Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 328: The Dilemma of Ninglan New City’s Lord

”Whoa! Alright!”

”Excellent! These damned Nightmares!”

Following the cheers from the crowd, the members of the Earth Patrol Team went from solemn expressions to ecstatic joy.

They never thought they would one day be able to personally capture those Nightmares.

Looking back a few days ago, they were just loafers who could only seal off the scene when facing a Nightmare invasion.

Now, they could rightfully accept the cheers of the crowd.

Even though they knew these guys were just troublemakers watching the show, they didn’t care about such small details.

Each of them held a new type of weapon.

Its appearance seemed rushed, directly borrowing the shell of a Type I extraordinary killer spear.

But its essence was an experimental Nightmare killer produced by the extraordinary research base.

When the people from the extraordinary research base found the Earth Patrol Team, they couldn’t believe the base’s efficiency was so fast.

How many days has it been since the Nightmares appeared?

In the past, when there were some small security problems that required the base’s cooperation, which time didn’t it take a month or several months?

They would often use the beast tide on the surface as an excuse, saying that the reserves were over-consumed or something.

Sometimes the quality was also very problematic.

But this time, although the quality was indeed somewhat lacking, this was an experimental model that hadn’t been mass-produced.

Even so, before this Nightmare operation, they had only been briefly trained on how to use it, and now they could use it directly.

They looked at the Nightmares trapped in the front of the Nightmare killers they were holding.

Although it was called a killer, it didn’t have the ability to kill the Nightmares, only to trap them.

Later, they would have to escort these Nightmares all the way to the extraordinary research base for special containment.

According to the base, the Nightmare killer was still in the development stage.

To truly kill a Nightmare, the Nightmare killer would have to be iterated to at least a Type II Nightmare killer.

And now, the Nightmare killer didn’t even have an official Type I model yet.

The people of the Earth Patrol Team naturally understood.

This was the extraordinary research base they were familiar with, terribly slow in efficiency.

---

And at this moment, on the surface, Ninglan New City.

”Lord City Lord, there are rumors in the city that you are colluding with the Nightmare Demon, at the cost of the lives of ordinary people...”

”Since you know they are rumors, just suppress them. I don’t want this kind of thing to spread again.”

”Yes.”

”City Lord, we have received news from the city defense army that there is an unusual movement of mutated beasts outside the city. This month’s beast tide may break out a few days earlier. According to preliminary analysis, it may be slightly related to the outsiders we drove out.”

”Slightly related? It’s definitely related. The outsiders were expelled from our Ninglan New City, and they hold a grudge and collude with the mutated beasts outside the city to stir up a beast tide. The outsiders are our biggest enemy. Do you know how to suppress those rumors now?”

”Yes... City Lord.”

”Lord City Lord, we have also received news from the extraordinary research base in the underground city. They have made a breakthrough in the Nightmare killer project, and the experimental samples have successfully captured the Nightmares. It won’t be long before the Type I Nightmare killer can be put into small-scale manual mass production.”

”So fast...”

Hearing this report, Ninglan Qiuyun couldn’t help but sigh.

”I heard that the underground city has heavily relied on an outsider scholar... That outsider brought a brand new extraordinary skill, and this Nightmare kill...”

”Alright, I know,” he said with a wave of his hand.

”Then, City Lord, about the procurement of the Nightmare killers...”

”We have our own means. Or are you looking down on the strength of our Extraordinary Technology Research Association?”

Ninglan Qiuyun glared at the person reporting.

He couldn’t reveal his cooperation with the Nightmare Demon.

Although he also knew that many of the officials below seemed to have been held by the Nightmare Demon’s leverage, this was still not something that could be said openly.

Of course, he needed a source for the means that the Nightmare Demon had brought out.

Did Ninglan New City have its own extraordinary technology research base?

No.

The long-term reliance of the surface on the underground for extraordinary skills, and the long-term cooperative relationship that had formed, had led the surface to completely abandon the research of extraordinary skills, at most having an Extraordinary Technology Research Association.

And that association president named Wu Mali was just a fledgling who had just taken office.

As the City Lord, it was easy for him to handle such an existence.

He only needed a reasonable excuse.

But those enhanced weapons seemed to be particularly effective against outsiders, but were very stretched when used against Nightmares.

Even the special team of the dream city guards would end up in a sorry state.

If it weren’t for the cooperation of the Nightmare Demon, they would have no means to kill the Nightmares.

