other affairs. But when he joined the Management Bureau, he owed Meng Yawen a favor, and since Tang Renquan caused Meng Yawen to get a demerit, he felt he had to settle this score properly.
