The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 122: Chapter 122: I Am Inferior

Xia Wenjin said: ”This kind of thing depends on luck!”

Their voices were very low, and they spoke quickly. The other incense guests had no idea what they were discussing. They only saw the two of them speaking lightly and smiling softly, as if they truly didn’t take the matter of early death to heart, and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. After all, they were young and didn’t believe in such superstitions!

Some of the incense guests who had already received their fortune-telling remained there, while others gradually dispersed. As Master Ming Qing announced the conclusion, some people directly got up to consult with Masters Ming Qing and Ming Xi about Buddhist Law, since these few individuals held a transcendent status in the temple, rarely seen on ordinary days.

Many even came directly for Kong Chan, but Kong Chan had left earlier on.

Suddenly, Xia Wenjin stood up, and Huangfu Jingchen asked, ”Where are you going?”

Xia Wenjin turned back with a smile and said, ”This opportunity is so rare, of course we should take the chance to learn a bit more about Buddhist Law, otherwise wouldn’t it be like entering a treasure mountain and leaving empty-handed?”

Huangfu Jingchen pondered for a moment, smiled, and said, ”Together!”

The two of them headed toward the four masters, including Ming Cheng.

Their target was clear; they went straight for Abbott Ming Cheng.

Master Ming Cheng had just finished explaining a Buddhist verse to an incense guest. Seeing Huangfu Jingchen and Xia Wenjin, he proactively said, ”Do the two young benefactors have something to inquire about?”

When several people turned to look, they recognized them as the ones whom Master Kong Chan had previously predicted an early death for. Given Master Ming Cheng’s personal invitation, they made way for them.

Xia Wenjin approached confidently, brought her hands together, and performed a Buddhist salute, saying: ”Greetings, Master. We indeed have some confusions and wish to inquire!”

The crowd thought these two young people must not believe what Master Kong Chan said and were coming to seek verification from Master Ming Cheng. They were curious to listen, each either retreating or stepping forward, surrounding them not far away.

Master Ming Cheng’s face was gaunt, skin clinging directly to bones, and his eye sockets deeply sunken, looking quite different from the chiefs of the West Hall and Rear Hall, a striking contrast.

Yet his eyes were gentle as he said, ”Please speak, benefactor!”

Xia Wenjin scrutinized him with her gaze, and although such scrutiny might seem impolite, Master Ming Cheng didn’t mind at all, remaining calm.

Xia Wenjin said: ”Master, your body is emaciated, eyes sunken, and malnourished even worse than those famine victims. Is it possible Master is ill?”

Ming Cheng was slightly startled. He originally thought Xia Wenjin had a question about Buddhist Law, not expecting her focus to be this. After a brief pause, he smiled lightly and shook his head, saying, ”Benefactor misunderstood; what I practice is Suffer Zen. The method of Suffer Zen differs from other practices; it involves starving the body, tormenting the will, diligence resulting in thriftiness, hence the slightly weak body and empty frame. It’s no problem!”

Xia Wenjin curiously asked, ”Shian Temple is flourishing, why does Master practice Suffer Zen?”

Ming Cheng smiled lightly and said, ”Shian Temple has always had a lineage of Suffer Zen. I’ve practiced for half my life, with a peaceful mind and steady breath, I’ve gained deep insights into the Buddhist Law.”

Xia Wenjin asked no more, realizing that what seemed like suffering in her eyes was enlightenment through Suffer Zen in his.

However, out of so many forms of practice, his choice of Suffer Zen and persistence in quiet meditation made Xia Wenjin reconsider her earlier assumptions.

After a slight pause, she asked, ”Does Master often discuss Buddhist Law with Master Kong Chan?”

Ming Cheng folded his hands, with a look of admiration briefly flashing through his calm eyes, and replied, ”Uncle Master Kong Chan’s understanding of Buddhist Law is profound, far beyond mine!”

Xia Wenjin couldn’t help but be taken aback. For Master Ming Cheng, who is willing to undertake Suffer Zen for so many years, transforming himself into a ghostly figure, this demonstrates extreme devotion to Buddhist Law.

The saying that monks do not lie, a principle lived by considering his position and status.

Yet he claimed Master Kong Chan’s understanding of Buddhist Law was profound?

Moreover, his eyes and tone did not seem deceptive.

Could Mo Qingfeng be casting an Enchanting Spell on people?

If say he cast the Enchanting Spell on others, it would be fine, but the person before him, right in the bustling temple, could resist all temptations and live barely on the threshold of survival, how firm must his mind be? For someone like this, seeking only enlightenment in Buddhist Law, could an Enchanting Spell even work on him?

Xia Wenjin rolled her eyes and said, ”Master, Master Kong Chan is from Bodhi Temple. I’ve admired him for a long time. May I ask him about Buddhist Law privately?”

Ming Cheng hesitated for a moment and remained silent.

At this moment, Ming Qing immediately said, ”Benefactor, many wish to seek advice from Uncle Master Kong Chan. I have already sent posts inside, and Master Kong Chan will select those with fate among them. If the benefactor has fate, naturally you can. The Master has already spread the word; today, he will choose three fated individuals. Benefactor, why not wait a moment!”

Xia Wenjin raised an eyebrow, indeed quite the figure.

However, seeing the previous scenario, clearly, the title of the High Monk of Bodhi Temple has added much allure to his presence, even though he predicted early death for two people right off, many still sought him for answers.

But could a fake guru truly offer enlightenment?

Xia Wenjin expressed doubt.

Before long, a little monk came over to relay the message to Ming Qing, saying Master Kong Chan had chosen the fated individuals, and Ming Qing called over the two incense guests waiting outside. Both didn’t take long inside; one came out with a face full of joy, another with perplexity.

At that moment, the little monk came out again with a message, and Ming Qing smiled at Xia Wenjin, saying, ”Indeed, the benefactor is a fated one. Uncle Master Kong Chan invites you in!”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”I’ll go with you!”

Ming Qing shook his head, saying, ”The benefactor is not among those Uncle Master Kong Chan selected as fated individuals, please wait outside for a while!”

Xia Wenjin, unconcerned, said to him, ”You head back first, I’ll return soon.”

The words ”head back” struck a chord with Huangfu Jingchen, and he silently nodded, saying, ”Alright.”

Xia Wenjin followed the little monk inside, heading to the same place as last night where Kong Chan resides. However, there is quite a difference between secretly venturing over the rooftops at night and walking with dignity during the day.

When they reached outside of Kong Chan’s Zen Hall, the little monk stopped, joined his hands together, and let Xia Wenjin enter on her own.

Xia Wenjin swaggered into the Zen Hall, and the courtyard was as silent as the previous night, the large yard and three Zen rooms suggesting no one else but Kong Chan was present.

Upon reaching the second room, its door open, Kong Chan was meditating on a cushion, hands together, with a solemn and majestic posture!

She couldn’t help but chuckle and teased, ”Master, I didn’t expect to be one of the fated ones!”

Kong Chan opened his eyes and rolled them, saying, ”Close the door!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Is rolling your eyes supposed to be impressive? Especially with his current demeanor.

Still, she closed the door.

Kong Chan immediately removed his eyebrows and beard, leaped up from the cushion, peeled off wrinkles and disguises, and returned to sit casually on the cushion, now revealing the carefree Mo Qingfeng.

Taking out a small box from his sleeve, he smugly said, ”Here, it’s for you!”
