The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 2264: Chapter 2264: Hearing the Case (10)

”Good!” Lin Lang clapped his hands, ”Let’s do as madam said.”

Soon enough, Government Officials were parading the streets, beating gongs and drums to spread the news.

Two hours later, within the grand hall of the Baimu County Governor’s Office, there was a mighty and unyielding atmosphere. Dai Zhigao had already been stripped of his official hat, kneeling on the hall floor, all his former arrogance gone. Beside him lay the already dead Chen Mingzhu and the barely alive Chen Dongliang.

As it was a public trial, the common people had already gathered in a circle.

Lin Lang was the Governor, a figure not typically seen by ordinary folk, and one ranked much higher than the County Magistrate. Such a direct trial of a local official was indeed rare. Though it was said grievances could be aired, no one dared to come forward, fearing it might be mere formality, and the commoners would be the ones to suffer. So, everyone watched with anticipation.

The first to testify was the coroner, confirming that Chen Mingzhu indeed died from head trauma and brain damage, and that Chen Dongliang was indeed poisoned, yet there was no remedy.

Later, several doctors were brought in, but they were also helpless.

”Madam, what do you think...” Lin Lang looked at Yang Ruxin, knowing she was renowned as the Divine Doctor. Once she intervened, survival seemed assured.

Yang Ruxin nodded, stepped forward, and administered a medicine pill to Chen Dongliang.

Before long, Chen Dongliang finally coughed, then opened his eyes and turned his head. The sight before him left him bewildered, unsure of how to react, wanting to rise but finding himself without strength.

Yang Ruxin smiled, realizing how unfortunate it would be for him to miss such a splendid trial. She then gestured for a recliner to be brought over, easing the process of questioning.

Chen Dongliang was filled with fear.

Yang Ruxin glanced at everyone, then directly approached the bench, narrating the events orally, without needing a complaint document. She accused Chen Dongliang of forcibly taking women and committing heinous crimes, and Dai Zhigao of neglecting his duties...

Lin Lang asked Chen Dongliang if all this was true.

Chen Dongliang wanted to deny it, but meeting the half-smiling gaze of Yang Ruxin, he eventually nodded.

Dai Zhigao tried to defend himself, claiming his wife’s family acted behind his back, and he was unaware.

Chen Dongliang stretched his neck, asserting that he had his brother-in-law’s permission to act.

The result was an argument between the two.

”Enough!” Lin Lang struck the Court Hammer, ”Right and wrong will be investigated by this court, now we will try the murder case.”

Madam Hong not only accused Dai Zhigao of murder but also presented evidence of his shady dealings with some banks and businesses.

Madam Hong initially did not want to do this, but Chen Mingzhu, before her death, had declared that since her adversary would not let her live in peace, she too would ensure their ruin. Thus, she could only fulfill the madam’s last wish.

Dai Zhigao felt all his strength leave him, realizing that wretched woman would not let him go even in death.

At this moment, Dai Xiyan and her brother Dai Haoran suddenly rushed in, collapsing beside the Chen Family.

”Mother, what’s wrong?” Dai Haoran clutched at the Chen Family member, shaking her, ”Wake up.” The eleven-year-old boy couldn’t believe his mother was truly gone.

Madam Hong hurriedly pulled Dai Haoran to her side, comforting him not to cry.

But even as Dai Xiyan cried, she only glanced at her mother before turning her gaze to her father.

Dai Zhigao hung his head in despair, fully aware that he might not survive this.

”Your Honor, my father and mother were very close. How could he kill? There must be some misunderstanding.” Dai Xiyan was no fool, quickly assessing the situation, ”I beg your Honor to investigate thoroughly.”

”Who are you in the court?”

”Dai Xiyan, daughter of Dai Zhigao and the Chen Family,” Dai Xiyan quickly kowtowed.

Hearing his daughter, Dai Zhigao’s eyes momentarily lit up, considering the possibility of avoiding death due to a misunderstanding.

Yang Ruxin observed Dai Xiyan, unable to help but lament inwardly. This girl was certainly intelligent, but her nature was too cold, one who could be termed a white-eyed wolf.

”You claim there’s a misunderstanding? What kind of misunderstanding?” Lin Lang glanced at Yang Ruxin before continuing to question Dai Xiyan.

”My maternal uncle is a debauchee, many things he did without my father’s knowledge.” Dai Xiyan stated without a hint of emotion, ”My father knew nothing of his actions.”

”Then how are you aware?”

”As the eldest daughter, with my younger brother still a child, my mother confided many things in me, including lending Token Money and accepting kickbacks from several banks and businesses for my dowry...”

”Yes.” Dai Zhigao quickly nodded, ”It was all the Chen Family’s doing; I was completely unaware.” He then bowed low to the ground, ”But I am guilty of negligence and poor management.”

Madam Hong looked at Dai Xiyan in disbelief. How could the young lady say such things, throwing all the dirt on her own mother?

”My father and mother had argued several times, this time there might have been an accident amid their argument...” Dai Xiyan said, turning to glare at Madam Hong, ”It could be this vile servant committing murder and planting evidence.”

”Young lady, you...” Madam Hong widened her eyes in shock, but soon came to terms with it. If Dai Xiyan could abandon her mother, why not a mere servant?

”Yes, it was this vile servant who committed the murder...” Dai Zhigao eagerly echoed her.

Yang Ruxin chuckled, acknowledging Dai Xiyan’s ruthlessness.

Lin Lang called the servants over for questioning. The eventual conclusion was that Madam Chen’s death was unrelated to Madam Hong, but it remained inconclusive whether Dai Zhigao was the murderer, as Dai Xiyan suggested she might have simply fallen.

The case took a turn, but the impact on the outcome was minimal. At most, Dai Zhigao would be spared from death, though being left with nothing wasn’t much better.

The case became clearer, leading to the next steps of reviewing evidence—like notifying the Chen Family, arresting Ba Santong, and summoning the implicated banks and businesses.

”I want to file a complaint...” Amidst the busy proceedings, several people suddenly arrived outside, crying out to accuse Chen Dongliang.

It turned out Chen Dongliang had long intimidated men and bullied women, with two girls from different families even driven to death. But given his local power, the bereaved, mere farmers, had no recourse, losing their daughters for only ten taels of Silver. Now, learning that the Governor was personally handling the case, they came with tentative hope, only to find it was real, encouraging them to step forward.

Yang Ruxin breathed a sigh of relief. As long as someone sought justice, her efforts wouldn’t be in vain. After all, without being a victim herself, her accusations held little weight, but true victims would make conviction much simpler.
