Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 340: Marching into the Underground City

”Still can’t get through?”

I asked the staff members who were still using the equipment at the research base to make contact.

The base leaders at the side were also stomping their feet in anxiety.

”I’m afraid so. Those Nightmare Demons might be lurking somewhere and have completely destroyed our connection with the surface.”

”I see...”

I nodded, roughly understanding.

”Then what about other contact methods? Go and try them quickly!”

”Sorry, this is our main contact line with the surface. If it’s wireless, not to mention the rock strata separating our underground city from the surface, the Earth Vein energy interference caused by the external energy tide would also greatly disrupt the signal,” the personnel in charge of the professional equipment patiently explained.

In short, apart from the initial distress signal sent out, the specific details of the situation encountered by the underground city could not be transmitted upwards.

So they could only use the most primitive method, which was to use the main road elevator connecting the surface and the underground city to send people up.

They had even begun to plan to send the most important scholars, technicians, and senior management of the base to the surface first to ensure their safety.

But at this moment, they didn’t know much about the situation on the surface either.

If the situation on the surface was still in turmoil, then this was no different from sending a delivery.

So they were also in a dilemma.

And this main road elevator was not something that could be used at will.

Every time it was used, it needed to be inspected and so on.

You know, the depth of the underground city from the surface was a very long up and down journey.

The middle section of the elevator track couldn’t even be cleaned by anyone.

It all relied on the various inscriptions engraved on this elevator when it was first built, such as anti-corrosion, anti-rust, hardening, shape memory, and so on.

So, unless necessary, the passage here was generally not used as frequently as a civilian elevator.

At least, this was the self-awareness that the people of the underground city, who knew the technical difficulties, should have.

But this didn’t mean that Ninglan New City on the surface would care.

But the underground city had also tacitly allowed people from the surface to come down from time to time.

After all, there was also the saying that extraordinary machinery was always new.

Machinery that was not used for a long time would also have problems.

And... even if there was an accident, it would be the people from the surface who were trapped.

”I’m sorry, Scholar Little Han, for letting you see our underground city in such a sorry state.”

”What are you apologizing to me for? You should be responsible for your own safety. Also... this is the information pried from the mouths of those Nightmare Demons. But... I suggest you’d better not look at it now. It’s better to discuss it in your senior management meeting. Don’t you all like to have meetings?”

”Yes, you’re right,” the person in charge of liaising with me also quickly nodded and said.

He took the paper documents in his hand, and he had no desire to open them now.

As for my complaining that they liked to have meetings, this was indeed a fact.

After all, many things were difficult to solve by one person alone if there was no meeting.

As for me, although I had said before that I would wait and see about Ninglan Qiuyu’s actions and would not interfere to make a choice, this did not mean that I would go back on my word about sharing the intelligence I had obtained from the interrogation.

There were some things that the underground city had a right to know.

If Ninglan Qiuyu wanted to unify the surface and the underground, then the other party would become an unchecked autocrat.

I didn’t believe that under that guy’s interference, the scholars of the extraordinary research base could study extraordinary projects as they were now.

Actually, this was also my selfish intention.

I really liked the academic atmosphere here.

Sometimes, when people do things, they can’t just look at the objective facts.

My own thoughts are also very important.

For example... I hope that the student academic atmosphere here can continue.

And the most crucial thing is naturally that the senior management of these bases can’t have another Ninglan Qiuyu on top of them.

And the senior management of the underground city also understood what Ninglan Qiuyu’s actions represented.

Even if they knew the truth, they still needed to consider their interests in the end.

After all, the underground city could not survive independently from the surface.

They needed a continuous supply of provisions and materials.

As long as their interests were the same or complementary, they wouldn’t care how despicable the other party’s means were.

At most, it would become a bargaining chip for the underground city to negotiate with that new City Lord.

And when Ninglan Qiuyu became the City Lord, even if this information spread to the surface, he had plenty of ways to turn this information into rumors and slander.

Watching this person in charge prepare to leave, I also followed him directly.

If they were going to have a meeting, I would just go and listen.

I didn’t think they would have the courage to refuse me listening from the side.

Otherwise, if those guys did something foolish, I could also stop the loss in time.

But most of the time, I would remain silent.

After all, I was not good at talking.

After all, even the senior management of the base had an information gap with the bottom level.

And the decisions they made were mostly based on their own interests.

