Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 308: Extraordinary Technology Research Association

“Yes, relying solely on this, he comprehended the foundation of the extraordinary skills that have sustained the development of Ninglan New City to this day. This is precisely the embodiment of the charm and ability of the first Ninglan City Lord.”

“Is that so…”

I looked at these fragments and fell into deep thought.

I always felt that I had overlooked a lot of important information.

That first City Lord could comprehend extraordinary skills through this and lay a solid foundation for the development of extraordinary skills in Ninglan New City… How did he do it?

Natural ability?

Talent?

There are always some geniuses who cannot be judged by common sense.

Or was the first City Lord a Child of Destiny who accomplished this feat under the impetus of the script?

No, no, no… I can’t make such groundless guesses.

Maybe there’s just a simpler reason, like… Spirit Vision?

But that first City Lord might not have been an Innate Spirit Visionary.

The improvement of Spirit Vision is estimated to naturally increase with age.

“May I ask, when that first City Lord… comprehended the extraordinary skills, how old… was he? I mean his age.”

“Age? That’s a tricky question, but I still remember. He was 56 years old. Otherwise, I would have to put on my reading glasses and look it up again. At that time, the first City Lord was hale and hearty, saw through right and wrong, understood reason, and understood human nature… It can be said that most of the glory of the first Ninglan City Lord is recounted starting from the latter half of his life… Hehe, if that first City Lord could have lived for another ten years or so, perhaps Ninglan New City today would have undergone a great transformation again, hehe…”

“56 years old…”

I nodded.

At that age, if his Spirit Vision had reached the second level, “Imaging,” or even the third level, “Unknown,” even if separated from me by the “Madness Threshold,” it would indeed be enough to see through the mysteries of the runes within.

Just as I was pondering, the curator quietly left my side, seemingly having seen someone and gone to greet them.

“You’re here again. You kids really are something. Coming here every day, don’t you get tired?”

“Hmm?”

I looked up at the two people the old curator was talking to.

“Grandpa Curator, aren’t we here to see you often? And by the way, to study our history’s initial extraordinary skills again. You know this is what we do.”

“Eh? You two, are you also interested in this relic left behind by the first City Lord?”

“Are you talking to me?”

I looked up at this pair of man and woman with doubt and asked.

“Of course. Apart from the old curator, there are only the two of us here.”

The young man in the lead said with a smile.

“Alright, is there something you need?”

I frowned and looked at this overly familiar pair and asked.

If it were an overly familiar beautiful girl, I might be enthusiastic.

Forget it if it’s a guy… I can’t get excited.

“Oh, nothing. Just saying hello. I saw you standing in front of this relic for a long time. You should also be someone interested in extraordinary skills, right? Are you interested in joining our Extraordinary Technology Research Association?”

“Extraordinary Technology Research Association?”

I looked at them suspiciously.

I seemed to have heard this term before.

It seemed to have been mentioned by that City Lord.

“Yes, it seems you have heard of it, miss. Our Extraordinary Technology Research Association is an organization specifically responsible for studying extraordinary skills. Most of us are people interested in extraordinary skills who gathered together to form this current association. If you are also very interested in extraordinary skills, you are welcome to join our association. We have the most detailed basic introductory knowledge of extraordinary skills in the whole of Ninglan New City. Those are all treasures organized and passed down by generations of presidents.”

At this moment, this young man spoke very excitedly.

I just mentioned the name of his association, and he talked endlessly for a long time.

His chatting ability was already on par with this old curator.

“No thanks. We are outsiders, not natives of Ninglan New City. We will leave here eventually.”

I shook my head and said, which was considered a polite refusal.

“Ah? Outsiders… wait, outsiders? You are outsiders? The City Lord said that our Ninglan New City welcomed a batch of outsiders. I didn’t expect you to be them? This… this is truly an honor! If you don’t want to join our association, if you are interested in our extraordinary skills, we still welcome you!”

“But speaking of extraordinary skills… I am indeed quite interested.”

I nodded and said, then looked at Big Sis Bai again.

Big Sis Bai just responded to me with a smile.

“Isn’t this a coincidence! Then… do you want to go to our association now to find out more? Without guidance regarding extraordinary skills, the threshold for learning is really too high.”

“Sure.”

I nodded, but then seemed to think of something.

“By the way, I have had contact with the City Lord. The City Lord can be said to be strictly guarding against extraordinary skills. Would the City Lord allow you folk to freely develop extraordinary skills?”

