From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Chapter 959: Chapter 955: Fighting a Dog for Food (Third Update)

”Hey, you stinking beggar, you’re ugly, but your words are big. Tell me then, how do you plan to buy my bun stall?”

The bun stall guy said while rolling up his sleeves.

He was about to teach Mrs. Jin a lesson.

Mrs. Jin was bold. Even in her current sorry state, she was bolder than most people.

”How I buy the stall, what’s it to you? What, you want to hit me? Come on then! I don’t believe under broad daylight, you’d dare hit someone!” Mrs. Jin said.

These words not only made the bun stall guy laugh but also made the nearby vendors chuckle.

A small beggar, spouting nonsense was one thing.

But acting like a big shot, now that was unbearable.

”You think I won’t hit you, you stinking beggar!”

With that, the guy pushed Mrs. Jin with one hand.

Mrs. Jin, already weak, stumbled from the push and couldn’t keep her balance.

She staggered back several steps and finally fell down hard, yelping in pain while holding her backside.

She looked like a clown.

The surrounding crowd laughed even harder, bending over with laughter.

Mrs. Jin’s face turned red. Even after becoming a beggar, no one had pointed fingers at her like this. This rough guy, by what right?

”You... you...” Mrs. Jin said, face red.

”You what, you, get lost! If you dare show up in front of my stall again, I’ll break your legs!”

The bun stall guy yelled a few more times at Mrs. Jin.

Mrs. Jin held her backside and ran off in disgrace.

Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng had watched the scene for a while without understanding a thing.

”Do you think my aunt has gone mad? Leaving a good life in the Capital, why imitate a beggar? Or did my uncle abandon her?” Mu Shuangshuang laughed.

In fact, at this moment, Mu Shuangshuang felt a bit secretly pleased.

In the Old Mu Family, except for Mu Danian and Mrs. Jin, everyone else was openly bad.

But Mrs. Jin and Mu Danian were the type who schemed in secret, impossible to guard against.

At first, they tricked her father into signing a so-called selling contract, which made him bedridden for half a year.

Later, they almost destroyed the fourth branch.

Outwardly they seemed friendly and noble, but secretly, they were full of treachery!

Seeing her current state, Mu Shuangshuang thought it was divine justice.

”I think it’s not that simple. Your... aunt seems to have not eaten for days; she walks unsteadily,” Lu Yuanfeng frowned.

He glanced at Mrs. Jin and, for some reason, remembered her elegant appearance in the village which starkly contrasted her current beggar look.

”Of course, seeing her like this, I guess she hasn’t eaten for at least three days.” Mu Shuangshuang held up three fingers.

”But I’m still curious why she’s here. Even if my uncle abandoned her, she could return home.”

No matter how she thought, Mu Shuangshuang couldn’t make sense of it.

With groceries bought from the market, Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng continued to follow Mrs. Jin for a while.

Afraid of being discovered, the two only dared to follow stealthily.

It was beyond Mu Shuangshuang’s imagination that someone as proud as Mrs. Jin would fight stray dogs for half a bun.

”Fengzi... look...” Mu Shuangshuang pointed at Mrs. Jin not far away.

Probably starving and with her appearance like this, Mrs. Jin lost any prestige of a scholar’s wife.

Mrs. Jin had walked half the length of the market when a child tossed half a bun on the ground. Mrs. Jin looked at it, drooling.

At this point, a stray dog fiercely eyed the half bun.

Starving and filled with hatred toward Mu Dade and Ruan Xiao Jiao, Mrs. Jin picked up a stone and hurled it with all her might at the dog’s head.

The dog yelped and ran off!

As for Mrs. Jin, she successfully grabbed the bun and quickly gobbled it down, dirty as it was.

But soon, she clutched her throat, making choking sounds.

Seemed she was choking.

Mu Shuangshuang recalled the day she crossed over, when the third branch almost got turned over by Old Mrs. Mu and Mrs. Lin because of half a bun.

To think, they survived such bitter days.

Mrs. Jin was lucky. After choking for a while, she finally swallowed the stuck bun.

After resting briefly, she got up from the ground.

Her eyes were terrifying, a mix of hatred and malice.

Mu Shuangshuang watched Mrs. Jin leave, and when the street was clear of her, she finally spoke: ”Let’s go! Whatever’s going on, we’ll probably only find out after spring when my uncle’s exam results come out, and he returns.”

Mu Shuangshuang wasn’t a saint. She wouldn’t rush to help those who had wronged her before.

No matter how destitute Mrs. Jin was, it had nothing to do with Mu Shuangshuang, not worth a copper coin.

Returning the same way, they headed to their small courtyard.

Mu Shuangshuang knocked on the door, and after a while, Da Wu’s wife came to open it.

Seeing two familiar faces, Da Wu’s wife was thrilled.

”Oh my, why are you two here? We’ve finished lunch. Why don’t you wait a bit? I’ll cook for you right away.”

Saying this, Da Wu’s wife was about to head to the kitchen.

She called into the house: ”Daya, your Aunt Shuangshuang and Uncle Fengzi are here...”

Soon after, Daya came out, her eyes red as if she had been crying.

In the unfamiliar environment, the little girl wasn’t as comfortable as in Shigou Town.

She cried several times, wanting to return.

With her brother also staying in the countryside, Daya made an even bigger fuss. She was just talking to Da Wu’s wife about going back.

Seeing this, Mu Shuangshuang stopped Da Wu’s wife, ”Sister-in-law, no need to trouble yourself. Fengzi and I bought groceries, we’ll cook ourselves. You can spend more time with Daya, she’s not that little anymore; you can’t always suppress her.”

Mu Shuangshuang said.

Da Wu’s wife felt embarrassed but thought children’s reactions were normal.

Everyone adjusts to new environments; crying and fussing, it’ll pass, no big deal.

”It’s okay, Miss Shuangshuang, let me help!” Da Wu’s wife insisted.

Mu Shuangshuang repeatedly declined, saying Lu Yuanfeng would help her with the cooking.

Only then did Da Wu’s wife relent.

This time, the two had bought a lot of groceries.

Enough for two meals; they cooked a portion and left the rest for the Sun Family.

The kitchen pots and pans were left by previous shopkeepers, even the rice in the bin and oil in the jug were brought over by Mu Shuangshuang and Lu Yuanfeng from the restaurant.

When the restaurant closed, the former shopkeeper didn’t take anything.

Anything usable, Mu Shuangshuang kept.

A simple stir-fried vegetable dish, a meat soup, and two flatbreads made up their improvised lunch.
