Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 137: New Spell, Spirit Cat Summoning

”What? Are you afraid to take it?”

Ji Niang saw my hesitation and used a different tone to provoke me.

”No, it’s not that. It’s just...”

”What are you hesitating about? Are you concerned about its value? If you are, I’m going to laugh at you. You’re doing research, and you’re still backing down because of the value of your experimental subject? I gave you a chance, and you should take it. Even if I just mentioned it, you should have been pestering me for something better.”

Ji Niang came in front of me and patted my face with her hand, her tone sounding like she was lecturing me.

”You need to be more shameless. Being this thin-skinned won’t work. If Tan Han had encountered this situation, she would have even dared to ask me for a Million-God Spell. This isn’t a guess; she actually did ask the Academy for it.”

”I understand...”

I looked at Ji Niang.

She always compared me to Tan Han.

Perhaps the first time she did this, it resonated with me.

But after that, I realized that this wouldn’t work.

It would naturally make me see Tan Han as a target to chase after, not someone to surpass.

I might dislike Ji Niang’s lecturing style now, but it could indeed teach me many things.

For example, being thick-skinned this time and the first time I showed ambition.

Thinking about it, these two were actually quite similar in a way.

Occasionally letting go of your reserve might lead to unexpected benefits.

”You understand? What do you understand?”

Ji Niang asked, still with her smiling expression.

”Is there anything or any method to quickly improve mental power?”

”Huh? You’re not asking me for a spellbook?”

Ji Niang’s face showed a look of surprise.

”Do I need to remind you? The most powerful spell Tan Han has consumed is over a thousand magic powers, and even though she doesn’t have that many Magic Power Sources now, she can already use spells at the level of a hundred magic powers normally.”

”Teacher Ji Niang, I know the newcomer competition is coming soon, and I know why you’re giving me a new spell, but since this matter is outside the scope of research, I believe that improving my Mental Power is more important than me having a spell that consumes ten points of magic power.”

”Alright. Then what about after the competition? Are you not going to do research anymore?”

Ji Niang asked, crossing her arms after seeing my well-reasoned retort.

”You’re still here, Teacher Ji Niang. You wouldn’t want our group’s progress to stall, would you?”

I narrowed my eyes, smiling at Ji Niang.

The meaning was clear.

I wanted to improve my Mental Power and also wanted a stronger spell.

I wanted it all!

Being thick-skinned, wasn’t that what she had just taught me?

”You little rascal. You... have a point. Mental Power is indeed very important. I also don’t want you to spend a lot of time meditating here.”

Ji Niang hadn’t expected me to reply in this way.

Before, my interactions with Ji Niang had always been very restrained, even humble.

If I had a problem, I would try to find a solution myself, and only then would I politely ask Ji Niang for advice.

Being thick-skinned seemed to have nothing to do with me, but now I was applying what I had just learned?

It cost her a Mental Power potion and a ten-consumption spell.

Although this was a common practice for other class counselors, this was the first time Ji Niang was a counselor.

Although these things were nothing to a Transcendent witch, they were still a form of investment.

No, the current Ji Niang should see this as an investment, an investment that could yield returns at this stage, an investment that she might not be able to control in the future.

Thinking of this, Ji Niang even wondered if she had given me too little.

But since the other party hadn’t demanded more, she didn’t give more.

Then she no longer hesitated and took out a potion bottle and a small box from her storage equipment.

”Today’s progress ends here. Take these things and get ready for the upcoming competition.”

”Thank you, Teacher.”

I lowered my head and took the two items.

As expected, I was still not used to shamelessly asking for things.

”Then... I’ll be going now.”

”Go on, go on.”

Ji Niang waved her hand as if she were chasing me away.

”Um... Teacher, is there anything I should pay attention to with this potion? Should I just drink it?”

Just as I was about to leave, I thought of something and turned back to ask.

”Just drink it. Good heavens. It’s best to combine it with meditation. Seriously, what use are you if you can’t even drink a potion?”

Ji Niang laughed and cursed, watching me leave.

Only after she couldn’t hear my voice anymore did she return to her original expressionless state.

She went to the experimental table and looked for the previous experimental records and videos.

These were very important materials and were the most important achievements of the group Ji Niang had formed at this stage.

Although the current achievements were significant, they were, to put it bluntly, just a recreation of the path that the predecessors had pioneered.

Short-sighted people would even find them insignificant, but their significance was that someone had done what the predecessors had once done.

The path left behind by the predecessors was just that, a path.

It didn’t mean that anyone could walk on it again.

The person who walked on it again meant that they had the potential to reach the same level of achievement as the predecessors.