”City Lord, the scourge of the Nightmares must be eliminated. We can only rely on the special city guard team to face the Nightmares now. But they have to deal with the Nightmares and also expel the outsiders. There have been too many deaths, and many people have said they can’t stand it anymore. If this continues and the first death occurs, it will greatly shake the city guard...”

”Enough, I know. But the beast tide is approaching. I hope you know the priorities!”

Then, this matter was settled just like that.

But in the end, out of some considerations, they also prepared to buy some samples of the Nightmare killer for testing.

Then, Ninglan Qiuyun once again dealt with official business.

Ever since he had been entangled by this soul-stealing Nightmare Demon, Ninglan Qiuyun had found it increasingly difficult to manage Ninglan New City, and there were more and more things to be busy with and to balance.

But there was no other way.

He had no choice.

This was the sorrow of the weak.

As the City Lord, he knew very well how fragile the human settlement of Ninglan New City, built on the ruins, was.

After a thousand years, even a small difficulty could cause it to fall apart.

The fact that Ninglan New City could last for so long might be partly due to their own efforts, but the bigger reason was good luck, not encountering any disasters.

And now, the arrival of these outsiders, the appearance of the Nightmares, and the lurking of that damned Nightmare Demon, each was a bomb that could destroy the entire Ninglan New City.

He felt that he was about to give up.

Even though outsiders saw him as still in his prime, the decay of his heart and body was already visible to the naked eye.

He insisted on exercising every day to prevent his body from having problems, using extraordinary skills to strengthen his body.

All of this was to better dedicate himself to Ninglan New City, everything for the continuation of Ninglan New City.

Of course... and his child.

Ninglan Qiuyu.

He needed to help him clear out these external factors in the time he had left.

Those outsiders and the Nightmares were not a fundamental threat to Ninglan Qiuyun at all.

He was an old fox, how could he not see the harm of the Nightmare Demon to Ninglan New City?

The Nightmare Demon was the biggest enemy of Ninglan New City!

He needed to clean up all the Nightmare Demons before he left.

But whose hand would he use to clean them up?

Those outsiders.

His good daughter had already brought this matter to the group of outsiders.

The hand of the Nightmare Demon had already invaded the position of the City Lord.

He needed to use himself to pull down those Nightmare Demons together and attract the hatred of the outsiders, to destroy them along with himself.

All that was needed was a fuse.

The public opinion in the city seemed to be flying everywhere, but the reversal of public opinion was easy.

It could be said that he had already paved the way for many things, just waiting for his son to rebel.

Ninglan Qiuyun was already prepared to be infamous for ten thousand years, to clear the obstacles for his son, and finally to become his stepping stone, for him to step on his corpse to ascend to the position of the City Lord of Ninglan New City.

He could naturally see the desire and ambition suppressed in his son’s heart.

He just pretended not to know.

And he also hoped that his son had such an idea.

If his son was not interested in the position of City Lord, that was when he would be anxious.

As for his daughter, capturing and grounding her was also a kind of protection for her.

Before those Nightmare Demons had finished using him, if they dared to touch his daughter, he would fight them to the death.

Out of consideration of interests, those Nightmare Demons would at least not make a move for a short time, provided that Ninglan Qiuyue did not do anything to touch the nerves of those Nightmare Demons.

”Ninglan Qiuyu’s side... how is it?”

Just as Ninglan Qiuyun was about to ask, the officials below seemed to be possessed and put down what they were doing and left.

Seeing this scene, Ninglan Qiuyun cursed inwardly, but he couldn’t get angry.

Then, an enchanting figure gently appeared behind Ninglan Qiuyun.

She snuggled against Ninglan Qiuyun’s back, her fingers gently stroking the bulging muscle lines on his back, giving him goosebumps.

”So concerned about your son?”

”I advise you not to lay a hand on my son,” Ninglan Qiuyun threatened coldly.

But this Nightmare Demon remained unmoved.

”Alright then that little brother looks much more delicious than you, his father. It seems I won’t be able to taste him before you go.”

”Don’t worry, I can still hold on for a long time.”

”Still dealing with official documents? Why not take a break with me now and enjoy that wonderful experience again?”

”After I’m done with my work,” Ninglan Qiuyun said with a gloomy face.

”Let me see hmm underground city... Nightmare killer, hehe, it seems I’ve seen something interesting. I didn’t expect that the underground city I never paid much attention to has quietly made such a thing?”

”Why are you curious about this?”

