The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 248: Chapter 168: Key Points of the Case!

The conference room door just opened.

Jiang An saw that the room was already full of people.

Everyone was in crisp police uniforms, looking very spirited.

As soon as the three entered the conference room, applause like thunder erupted.

However, some people in the room started whispering to each other.

Some even shook their heads unintentionally upon seeing the three young faces.

Mr Li guided the three to their seats.

Once the applause slightly subsided, Mr Li began speaking: ”First, let me introduce the criminal investigation expert from Jiangcheng City.”

”This is Jiang An, the famed criminal investigation expert from Jiangcheng City Bureau. Comrade Jiang An’s case-solving ability is outstanding, showing remarkable achievements. Just a month into the job, he was appointed as the head of the sharp knife team for homicide investigations.”

”Though Group Leader Jiang An is a forensic doctor, he is not limited to that field.”

”Scene investigation, offender profiling, interrogation practice, and criminal psychological analysis are all areas he excels in.”

”Today, we are fortunate to have invited Group Leader Jiang An from Jiangcheng to Han City; it’s a rare opportunity.”

”I propose another round of applause to sincerely welcome Jiang An and the other two comrades.”

Instantly, the room resounded with enthusiastic applause once more.

Everyone focused their gaze on Jiang An.

Subsequently, Mr Li nodded to Mr. Zhao.

”Please report the basic details of the case to Group Leader Jiang.”

Mr. Zhao immediately stood up.

”Mr Li, understood! I will give the three criminal investigation experts from Jiangcheng an overview of the case details right away.”

Ten seconds later, the projector screen revealed the report’s table of contents.

”1. Report of the situation upon receiving the call”

”2. Situation of the scene investigation”

”3. Situation of the autopsy”

”4. Situation of the circumferential investigation”

Without delay, Mr. Zhao began introducing the case using a laser pointer.

”This case occurred a month and a half ago, on June 18, in the rural area of Hanxi District, Han City.”

”The deceased were an elderly couple, the male aged 75, and the female aged 74.”

”The couple lived together, with their children residing elsewhere; they usually grew some vegetables and fruits and kept a few chickens, ducks, and geese.”

”According to the preliminary report materials, on the morning of June 18, a neighbor knocked on their door to borrow a weeding tool.”

”However, despite knocking for a long time, nobody answered the door.”

”Subsequently, the neighbor found another neighbor, and together, they opened the door.”

”Upon opening, they discovered the elderly couple dead inside.”

”They quickly called the police.”

”After receiving the report, the Hanxi Police Station immediately reported to the criminal investigation team.”

”I then led the forensic and scene investigation team to the site for investigation.”

At this point, Mr. Zhao pressed the laser pointer and said: ”This is an image of the main scene.”

Jiang An looked up at the projector and saw it was a residence with three tiled rooms and a separate courtyard.

Mr. Zhao explained: ”According to the reporting party, the courtyard gate was closed at the time.”

”There’s a latch behind the courtyard gate, which the elderly usually closed from the back at night.”

”The courtyard gate is only about 1 meter high, so structurally, it’s relatively open.”

Then Mr. Zhao moved the mouse to display the next photo.

”This is the photo taken after opening the living room door.”

”In the northeast corner of the living room lay an elderly man dressed in shorts.”

”The elderly man’s hair was grizzled, and his body had many bloodstains.”

The next photo showed the bedroom.

”Beside the bed in the bedroom lay an elderly woman on the ground.”

”The elderly woman had a wound on her head, with her clothes stained with large amounts of blood.”

Seeing all this, Jiang An furrowed his brow slightly, contemplating internally.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zhao continued: ”On that day, we conducted a comprehensive and meticulous examination of the scene.”

”There were evident signs of disruption within the house, with property missing.”

”However, as the elderly couple had long been separated from their children, the children didn’t know exactly how much money they had.”

”Thus, it has not been determined how much money was lost.”

”Following the scene investigation, we conducted a full examination of the bodies.”

”Through the autopsy, we determined the cause of death for both deceased.”

”The elderly male’s cause of death was a pneumothorax due to rib fractures puncturing the lungs.”

”The elderly female’s cause of death was a head injury resulting in a fatal cranial and brain injury.”

”After determining the nature of the deaths, we conducted a thorough investigation of the village and surrounding area.

