THE GOD EATER

That seer had gone mad for hearing voices and seeing things that weren’t there. Then that seer had died when their Cave Heaven shattered.

Now that her Divine Metac was telling her that there were unseen powerful beings around her, she decided that it was a wise idea to narrow the search and refine the hook. So she began to search for a deceiver that is nearby and is between rank 8 to rank 6.

This time, her hook got something. She discovered that there was indeed a deceiver nearby. Unfortunately, she still couldn’t see the deceiver. She could only confirm that the deceiver had been with them for a long time.

When she told Many Eyes about this, he cursed out, saying, ”Those fuckers. They are always trying to steal my worlds.”

Then he said angrily to Star Divination, ”You claim your eyes are great, yet you missed a deceiver following us for so long. What did I hire you for if this is your best performance?”

Star Divination retorted angrily, saying, ”You hired me because my eyes are better than yours. If your eyes were better, you wouldn’t have hired me.”

”Besides, it is not my fault that I missed the deceiver. He is too strong and the path of deceit was meant to fool even us.”

Even now that the deceiver had been exposed and was fighting the thief, they still couldn’t see the deceiver. So Many Eyes couldn’t blame her too much for missing the deceiver.

Many Eyes also couldn’t refute her claim that he had hired her because her eyes were better than his. The fact that she could determine that there was a deceiver nearby while he couldn’t was proof of this.

With this kind of performance, he should be appreciative of her skill. But when he remembered that the thief was also able to sense the hidden deceiver and fight that deceiver, he realized that he had underestimated the power of the thief, and she was partially at fault for this.

So instead of praising her, he shouted at her, saying, ”And what is your excuse for why the thief is so strong. I thought you said that the thief was weak.”

”You claimed that the thief was something we should be able to handle. This doesn’t look like something we can handle. In fact, it looks like something we must stay far away from.”

She retorted, saying, ”I said the thief ran away from Money Armor. You were the one who claimed that the thief was weaker than Money Armor and that we should be able to handle him.”

But Many Eyes was having none of her lies. He clenched his fist and raised his voice as he said, ”You should be ashamed that you made an inaccurate prediction. Now you’re lying about it. Are you not ashamed enough? What more embarrassing things do you want to be accused of before you die?”

He was clearly angry at her for putting them in this situation, but she remained unapologetic about the whole thing. After he was done speaking, she snorted and said, ”It seems you don’t care for your life, or you would be running away with all of your energy instead of expending energy to put the blame on me.”

Just as Many Eyes was about to tell her that he could run perfectly well while blaming her, they heard the dark shadow that the thief was fighting say, ”Come and help me, you fools. If we scatter like this, he will pick us off one by one.”

Many Eyes was taken aback when he heard this. His voice was full of disbelief as he said, ”What do you mean by ’we’ and ’us’? Since when did we become a group?”

The deceiver sneered and said in reply, ”Do you think he will let you go when he is done with me? If I die, all of you will die.”

”Besides, I am far, far weaker than he is, so I am easier to deal with than he is. So it is a better idea to work with me to defeat him, or we would be done for.”

He made some points, so Many Eyes was considering his suggestion seriously. It was difficult to make a decision, but it became easier to decide when Star Divination provided her suggestion.

She said, ”When you’re being chased by a predator in most cases, you don’t need to outrun the predator. You only need to outrun other prey.”

”So if we run while the thief kills the deceiver, we should be able to escape. Besides, you would be asking to be deceived if you think it is a good idea to believe a word that comes out of the lips of a deceiver.”

He thought that her words made a lot of sense. Besides, there were three of them aside from the deceiver, and the three of them had scattered in different directions. So even if the deceiver were to die now and the thief came after them, he would only have a 33% chance of being killed next.

With a 66% of surviving, he felt good about his chances. So Many Eyes made up his mind to let the deceiver hold up the thief while they escape.

He was about to say something along that line of thought when he heard the thief say, ”Don’t believe this rat. I won’t kill all of you.”

”I will kill only three of you. As for you, Many Eyes, I will let you go as long as you tell me the location of all of your worlds. How about that?”

When Many Eyes heard this, what he was going to say about how the deceiver was on his own died in his throat. Instead, he said, ”Damn it.”

Then he turned around to join the fight against the thief. As he rushed back, he said, ”To think there would be a day that I would fight on the same side as a deceiver.”