“Eh? I didn’t expect you to have talked to the City Lord? Actually, initially, the City Lord did not allow us to study extraordinary skills privately, but this goes back several generations of City Lords. Later, it was slowly relaxed, and that’s how our Extraordinary Technology Research Association came into being.”

“However, the extraordinary skills mastered by our Extraordinary Technology Research Association are all for civilian use. Extraordinary skills that can cause direct damage are classified as controlled extraordinary skills. Even if mastered, most of them are likely to be valued by the City Lord and then work for the City Lord. In fact, our Extraordinary Technology Research Association is also a springboard for many ordinary people to master extraordinary skills. Their main purpose is to be valued by the City Lord.”

“But we don’t refuse anyone. After all, we are only responsible for guiding people who love extraordinary skills into the door of extraordinary skills. If he can use us as a springboard to work for the City Lord, it shows that he has strong talent in extraordinary skills. Our association will not do things that limit others’ development.”

“Is that so?”

I nodded, understanding.

Divided into civilian use and controlled military use?

It seems this is not out of my expectation.

Subsequently, Big Sis Bai and I were led by these two to the location of this so-called Extraordinary Technology Research Association.

I didn’t expect such an association to have an official venue, and a very large one at that.

There were people coming and going inside, even livelier than the history museum.

Sure enough, extraordinary skills are still very attractive.

After all, mastering transcendent power is too attractive to ordinary people.

However… regarding the extraordinary skills here, there seemed to be a big gap from what I expected.

Combining the understanding from the history museum earlier, the tech tree of the extraordinary skills they mastered seemed a bit crooked compared to what I expected.

It seemed it was not purely extraordinary skills, but combined with something else.

That is, mechanical structures like gears and clockwork.

But there seems to be no problem with this.

Mechanical structures are very common.

Combining them with extraordinary skills can create new sparks.

It is also a typical manifestation of the pragmatic extraordinary transition stage.

When they realized that the extraordinary skills combined with mechanical structures they mastered became an obstacle to their current development, they would have two choices.

One is to change tracks, and the other is to go all the way in the mechanical aspect to a new beginning.

This reminds me that in alchemy, there seems to be a classification called mechanical alchemist?

Sure enough, the saying that everything can be alchemy does not seem to be an exaggeration.

After all, the scope covered by the concept of alchemy is indeed a bit unfair.

After seeing me flipping through their introductory books casually, and our attention being focused more on the exhibits of finished extraordinary skills, they did not have any in-depth communication with me anymore.

After all, they have seen many people like this.

They do not truly love extraordinary skills, but are simply curious about this kind of thing, coming to satisfy their own curiosity, not coming to learn with an open mind.

So they felt there was no need to force such people.

However, if I could understand what they were thinking, I could only say they worried too much.

I was not interested in their introductory books because the content of these books was about the same as the content of popular science books in the Witch Academy.

Any basic content in my Memory Bookshelf spellbook could crush them.

But I still spent time reading them all.

Because I also had my own ideas.

What I looked at was their definition and understanding of extraordinary power.

The transcendent field is a very inclusive field.

From what angle you view, discover, and study, you will get corresponding theories, viewpoints, and results.

This is what is worth my understanding.

This can broaden my cognition, knowledge, and train of thought, etc.

Of course… before that, I also learned about the term “Spirit Vision” from them.

They also have Spirit Vision, but one thing is… the probability of them awakening Spirit Vision is very low, extremely low.

Spirit Vision is a blessing given to us by the world, which is talent.

Theoretically, everyone has it, but some only have the opportunity or possibility to awaken it.

After all, some people cannot awaken it in their lifetime, while some are naturally born with Spirit Vision.

This is the gap between awakenings.

And here, the probability of awakening Spirit Vision is extremely low…

This reminds me of before I entered the Transcendent Academy.

According to the original statement, Spirit Vision is the threshold for contacting the transcendent, but now it seems narrow.

That is only the admission threshold for the Transcendent Academy.

Can’t others contact the transcendent without Spirit Vision?

No, the people here told me no, they can too, but the price is… achievements are not high.

It seems the reason why Ninglan New City has developed for a thousand years with average technological level and average extraordinary skills has been found.

Of course, there is also the reason of a small population base.

Even if the probability of awakening Spirit Vision here is very small, it is not non-existent.