”However, no clues indicated any feuds with others during their lifetimes.”

”Regarding the theft of property inside the house, we focused our investigation on local individuals with prior theft records.”

”Unfortunately, we still have not found any suspicious criminal suspects.”

While Mr. Zhao was detailing the investigation process, two criminal investigators from Hong City brought over the thick dossier.

Jiang An glanced at the directory and found the dossier was extremely detailed.

It included not only scene investigation records and autopsy reports but also information from visits and interviews.

In Jiang An’s view, some investigations might have omissions or inaccuracies,

but original traces and physical evidence from the scene are the most objective and real.

He is a forensic doctor!

Since stepping into the field of forensic medicine, Jiang An has always upheld the sacred mission of speaking for the deceased.

The living might lie, but the dead do not!

His mission is to let the dead speak.

Immediately, Jiang An opened the case file and carefully examined the scene investigation photos.

At this moment.

Mr. Zhao elaborated on the preliminary investigation efforts.

Wan and Zhang Yean sat beside Jiang An.

Both were amazed at the extent of Han City’s criminal investigation efforts.

The detailed presentation on the PPT demonstrated the substantial effort Han City police had put into this area.

An hour later, the PPT showed the final page.

Mr. Zhao said solemnly: ”This concludes our related work on this case by Han City’s criminal investigation unit.”

”However, it is regrettable!”

”Despite so much work, there hasn’t been a significant breakthrough.”

”Therefore, today we’ve invited the three criminal investigation experts from Jiangcheng to diagnose the case and broaden our investigative thoughts.”

Finished speaking, Deputy Director Li Hongbing gently nodded.

Then, Li Hongbing glanced at Jiang An.

Jiang An was fully absorbed in the case photos.

Li Hongbing quietly asked: ”Group Leader Jiang, the basic situation of the preliminary phase has been presented.”

”Is there anything specific you would like to understand or inquire about?”

”Oh, so quickly!”

Li Hongbing’s words brought Jiang An’s thoughts back to the present.

”Then I’ll say a few words briefly.”

Instantly, attendees turned their attention toward Jiang An.

However, many did not pick up their pens to take notes.

Apart from Mr Li and some criminal investigation personnel who had high expectations of Jiang An, others saw the three were very young and did not hold too much hope.

After all, for detectives without gray or bald hair, they didn’t truly acknowledge them in their hearts.

They didn’t believe the three could bring much of a breakthrough to this case.

Jiang An glanced at the attendees and began: ”I just listened to the basic situation of this case.”

”My direct impression is that Han City’s criminal investigation made significant efforts, enduring a lot in handling this case.”

”Although the suspect hasn’t been apprehended, I believe no effort is wasted.”

”In terms of personal grudges or burglaries turning into robbery murders, although we haven’t identified a suspect, at least we can rule out these possibilities.”

”Your month-and-a-half of prior work will provide significant support for our subsequent case analysis.”

Upon hearing this opening, Mr Li’s previously furrowed brows eased slightly.

If it had started with criticism, his face would surely not look good.

Suddenly, his impression of the young Group Leader Jiang improved significantly.

This seemingly young leader is calm and seasoned at heart.

After a brief pause, Jiang An continued: ”Returning to the case itself, I find this case particularly complex.”

”On one hand, the case occurred in a rural area, where the densely distributed surveillance system isn’t available, a crucial investigative clue we can’t use.”

”On the other hand, the deceased’s residence wasn’t located within a village cluster, being at least two to three hundred meters from any neighboring house.”

”Therefore, once a crime occurs, the victims might not have the chance to call for help.”

”For the same reason, the criminal act could easily go unnoticed by surrounding neighbors.”

After pausing for a moment, Jiang An said seriously: ”However, returning to the case, I find this case to be particularly complex.”

”On one hand, the incident occurred in a rural area where there’s no dense surveillance like in urban areas.”

”On the other hand, the location of the residences is not clustered within the village, with at least two to three hundred meters separating the neighbors.”

”Thus, once a criminal act occurs, it might not be easy for neighbors to detect it, given the considerable distance.”

After pausing for a moment, Jiang An said in a deep voice: ”However, I believe that this very distance may have given the perpetrator confidence to act without fear of being discovered.”