Even if it was a matter of the sky falling, as long as there was still time for a meeting, those people would fight for the last bit of interest for themselves in the meeting.

This was an eternal characteristic of people.

A truly selfless person would not be able to reach a high position.

Even if they could, don’t forget that people can change.

My arrival could at least make these guys restrain themselves a little.

By the way... and directly communicate with them about the interpretation of the intelligence obtained from the Nightmare Demons.

If there were any mistakes in the paper report, I could also correct them.

...

”Alright, Ninglan Qiuyue, now is not the time to be sad. The more this kind of situation, the more we need to remain calm,” Tan Han was comforting Ninglan Qiuyue at the side at this moment.

Not only Tan Han, but the leaders of the other transcendent academies had also gathered here.

They had also roughly understood some of the situation before.

Similarly, they were also very curious about the so-called underground city.

And they also hoped that this turmoil would calm down soon, otherwise, it would be a long time before they could go back.

Many people also came to comfort her at this moment.

After all, they were just peers.

They could more or less empathize with the pressure the other party was under, and even felt a hint of relief.

At this moment, Ninglan Qiuyue knew very well in her heart that the reason these outsiders were helping them was because they were on the same boat at this moment and had the same interests.

But it didn’t mean that these outsiders were willing to be driven by them without any scruples, including this time, she also needed the help of these outsiders.

As long as she appropriately guided the compassion of these outsiders, they would voluntarily contribute for her.

Ninglan Qiuyue could see that the world the outsiders lived in was a peaceful one.

From the eyes of those people, she saw the naivety of a novice that many people inadvertently revealed.

But she also understood that she could not appear too weak, which would only be counterproductive.

After all, there were also many smart people among the outsiders.

”I understand... thank you all for being willing to contribute for our Ninglan New City...”

”It’s nothing, we’re just getting what we need. After all, our consciousness has been trapped here for too long. We don’t know what the academy outside is like now.”

”Speaking of which, we have indeed been trapped here for a long time. I hope the academy hasn’t given up on us...”

At this moment, they were also reminded of their own situation by this sentence and began to worry.

But everyone who could be here was an elite from their respective transcendent academies.

Those without strength had long been settled down to prevent them from dragging others down.

Before long, they had adjusted their mentality.

After all, this kind of thing couldn’t be rushed.

It was better to pay more attention to the current situation.

When the city guards were already ready, the transcendent academies were also mostly prepared.

Then, they came to the huge elevator that led to the underground city.

This area was usually heavily guarded by the city guards in the past.

It was like a military restricted area, but it was not wrong to describe it that way.

The extraordinary research base below was the largest base for the research and development and innovation of extraordinary skills, and also the largest production site for extraordinary arms.

It was precisely because a large amount of materials needed to be transported back and forth here from time to time that this elevator was mostly used for transporting materials.

So there was no need to worry about the size.

The elevator was even designed in layers, and could be raised and lowered on multiple levels at once.

In order to build such a huge project, this elevator was also a very large architectural landmark on the surface of Ninglan New City.

It’s just that most people in Ninglan New City didn’t know what it was, and over time they got used to it.

As the huge and layered elevator platform was activated, the sound of the collision of the huge machinery immediately made the people here feel a sense of novelty, even if this sound was not pleasant, and was even considered noise.

”Sorry, because the size of the elevator platform is limited, and the situation in the underground city is unknown, the number of support personnel may need to be a lot. This will require you outsiders to be temporarily interspersed with the city guards...”

Although this was expected, among the outsiders, there were also many people who didn’t like to have their bodies penetrated by real people, even if they were in the dream and the other party was in reality, theoretically there was no contact.

But if you put yourself in their shoes, ordinary people also don’t like to have people overlapping their bodies and standing together, right?

Especially many girls were very concerned about this point.

It was fine to play around a little usually and feel the novelty, but it was indeed a bit awkward to maintain this situation for a long time.

But at this moment, it was a special situation, and they were going down in batches, so most outsiders would not be too reserved in this aspect.

They directly followed the city guards into the elevator platform, ready to go down and show their skills.

After all, they had been prepared to fight the enemy before, but before they could have their fill, it was announced that the Ninglan Township Fortress had changed hands.

This was very frustrating for those who wanted to vent their strength but had nowhere to vent it.

You know, when they came here and found that their strength had suddenly increased a lot, they naturally had the desire to show off.