Even with such existence, progress has only been this much in a thousand years, then… what about other worlds?

Maybe they can only constantly pile up the population, hoping to have such monstrous geniuses to lead that world to leap forward?

However, generally speaking, such geniuses are basically born at the right moment, that is… script, Children of Destiny, “tools” pushed by the World Consciousness.

In fact, without external interference, for a civilization, scripts and destiny are good existences.

It can help a civilization achieve a leap, or save that world, etc.

“Little Han, judging by your appearance, it seems you’ve gained a lot?”

Big Sis Bai asked by my side.

“Yes, I have gained a lot. It should be said to be an eye-opener. Leaving the Witch Academy, breaking away from the environment surrounded by advanced transcendent knowledge, it seems I can better value those so-called foundations here.”

I nodded and said.

Here, I can learn the basics of many things, and even cast aside the restrictions of spellbooks and use spells directly!

This is an excellent place to learn.

If all this is the Academy Head’s arrangement, I seem to understand the Academy Head’s intentions a bit.

If I can cast aside external interference and study here, it must be twice the result with half the effort.

Moreover, there are not only those extraordinary mechanical skills here, but also prototypes of spell applications!

That is, the prototype of the Lesser Spellbook, using extraordinary power to build spell prototypes, or using unsystematic rune rituals to build spell effects.

This is undoubtedly a good place to learn and understand spells!

Even… theoretically speaking, it is more suitable for me and Big Sis Bai.

Although Big Sis Bai only came into contact with runes and spell rituals when she was about to graduate, it is precisely because she just came into contact with them that it is just right to learn the basics here.

“Is that so?”

“Yes, Big Sis Bai, you should study with me! This is the initial stage of rune exploration, and theories related to spells are just beginning to develop. In such a general environment, it is actually more meaningful than the teaching of those so-called basic courses in the Witch Academy.”

“Hmm? You mean… but we came here not for…”

“For what? For nothing. We can’t just wait here for something that hasn’t happened yet. Big Sis Bai, aren’t you going to study runes with me! Learning spell knowledge, didn’t Big Sis Bai say at first that you longed to learn spell knowledge? Here, without the restrictions of spellbooks, we can cast spells ourselves and play freely. There is no better place to learn than here, is there?”

I turned to look at Big Sis Bai, looking at her with hopeful eyes.

“This…”

For a moment, Bai Yu’s reaction speed couldn’t keep up with my jumpiness, “But…”

“What is Big Sis Bai worried about? Our bodies in the outside world are fine right now, there are people taking care of them in the infirmary.”

“Alright…”

“And we don’t know how long we will stay here. We can’t just wander around here, right? We have to find something to do for ourselves.”

“Then Little Han, what are you going to do now?”

“Hehe, of course, cooperate with the Extraordinary Technology Research Association. Only by showing our own value can we make the other party cooperate with us. Learning is a process of continuous communication and promotion. The people here are normal people, even geniuses. What they lack is just knowledge, but they are not fools. What do you think, Big Sis Bai?”

“You’re right, Little Han.”

At this moment, Bai Yu also accepted this setting.

Indeed, putting aside those worries, as well as the threats of Nightmares and Nightmare demons, this is undoubtedly a very good place to learn.

“Hehe That’s right.”

I said with a smile.

Of course, I also have an idea, which is to improve Ninglan New City’s use of extraordinary skills.

After all, our biggest enemy is the Nightmare demon.

Relying solely on us, we cannot kill those cunning Nightmare demons.

This requires the cooperation of the people of Ninglan New City.

In the battle where we captured that Nightmare demon earlier, I understood the value of these people in Ninglan New City.

They filled our gap in reality.

But with just Ninglan New City like this, their combat power is not enough.

Only that so-called Type III Extraordinary Killer is worth looking at, but it is still not enough.

Just looking at the fact that that thing requires authorization to use, one can see that this thing cannot be popularized at all, let alone be used in time in various emergencies.

Perhaps I can speed up their development process.

The only thing that needs to be considered is the City Lord’s side.

Will he accept this kind of encouraging growth by pulling up seedlings for extraordinary skills?

Just like the development of technology will also be accompanied by the pain of changing careers in many industries in society, in Ninglan New City, the drawbacks produced by such development will only be more obvious.

Of course, if that City Lord has equal courage, all this will not be a problem.

“Let’s go, let’s see if the president of the association is in.”
