Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 205: Chapter 156: Mysticism Contamination

As Wu Chang confirmed his reincarnation as a Secret Magic Knight, the ”Secret Magic Knight Order Newcomer’s Guide” in his hand moved automatically without wind. The pages flipped rapidly, and the history and knowledge belonging to the Secret Magic Knight poured into his mind.

The Secret Magic Knight is a profession that lies between a Wizard and a Knight, and its appearance originated from a coincidence.

In the Moonlight Sanatorium plane, the long-standing task of resisting the minions of the Evil God was handled by the priests of the Church and the freedom-loving Wizards.

High inspiration and expertise in mysticism allowed both the priests and the Wizards to resist the temptations from the Evil God, as well as curses and spells from the demons under the Evil God.

The knights under the Kingdom and Church mainly played the role of bodyguards, protecting the priests and Wizards from attacks by monsters and the Evil God’s followers.

After all, researching mysticism is an energy-consuming endeavor, requiring long hours of reading books, studying history, and experimenting with various rituals, leaving no time for physical exercise.

If one didn’t develop problems with cervical or lumbar vertebrae and didn’t suffer from malnutrition and osteoporosis due to diet and schedule, they were considered distinguished among priests and Wizards. Combatting monsters was unduly challenging for them.

However, even with the protection of knights, being a priest or Wizard was still a high-risk profession, with most not living past 40 years, and the deeper their study of mysticism, the shorter their lives became.

After long-term research, scholars of the Kingdom discovered that the mystical energy within the priests and Wizards would pollute them, and during battles against the Evil God, the Evil God’s evil thoughts also corrupted their bodies.

Only a strong constitution could resist the pollution of mysticism and withstand the corrosion of the Evil God.

While promoting swimming and fitness to young priests, the Kingdom also turned its attention to the Kingdom’s Knight Order.

Medical professionals dissected deceased priests and found that the stronger the priest, the deeper their bodies were polluted by mysticism, and the higher their rate and efficiency in absorbing energy.

While mysticism pollution was poisonous doom to priests and Wizards, would it be different if applied to knights?

After repeated experiments, the Secret Magic Knights, who could use mysticism pollution as a spring of power, naturally emerged.

Though the Secret Magic Knight lacked in mystical theory, the flow of mystical energy within their bodies became a part of them, surpassing traditional priests and Wizards in practical energy application.

With powerful combat ability, Secret Magic Knights quickly became the main force against the Evil God and succeeded in slaying the Evil God’s clone descended on reality under the leadership of Captain Anderson.

However, after the Evil God’s clone was slain, the Secret Magic Knight Order subsequently declined. Powerful yet short-lived priests and Wizards, and robust knights unable to utilize energy, returned to being the mainstream.

To this day, the profession of Secret Magic Knight has completely vanished, along with the method of reincarnation, buried in history.

Ding!

Having witnessed the rise and fall of the Secret Magic Knight, Wu Chang heard a notification sound by his ear.

”You have found the hidden method for training Secret Magic Knights and successfully unlocked the reincarnation task.” ℴ

”Task Description: To resist mysticism pollution, not only is a strong body required, but also a firm belief. You need to find enough anchor points in the real world to ensure you don’t get lost in mysticism pollution.”

”Reincarnation Task One: In the real world, locate at least three areas polluted by mysticism and set up anchor points for the real world.”

”Upon completing Reincarnation Task One, the next stage of the reincarnation task will be unlocked.”

Before beginning the profession reincarnation, Wu Chang had done some research, revealing that only lower-level white, blue, and green reincarnations could use items for direct reincarnation.

Certain rare green reincarnations, and higher-level red and gold reincarnations, involved reincarnation tasks.

The more reincarnation tasks there were, the higher the strength of the profession was proven to be, just like the Sword Star reincarnation of the Sword Sect, which had three reincarnation tasks.

The advanced reincarnation of the Sword Sect, the Sword Cultivator, required multiple instances to be completed in its last stage.

From the current situation, the reincarnation task of the Secret Magic Knight has at least two stages. If it reaches three stages, the strength of the Secret Magic Knight would rank among the upper echelons of hidden professions.

Wu Chang cast aside distracting thoughts and refocused on Reincarnation Task One.

When he opened the reincarnation task, he saw the history of the Secret Magic Knights, who, during training, had used the flag of the Secret Magic Knight Order and the King’s Badge as anchoring items.

By swearing to these two items, they expressed loyalty to the Knight Order and the royal family.

If Wu Chang had brought the King’s Badge or the Secret Magic Badge out of the instance, Reincarnation Task One would have been very simple; without these two items, it would be more troublesome to complete.

To make mysticism pollution materialize, a master of mysticism, at least a quasi-master, must be involved, setting up mysticism-related arrays to gather large amounts of energy to such an extent.

The task completion is confined to the real world. However, finding a master of mysticism in the real world is not easy.

The Management Bureau might have one, and Shi Ning, whom he knows, might be one. But he cannot seek help, as his actions cannot escape the eyes of a master of mysticism.

Fortunately, the reincarnation task considered this aspect. After receiving the task, he had an item resembling a compass in his hand.

”Item Name: Mystical Detector”

”Item Type: Timed Item”

”Item Description: Detects areas surrounding mysticism pollution and guides the user to those areas. Usage interval: 15 days. The Mystical Detector will be destroyed in 46 days.”
