The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 1340: Chapter 1340: People of the Xia Family (6)

Yang Ruxin then saw the people from the Xia Family that Ling Family had introduced to her.

Over the years, the Xia Family had been living in a separate three-section residence behind the Dong Residence, which was also a property of the Dong Family. They were served by more than a dozen servants, and not only did they not have to pay rent, but even the servants’ wages were provided by the Dong Family.

Xia Xiangshi brought her whole family with her.

That Xia Xiangshi was well-preserved, not looking like someone in her sixties at all. She spoke with vigor, and upon arrival, she immediately grabbed Dong Wenxiu’s hand, ”Xiuxiu, you’ve finally returned. My sister can finally rest in peace...”

Dong Wenxiu appeared somewhat uneasy, because having been in the hands of human traffickers, she actually resented intimate contact with strangers, instinctively repelling it. However, this was her aunt, and she couldn’t exactly push her away.

Fortunately, Dong Wenming timely stood up and helped Xia Xiangshi to take a seat, ”Aunt, my father and Wenxiu have both barely stopped crying, please don’t upset them. Today is a joyful occasion, crying too much can be harmful to your health...”

Dong Wenxiu visibly breathed a sigh of relief.

Xia Xiangshi quickly wiped away her tears, ”Right, we need to be happy...”

Xia Chengguang, Xia Chengming, and Xia Zi came over to recognize Wenxiu, all calling her ’cousin aunt’.

After the greeting was over, Xia Wenzheng, accompanied by his two sons, came to see Dong Wenxiu and Yang Ruxin, then went to an adjacent table, leaving Xia Xiangshi with her daughter-in-law from the Ji Family, her eldest grandson’s wife from the Ma Family, and her daughter, Xia Zi.

”Ruxin sister, this old lady is so stingy.” Yu Qingge whispered, ”She didn’t even bring a gift.”

Yang Ruxin gave her a look, even if it’s stingy to say it out loud, well, they didn’t give a gift, and neither did her mother, so it was even.

In fact, Yang Ruxin did have gifts here, but if the other party didn’t give any, she couldn’t be bothered to offer them. After all, they were the ones living off the Dong Family, not the ones fawning over the Xia Family.

Dinner was especially lavish. The Dong Family’s chefs were quite impressive, presenting a full array of typical Huaiyang cuisine dishes, like lion’s head meatballs and dry shredded mandarin fish, not only pleasing to the eye but also tasty—and of course, there were various pastries as well.

As a married woman, Xia Zi, whose husband and son had died only a few months before, should not have attended such an occasion, but the Xia Family explained that to foster closeness among the family, they would overlook this matter. At the dinner table, Xia Zi was especially eager to get close to Yang Ruxin and Yu Qingge, also subtly inquiring about various matters concerning the Yang Family.

Yang Ruxin couldn’t be bothered with her, but Yu Qingge seemed to enjoy chatting with her quite a bit. However, upon careful listening to the content of their conversation, nothing was leaked unintentionally—everything that should be said was said, and nothing that shouldn’t be mentioned was revealed. She inwardly commended the young girl, her intelligence really was unmatched.

Xia Wenzheng’s daughter-in-law from the Ji Family was a very shrewd woman who was also eloquent. With her there, the table was filled with continuous laughter, while her eldest grandson’s wife from the Ma Family spoke very little, appearing somewhat unsophisticated.

After three rounds of drinks, Xia Chengguang, who was said to have already become a Scholar, proactively came over to offer tea to Dong Wenxiu and also paid his respects to Yang Ruxin. He himself looked quite refined, which made him seem quite harmless.

However, Yang Ruxin never judged people by their appearances. Although at the banquet the Xia Family seemed to be very polite and respectful, a closer investigation would reveal that it seemed like the Xia Family was making decisions on behalf of the Dong Family. So, it seemed necessary to give Uncle Light a heads up.
