Regression - Second Chance At Life

Chapter 239: It’s A Date

Adam looks incredibly focused as he stares intently at the screen of his computer, as if he were the most important thing in the world.

But it’s just a video of a cat slowly sneaking up on a bunch of pigeons until it sprints at one of them, and even though as those pigeons try to fly away, they can’t match the speed, athleticism, and accuracy of a simple house cat.

It digs its claws into one of them, bites the pigeon with its fangs, and successfully brings it down.

”Cats ready are fucking insane...” Adam says. He has always liked cats because of their behavior, attitude, and ability to thrive on their own; no matter their size, they always dominate the ecosystem in which they live.

Adam will strive to be like a cat, live for himself, and be very successful at it.

That is when his phone buzzes.

”Who’s messaging me this time?” Adam questions and takes his phone out to find a message from the Isla girl.

’It’s her,’ he thinks. He had completely forgotten about her as he was busy with other things.

Though Isla is beautiful and Adam would love to hang out with her and mess around, he wouldn’t have been affected whether she reached out to him or not.

On occasion, he might have recalled the band girl who approached him, but would quickly move on from it, as he has an abundance of beautiful women in his life.

[Hey... It’s meeee.] The message reads, which makes Adam smile, amused. She should have at least said her name in the message. What if he had not saved her name when he had taken her number?

[Hey, I was just thinking about you, glad that you reached out.] Adam types back, lying. It’s a philosophy as old as time: people tend to like you more if they know you liked them back.

Adam lying about thinking about her would only make Isla like Adam even more, as her feelings are being validated by Adam’s claim of mutual attraction he feels towards her.

Seeing Adam text her back and reading that he has been thinking about her as well makes Isla feel butterflies in her stomach.

[Why were you thinking about me?] She asks, as she can’t help but be curious about why Adam is thinking about her right now. Has he been thinking about her all this time? If so, why didn’t he reach out? Was he having the same mental struggle as she did because of Suzaan’s comments?

She had so many questions in mind and so many things she wanted to talk to Adam about.

She didn’t know why this man had been stuck in her head, but she didn’t care because thinking about him made her feel good.

Reading her message, Adam smirks as he tries to come up with another lie. ’A thousand lies to hide a lie,’ But Adam has something better in mind; instead of lying a thousand times, he will just change the topic and let her forget about it.

[I was practicing Piano, it was one of your songs I heard at the concert] Adam lies again, but this time he left something in the lie for Isla to hook onto.

[You play piano?] Isla asks, just like Adam expected. Being a singer and a musician, how could she not be curious to hear that the man she likes also plays music?

[It’s a hobby that I picked up a while ago,] Adam types

[I would love to hear you play sometimes], Isla answers. She is pretty excited to learn that Adam plays music, as now they have something in common with each other

[I am not that good, I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of someone as good as you], Adam says, lying again, but these lies have no impact as he is just being humble right now.

Adam only needs to listen to music once to perfectly recreate it; his perfect pitch, photographic memory, both mental and muscular, make him the ultimate copy machine.

He would love to see the face of Isla when he plays her a few songs; he wonders how a musician would react to one of his songs.

[I would still love to hear you play], Isla answers back.

It has been clear from the very start that Isla likes him very much, and since she is beautiful, Adam doesn’t mind it one bit.

So, reading her message, Adam decides to step on the gas and take her for himself. Why waste time teasing her when he has nothing to gain from it other than prolonging the pleasure that awaits him?

[Then how this? Let’s go on a date tomorrow, then come back to my place so that you can hear me play] Adam suggests.

Isla, who is lying on her bed, suddenly sits up straight, reading the message Adam just sent. Her face flushed red while her heart started beating with excitement once again.

’A date...’ She thought. She would love to go on a date with Adam.

She didn’t even think for a second before replying, [I would love to go on a date with you.] She says, but then she remembers something.

She and her team were supposed to go and visit the victims of the kidnapping that happened at their concert. Looking at her reply, in which she already agreed to the date, Isla finds herself in a massive dilemma.

She really wants to go on this date with Adam, but then again, she can’t miss this meeting as it can ruin their band’s reputation.

Isla bites her lip, frustrated.

[At what time?] She asks, thinking maybe she can fulfil both the promises.

[7 PM] Adam replies.

Seeing the time Adam suggested, Isla feels a little frustrated. Even though the meeting would be done by then, she won’t have enough time to come back to her place and get ready for her date.

If she is going on a date with Adam, then she wants to look her best.

[Can we delay it for maybe another hour?] Isla asks.

Adam reads the message and concludes that she might have other things to do, but she is still willing to go on a date with him.

[Sure, how about 8:30,] Adam suggests, giving her an extra half an hour.

[That will do! I will meet you at 8:30, but where?] She asks, wanting to know the place of their meetup. She plans to schedule her day around the date so that she doesn’t arrive late and leave a bad impression on Adam.

[Don’t worry about that, I will pick you up at your place, just send me your address,] Adam replies.

Reading his reply, Isla sighs with relief, as it will give her some more time to prepare.

[Okay... Great, it’s a date then] Isla says.

[It’s a date], Adam replies.

Reading his last message, Isla takes a deep breath and falls back on her bed before squirming around with excitement. Even she can’t believe how happy she is right now.

She is glad that Adam asked her on a date because she knew she didn’t have it in her to ask Adam out; the fear of rejection from Adam was too scary a thought for her.

”What’s going on? Why are you so excited?” Suzaan walks in with a towel wrapped around her body as she has just finished taking a shower.

”I have a date with Adam tomorrow,” Isla says to her excitedly.

Suzaan scrunches her brows, hearing this.

”Did you forget that we have scheduled a meeting with the victims of the kidnapping tomorrow?” Suzaan asks.

”No, I didn’t forget. The date is at 8:30, and by then the meeting should be over. I will just have to rush back here and prepare myself for the date,” Isla says with determination.

Suzaan sees her friend’s determination and realizes how serious Isla is being right now.

”So it’s really happening?” Suzaan says. She can’t believe Isla is finally going on a date with a man after so many years.

”Yes, I can’t wait. Do you know that he is a musician as well!” Isla says excitedly.

”He is a musician? Are you sure he isn’t lying?” Suzaan asks, What are the chances that Isla falls for a random man in the crowd during their concert who also happens to be a musician.

”Well, I am just exaggerating. He said he knows how to play piano, he said he picked it up as a hobby recently,” Isla says.

Suzaan stares at her friend like an idiot.

”You just called him a musician even though he only picked up playing piano recently?” Suzaan asks in a mocking tone.

”So what? We all started as beginners, right? What’s to say he won’t go on to become the most famous piano player in the world?” Isla asks.

Suzaan can’t believe the words coming out of Isla’s mouth. She is already putting this man, who hasn’t even kissed her, on a pedestal

”Are you hearing yourself? How old is he? 18-19? There is no way he can become the best piano player in the world. You do realize that to be the best, you need to start playing very young, like 7 or 8 years old,” Suzaan says.

Suzaan is definitely making sense, and Isla knows it, but she really wants to defend Adam, but the musician in her agrees with her friend, so she decides to keep quiet.

Suzaan notices the frustration in Isla’s face and chuckles, seeing how cute Isla looks right now.

”He is really lucky that he gets the chance to go on a date with you. But if he breaks your heart, I am going to make sure that he pays for it!” Suzaan says, as she is very protective of Isla.

”Don’t worry, I know he won’t,” Isla says because she believes it’s fate that brought her and Adam together.