Or even surpass them.

The spellbook she gave me this time, which consumed ten magic powers, was a summoning spell called ”Spirit Cat Summoning.”

Consuming ten magic powers could summon a ”spirit cat” constructed from a spell to assist the caster in battle.

However, the spirit cat was about the size of a normal house cat, and its combat power was not very strong, but its consumption was ten times that of a Fireball.

This was naturally the special effect of a summoning spell: assisting in combat, flexibility, command, and cooperation...

These were things that a thrown Fireball...

No, a normal Fireball couldn’t compare to.

Thinking of this, she recalled the Fireball I had modified before, which could still be controlled by the caster after being cast, so she corrected herself.

Good heavens...

Ji Niang patted her forehead.

She herself had been limited in her thinking by the spellbook.

One must know that even for a summoning spell, it was a very difficult technical task to have the summoned little guy assist in battle, cooperate, and even obey commands very flexibly.

She was already looking forward to what kind of sparks this Spirit Cat Summoning spell would create under my modifications.

Forget it...

Ji Niang no longer entertained those unrealistic fantasies.

It was better to organize this information and hand it in.

She wondered where in the library these materials would be placed.

The Academy library had many divisions, which also represented the division of knowledge levels.

The corresponding knowledge would be placed in the corresponding place.

That was something money couldn’t buy.

You had to have authority!

In the Transcendent world, knowledge was far more valuable than resources.

After all, the material resources in the void outside the world were ”endless,” but knowledge was ”finite.”

Although knowledge was all there, someone had to have the qualifications to touch it.

The knowledge explored by life was finite and even incommunicable.

Especially Transcendent Knowledge, which was a classic example of incommunicable knowledge.

And at this moment.

I opened the box that Teacher Ji Niang had given me.

It was a spellbook, as expected.

I wondered what the power of a spell that consumed a two-digit amount of magic power would be like?

After I used the spellbook, I confirmed that there was no convenient spellbook introduction or user manual inside, so I opened my phone.

The Earth Vein information on my phone should have recorded everything very clearly.

”Spirit Cat Summoning?”

I read out the name of the new spell from the information.

It seemed that it wasn’t the same type as an evocation spell like Fireball?

A summoning spell...

It seemed a little interesting, but I couldn’t see any more information.

Should I try it now?

This was a spell that consumed ten magic power.

I wondered how strong the summoned spirit cat’s attack would be.

And I also didn’t know if this spirit cat was an actual living creature summoned from an unknown place or a solid object created by the spell.

These were things with a fundamental difference.

I also didn’t know if this spirit cat would listen to me or if it could understand the language I spoke.

Just thinking about the possible problems, I felt that this spell was a lot of trouble.

But since it had already been made into a spellbook, it should be something like a fool-proof operation.

Moreover, its consumption was ten magic powers.

My total Magic Power Sources were only 56, so at most, I could only use it five times.

Oh...

Thinking about it this way, I still didn’t know the duration of this summoning spell, whether it could take damage, or what would happen if it died.

Hmm...

This was a lot more troublesome to research and analyze than a Fireball.

But I didn’t have much hope that it would be of any use in the competition, after all, my trump cards were the Fireball and Protective Spell.

Let’s try it.

When I had this thought, I felt the Magic Power Sources in my body.

It seemed I had enough to cast this Spirit Cat Summoning spell once.

This was my first time using this spell.

Although there was no user manual, I still knew some basic principles, such as the internal spell ritual manifesting.

High in the air, a magic circle appeared in front of me.

Because it was my first time using it, I was very careful, and the casting speed was also very slow.

Or perhaps a summoning spell’s casting was just supposed to be this slow?

At this moment, a fluffy black creature appeared in front of me.

I freed up a hand and hugged it to prevent it from falling after being summoned.

But when I took it in my arms, I felt the smooth feeling of its fur rubbing against my fingers.

Its boneless and delicate body was instantly embraced by me.

And this spirit cat, which had been summoned by me, didn’t seem to resist.

In fact, because of the spell, a connection that was hard to explain was established between us.

This was my first feeling.

This summoning spell seemed to be continuous and was slowly consuming my magic power.

If I stopped the magic power consumption, I felt that this connection might break at any time.

I met the eyes of this little guy, but it responded with an empty gaze.

In just an instant, I probably understood many things.

This cute little cat was not a living creature.

It seemed to be just a ”puppet” created by the spell.

”Well, I have a little cat. I’m satisfied”

I didn’t ask for too much.

I just controlled the little cat to climb onto my shoulder, letting the high-altitude wind tousle its fur.