”Just a little toy it can only trap the Nightmares. Such a fragile thing can’t even kill them. What a useless thing. You’re actually planning to buy some to play with?”

”Just a test. After all, you also know that your efficiency in dealing with the Nightmares in the city is too low. If someone assists on the side, it can improve some efficiency.”

”That’s true. Every time I have to deal with those Nightmares myself. If you guys catch the Nightmares and let me help you clean them up, it would indeed save a lot of trouble.”

”So you also choose to be lazy?”

”Why not? This way I can have more time to see if you’ve been up to any little tricks behind my back.”

”Hmph...”

Ninglan Qiuyun didn’t answer, because he knew that his actions might be more difficult from now on.

So she was suspicious after all.

She had looked down on it before.

The underground city could not be tainted by these Nightmare Demons.

There were more important things there, the root of the Ninglan Shelter Stele.

This was the foundation of Ninglan New City.

Those outsider Nightmares couldn’t destroy it, but the Nightmare Demons could.

---

Underground city.

With the multiple successful experiments of the experimental Nightmare killer, the appearance of the official Type I Nightmare killer could now officially begin to be redesigned.

Of course, the base also obtained a lot of testing information and data intelligence on the Nightmare killer from the Earth Patrol Team, and then made further adjustments to it.

But these trivial matters were not what I should be concerned about.

I was just purely responsible for the breakthrough in theory and skills.

Of course, this skill could also be expressed in the form of a spell, which was crucial.

As for the research on the Type II Nightmare killer, I planned to let them study it step by step.

With the case and theoretical guidance of the Type I Nightmare killer, I believe it won’t be long before they can complete it.

Of course, I’m not saying I won’t participate.

After all, without my participation, what they consider simple would probably take several months to have a breakthrough.

After all, this was still considered very fast progress.

I stepped back from this, just acting as a theoretical guide for the Nightmare killer, to save time.

Naturally, it was because I had my own things to do.

I had to make some attempts, to start breaking through my limitation of only being in the dream.

Admittedly, if I were to descend directly here, there would be a great risk to myself.

But with just my consciousness here, the risk I faced would only be greater.

So I had to do this.

And since I had decided to do so, then I naturally had to be fully prepared to deal with various emergencies, no matter how small the probability was, I had to pay attention.

I would not allow such a meaningless accident to happen.

And before that, I needed to fully understand the teleportation spellbook that Big Sis Bai had.

Using a spellbook was one thing, using a spell without a spellbook was another, and completely understanding the internal structure, rune ritual, and operation effect of a spell was another matter entirely.

Thoroughly understanding this spell would allow me to not be helpless in the face of most accidents.

And another point was that Big Sis Bai reminded me that the spatial coordinate anchor point reserved for the teleportation spell could not be in the dream.

This meant that the next arrangement could not be done by my hand.

It would require the help of the Fool’s Dream.

It wasn’t that I didn’t trust the other scholars or apprentices here, but that I had never trusted any of them from the beginning.

This was a matter of principle.

My relationship with them would only be an academic discussion, and there would be no deeper communication.

Even if they learned the rune rituals and other things related to the transcendent, if it was of no meaning to me, I wouldn’t teach them a single bit, unless the other party showed the value for me to teach him.

And the Fool’s Dream, I knew them inside and out, so I naturally trusted them.

And I also called Big Sis Bai over.

Although... Big Sis Bai was helpless about everything that happened in reality, at least if something irreversible really happened, I wouldn’t be completely clueless when I came back.

”Little Han, is it really okay?”

”Big Sis Bai, you should be wishing me success, not worrying about me,” I smiled and looked at Big Sis Bai.

---

Witch Academy, Infirmary.

”Hmm... so boring. Did you bring a little toy? Let me borrow it... mine is out of battery.”

”Huh? Why are you still using an electric one? Isn’t the magic-driven one strong enough?”

”It’s cheap...”

In the infirmary, two seniors who were part-time caretakers for the Sleeping Curse patients were chatting about some outrageous topics in their boredom.

And at this moment, one of the seniors who was facing the door suddenly stood up.

”A... Academy Head, good day!”

”Huh? Huh!? Academy Head, good day! Why are you here, Academy Head?”

The other one also quickly got up and turned around, seeing that figure.

”It’s nothing. You two can go out for now. I’ll take over here,” Mei Linde smiled and looked at the two students, and said.

”Alright! Alright!”

The two seniors quickly got up and left without a trace of hesitation.
