From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 996: Chapter 992: Eldest Uncle’s Imperial Examination (Part 1)

Sun Dawu and his wife took turns complaining in front of Mu Shuangshuang.

Mu Shuangshuang couldn’t believe it at all, the people in front of her were the ones who had once pointed at her nose back in Er Gui Village.

This change was indeed significant.

The restaurant staff recognized Sun Dawu’s family but didn’t know what to do, so they went to the backyard to call Yu Dahai and Lu Yuanfeng.

Yu Dahai and Lu Yuanfeng both put down their work, entered the hall, and saw Sun Dawu and his wife begging Mu Shuangshuang for help.

Mu Shuangshuang kept explaining.

”Brother Wu, sister-in-law, it’s truly not that I don’t want to help you. Your baked pancakes aren’t selling because of me; I can’t solve your problem even if you ask me.” Mu Shuangshuang spoke honestly.

Mu Shuangshuang didn’t lie. Back when Sun Dawu found success, she had advised to limit the quantity daily.

She guessed that Sun Dawu’s family must have increased production for the sake of money, making baked pancakes just to earn money.

This damaged the foundation and broke the reputation of the baked pancakes.

”Miss Shuangshuang, I know you still blame me. I’m apologizing to you, please, save our family.” Sun Dawu pleaded.

Lu Yuanfeng hurriedly went up to pull Sun Dawu away.

”Brother Wu, Shuangshuang didn’t lie, she really can’t do anything about it.”

Lu Yuanfeng was the last straw for Sun Dawu. Before Sun Dawu could speak, Lu Yuanfeng had already stated his position.

This made Sun Dawu especially sad.

”Fengzi, Brother Wu was wrong, at first I didn’t listen to you...”

Noisy arguing, crying, and moaning sounded around, giving Mu Shuangshuang a headache.

She straightforwardly said, ”Do you really not know why it’s come to this now?”

Sun Dawu and his wife shook their heads together, but seeing that Mu Shuangshuang might give them guidance, hope rekindled in both of them.

”Greed!”

”Your baked pancakes sell for five coins each, higher than the market price. You have to highlight its strengths, good taste, good service, and rarity.”

”Thirty pancakes a day, only about twenty people can get them, and the rest can’t, that’s why they miss them.

But after increasing production, the taste definitely isn’t as good as the thirty from before, the service can’t keep up, and for those diners, it’s too easy to obtain.

Do you think they would spend five coins on something you can find everywhere on the street? No one’s money comes from the wind!”

Sun Dawu and his wife suddenly realized.

Sun Dawu even naively asked Mu Shuangshuang, ”If I go back to making thirty pancakes, selling for five coins a day, and stop when sold out, will it return to how it was?”

Mu Shuangshuang said nothing.

This made Sun Dawu feel it’s feasible, he grabbed his wife’s hand and prepared to leave.

Suddenly remembering he hadn’t said thank you, he turned back and thanked Mu Shuangshuang.

Because of this thank you, Mu Shuangshuang’s compassion was aroused.

”Brother Wu, some mistakes are simply mistakes! Spilled water is hard to retrieve, what you need to do is to be grounded in the days ahead!”

Sun Dawu was stunned, as if understanding something.

He looked at Mu Shuangshuang and then at the setup inside Chengfeng Restaurant.

He sighed deeply.

After Sun Dawu went out, Lu Yuanfeng followed and chased him out.

He stopped Sun Dawu and said to him, ”Brother Wu, where you fell is where you should rise up! I wish you success!”

Watching Sun Dawu’s family leave, Lu Yuanfeng suddenly felt that there are many choices in this world, seemingly capable of changing fate.

As for Mu Shuangshuang, because of Sun Dawu’s appearance, she increasingly felt that she needs to continuously enhance the restaurant’s strength.

No matter how delicious the baked pancakes, there’s a time when people get tired of them, no matter how tasty the restaurant, there’s a time when guests dislike it.

”Fengzi, starting today, let’s begin researching new dishes!” Mu Shuangshuang said.

Lu Yuanfeng was startled, only after a moment did he come around.

He hesitated on the spot, a sparkle flashed in his eyes, then he nodded and said, ”Okay!”

-

Mu Shuangshuang had dinner at home.

Having been occupied with restaurant affairs for more than half a month, it had been a long time since she had a peaceful meal at home.

During dinner, Yu Si Niang talked about Mu Dalang.

Yu Si Niang said, ”This time, Dalang is truly going to accomplish something.

From talking about land to buying the house, he did it all by himself. I heard him say he worked at Dahuo Village for Old Liu for a day, and Old Liu gave him quite a good discount.”

”Really, I’ve been busy lately and haven’t asked about the pig farm.” Mu Shuangshuang said.

The money for the pig farm, to break it down, she actually only gave ten taels of silver, four of which were from Mrs. Lin who broke a wine jar from her restaurant to pay off debt.

Fortunately, there was the village head’s seal, otherwise Mu Shuangshuang wouldn’t have gotten Mrs. Lin’s four taels of silver so easily.

Yu Si Niang said, ”Alas, the only concern is your grandparents and your second aunt wouldn’t be easy to deal with.”

”Originally, Dalang stopped being an apprentice to help with spring planting and summer harvesting. Now if he doesn’t work at Old Mu’s, your grandparents surely won’t agree.”

The labor force at Old Mu’s is only Mu Dazhong, Mu Danian, Mu Dajiang, and Mu Dalang, plus a few wives.

Now that Mu Dazhong is mining, Mu Danian is lazy and dishonest, finally having a Mu Dalang to supplement the workforce, but now he can’t work.

Mr. Mu and Old Mrs. Mu agreeing would be odd.

”Even if they don’t agree, there’s nothing to be done, Brother Dalang has to survive, has to consider his own future. With the current situation at Old Mu’s, Uncle’s family is enjoying life, while other households have to support them with blood, sweat, and money. Without finding a way, there’ll be trouble sooner or later!”

Speaking of which, isn’t the Imperial Examination over?

Mu Shuangshuang remembers the Imperial Examination seemed to be in February; after it’s over, then they can join the Palace Examination.

Just not knowing whether her uncle, supposedly a scholar, passed the Imperial Examination or not.

Mu Shuangshuang thought to herself, if Mu Dade didn’t pass the Imperial Examination and didn’t get the chance for the Palace Examination, would Old Mu’s family be embarrassed?

Back then, they even borrowed usury for sending Mu Dade.

”Indeed, just hope your grandparents give Dalang a chance.” Mu Dashan suddenly said.

Mu Shuangshuang helplessly shook her head.

She felt that possibility was close to zero.

Old Mrs. Mu wouldn’t be kind-hearted, she would only exploit Mu Dalang.

But if his brother were clever, he should know to tell her grandmother that the pig farm was hers, Mu Dalang was just helping out and got paid.

At Old Mu’s, similarly at the dinner table, Mr. Mu just happened to ask about what Mu Dalang was recently busy with.

Mu Dalang simply answered, ”Shuangshuang is building a pig farm at Tie Dao Village, I’m going to help with pig raising.”

”What? Raising pigs? Dalang, are you out of your mind? Raising pigs is dirty and smelly, just like those untrained livestock in our pigsty.”

Mrs. Lin stopped eating and started criticizing Mu Dalang.