In the beginning, when the outsiders came to Ninglan New City, they had caused quite a few jokes because of this, and had also brought no small trouble to the natives here.

And just as they were marching into the underground city in such a grand manner, in the distance, a group of people had gathered here.

From the robes they were wearing at this moment, they were naturally the long-lost Wizard Academy.

The Wizard Academy had initially directly contacted that City Lord.

As the only pure-bred human race among the outsiders, that City Lord gave them different treatment.

He had not expected that the old City Lord was also a believer in human supremacy.

After all, compared to those who were different from ordinary people, people of the same human race were more relatable.

So, in principle, that old City Lord had not trusted those outsiders from the beginning, because they were not pure humans, at least from their appearance.

Those with wings, pointed ears, and even scales on their bodies, and those with beastly features on their bodies, really made this old City Lord very suspicious.

Even though they were from the Wizard Academy, they also knew very well that the old City Lord was also wary of them, just not as obviously as with the other transcendent academies.

And now, the people with combat power from the Wizard Academy had joined forces with that old City Lord and killed most of the confirmed Nightmare Demons.

They didn’t expect that in the end, he still couldn’t hold on due to physical reasons, and then that old City Lord cut off contact with them.

He only left a message that he would pass the position of City Lord to his son.

All of this happened very abruptly, so much so that it directly interrupted their subsequent plans.

But in the end, they still did not choose to side with Ninglan Qiuyu again.

They chose to be neutral, to withdraw themselves from the limitations of the situation, and to overlook the overall situation.

For Ninglan Qiuyu’s actions at this moment, the Wizard Academy had also received the news, and was even watching from a distance.

For their actions, the people of the Wizard Academy also scoffed.

What was the difference between this and Ninglan Qiuyue bringing the main force of the underground city up, leaving the underground city’s combat power empty?

They had seen the cunning of the Nightmare Demons.

But even if they showed up and reminded those guys, they probably wouldn’t listen.

So they chose to stay here alone and guard Ninglan New City on the surface, so that the basic foundation on the surface would not be attacked again by the Nightmare Demons’ feint.

”Boss Ai En... are we really not going to follow?”

”Wait. We are the last insurance, the insurance on the surface. And... I feel that that Ninglan Qiuyu is also a bit problematic.”

The young man called Ai En, whose full name was Ai En Gailand, was also one of the people who had voluntarily contracted the Sleeping Curse this time.

And he was also one of the... Children of Destiny that the Wizard Academy had hidden away during the previous Dream State Exchange Competition.

But he himself did not know this.

In order to hide him last time in the exchange competition, the Wizard Academy had given a lot of resources as compensation.

”Listening to the boss is right. We are not the kind of guys who will go to their deaths just because of a rush of blood to the head. We are wizards.”

”Alright, alright... I just want to go back quickly.”

At this moment, in the underground city.

The discussion at the senior management meeting of the extraordinary research base was very heated.

Although they were a little reserved at the beginning with an outsider like me present, gradually, they started to argue because of their different concepts.

Then they sat down and discussed properly again because of their common interests.

It was a constant drama.

And at this moment, there was a knock on the door of the meeting room.

Instantly, everyone stopped what they were doing.

This was the highest-level meeting of the base.

Except for specific matters, this place was not allowed to be disturbed.

”Come in,” finally, one of them said.

After all, there were not many things that could interrupt the progress of the meeting.

Everyone also tacitly shielded the content of the discussion.

The person who said ”come in” went forward and had a simple inquiry with the other party, and then the other party withdrew.

Everyone looked at that person, curious about what information had interrupted the progress of the meeting.

”Ahem, that person just brought us some good news. The main passage elevator between our underground city and the surface has just requested a multi-level ascent. We have currently made contact with the other party through the elevator’s equipped system. The support from the surface has arrived.”

”Really!”

Instantly, the faces of these people lit up with excitement.

The support had arrived, so the underground city would no longer have to live under the fear of being dominated by those Nightmare Demons.

”The meeting is temporarily suspended. Let’s go and welcome them first.”

With this announcement, the meeting also came to a temporary end.

But the gazes of many people also turned to me.

After all, they were also shrewd.

Although the base was not far from the main elevator, if there was no one to protect them, those Nightmare Demons in the dark might be able to solve them in a short time.

Although this probability was not high, but in the face of the unknown, people would always scare themselves.

”In this situation, I naturally have to go and see for myself,” I stood up and said.
