The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 2282: Chapter 2282: Funeral Procession (28)

As for the issue of Qi Jingyun being concerned about his wife, let’s sort it out with him once we’ve rescued him.

But how to rescue him is quite a thorny problem. Even more tricky is that Gu Qingheng doesn’t know what the situation is with that guy in the enemy camp right now. Therefore, what is urgently needed is to investigate the opponent’s situation clearly.

After pacing back and forth twice in the room, Gu Qingheng started writing a letter at the table. Seeing that it was still quite dark, he took a brief nap. When daylight broke, he called Xiaohei in: ”Take this to Xinxin, quickly go and return.”

Xiaohei then swaggered out of the room and swiftly shot up into the sky.

A soldier galloped over on horseback, leaped off near them: ”Report, General, General Zhou’s troops have arrived about ten miles away.”

Due to heavy losses on this side, Emperor Xuan dispatched Gu Qingheng over here while also ordering the Crown Prince to send reinforcements. However, as Beijing is far from here, he ordered Duke An from the west to send initial reinforcements.

Duke An dispatched Zhou Jiang with fifty thousand men to advance first.

”Let’s go, I will personally greet them,” said Gu Qingheng, striding outward.

Meanwhile, in Dapu East Village, most were up before dawn, especially at the Yang Family’s old residence. Smoke rose from the kitchen, and after quickly having breakfast, they would begin the funeral procession.

Most people in the village who came to help had arrived. They had also invited a neighbor village’s band specializing in funeral music.

Six young men from the village had white cloth wrapped around their waists and brought poles to carry the coffin into the yard.

Prior to crossing over, Yang Ruxin had never witnessed a funeral procession, as city dwellers usually sent their deceased to funeral homes, then to cemeteries with flowers for worship. This rural, grand white funeral was truly her first experience.

Yang Peili led a group from the Yang Family, all dressed in mourning clothes. Yang Baichuan, Yang Rusong, and a few other men were in deep mourning, their whole bodies wrapped in white cloth, only their faces visible.

However, since Yang Ruxin’s branch had severed its ties, they didn’t need deep mourning. So, everyone wore mourning caps and had white cloth wrapped around their waists.

An offering table was set up in the yard, with fruits and snacks placed upon it, and a black clay pot set atop the table. After Yang Peili led everyone in bowing before the offering table, Yang Rusong picked up the clay pot and forcefully threw it in the yard, shattering it.

Then the sound of suona horns instantly rang out, and everyone began to cry loudly and mournfully.

After the crying was more or less finished, someone among those helping shouted ”Let’s go.” The crying stopped, someone ahead of them beat a gong as they exited the main gate, followed closely by the horn and suona players. Yang Baichuan carried a basket of paper coins, scattering them in the air as he walked. Beside him, Yang Rusong held a white paper fan, meant to guide the deceased, followed by the coffin.

People from the Yang Family’s old residence were walking and crying, one hand supporting the coffin as it got carried out — this tradition is called ”holding the coffin.”

The sound of the suona horns led the way out of the village, during which villagers with certain ties would come and tuck strips of yellow paper money onto the coffin, as a gesture of farewell to the deceased.

However, until Yang Anshi’s coffin left the village, not a single family tucked any paper money on it, which showed how poor a reputation that person had.

Yang Ruxin also walked with the funeral procession, not shedding a single tear. On the contrary, she watched everything with great interest. It wasn’t that she was cold-blooded, but Yang Anshi really hadn’t left her with any good impression.
