THE GOD EATER

They were 4 each from the Nexus of Truth Sect, Martial Body Sect, and Sword Way Sect. The remaining 9 came from the Myriad Phenomenon Sect.

The ones from the same sect were generally close to each other, but there was also considerable distance between all of them. They were mostly naked too, but this didn’t matter.

After all, Loki was naked too. Plus, they didn’t care about things like nakedness and beauty.

The 21 Rank 8 cultivators looked at him with trepidation clear in their eyes. Their posture was stiff, and they were actively trying not to think.

The Dao Lords above weren’t interfering with the area with their Divine Spirit, so these cultivators weren’t being forced to stand frozen and unmoving. They chose to remain still like prey before a predator, so as not to draw his ire.

After inspecting them, he smiled and said, ”There is no need for you to be afraid. I have sworn an oath to your Dao Lords that I wouldn’t hurt you intentionally. That’s why they felt assured enough to let me see you.”

”You should know just how important you are to your Dao Lords. They need each of you to provide them with ten thousand years of lifespan every ten years.”

”For those of you who have been alive for at least a thousand years, it means that you’ve provided at least a million years of lifespan to your Dao Lords. That’s commendable work,” he said, clapping slowly.

He was praising them, but none of them let it get to their heads. They were trying to hide it, but he could still see in their minds that they didn’t believe his praise and didn’t care about it either way.

They didn’t believe that he was truly praising them with sincerity, and even if he was, they didn’t care for his sincere praise. Instead, they were more concerned about what bad things he called them here for.

One of them even thought, ’I wonder how he is going to screw us over.’

The Rank 8 cultivator immediately regretted the thought and quickly pushed it from their mind. When they saw that he didn’t look at them and didn’t seem to have noticed the disrespectful thought, they sighed in relief inwardly.

’That was close,’ they thought in relief. ’It is good that he didn’t notice, or I would be screwed.’

He did notice the thought. He just didn’t care. In fact, he felt that it was good that the Rank 8 cultivators feared, respected, and resented Dao Lords.

So he continued smiling as he said, ”Clearly, you work hard for your Dao Lords. But how have they treated you?”

No one said anything, but their thoughts all boiled with anger, resentment, and hatred for Dao Lords. This was good enough for him, so he didn’t pressure them to speak.

He looked at them one by one as he said, ”You were prevented from having more than four Divine Positions and reaching your full potential. That way you wouldn’t be able to advance to Rank 9 and escape their control.”

”If you somehow advanced to Rank 9, you will be eaten and your Supreme Metac taken from you. That is your fate, and do you know why?”

This time, he didn’t wait for them to think of a reply before he said, ”Because you’re slaves.”

His words didn’t incite anger or resentment in them this time. Instead, they felt fear about what his purpose might be.

Their fear shot through the roof when he pointed to the sky at the Dao Lords, who were watching them, as he said: ”You’re their slaves, and that’s the best way to put it.”

”To put it in a more literal sense, you’re animals, and your sects are the farms you live in. The farm raised you and expects you to lay eggs for it every day. When the day comes that you can no longer lay eggs, you will be slaughtered.”

”As if that isn’t bad enough, look at what happened to your fellow divine beings from the Four Directions Sect. Where are they now?” he asked with a solemn voice.

”The Four Directions Sect used to be the largest in the Sea of Worlds, with the highest number of divine beings and Rank 8 cultivators. I asked around and learned that the Four Directions Sect used to have 20 Rank 8 divine beings.”

”There were five pathways in four super worlds, each producing one Rank 8 cultivator. Yet, here we are with no Rank 8 cultivator of the Four Directions Sect in sight.”

”Do you remember Money Body? Where is he now?” he asked with a mocking grin.

”Money Body is dead because his Dao Lord killed him. You should know this. But I know that you’re desensitized to deaths, so I want you to take note of how and why Money Body died.”

”He didn’t die because he failed to produce enough lifespan to pay for his Life Leech. He was still a fertile chicken producing eggs for the farm. But he was still killed because the farmer didn’t want him to be taken away after losing the farm.”

Then he pointed at them and said, ”That is your fate.”

”No matter how hard you work, you can still be butchered by the farmers at any moment. It is because you’re weak and your fate isn’t in your hands.”

”But I have a way to change your fate,” he stated with certainty.

This statement was like a stone tossed into a lake. It caused ripples in the emotions and minds of the Rank 8 cultivators. Even the Dao Lords were affected.

Most of the Rank 8 cultivators were now confused. They didn’t know what to feel, as they didn’t know what he was up to. Something like this had never happened before, so they didn’t know whether to expect something good or bad.

But the Dao Lords above were sure that whatever plan he had in mind wasn’t going to be good.
