Chapter 226: Chapter 159: Low-Probability Event

”Hey, Mr. Jiang, why are the two of you here?”

Jiang An started speaking, ”Mr. Li, we’re here because of last night’s incident.”

”Last night’s incident?”

After a brief thought, Li Guang said, ”You mean the matter of the two skeletons at the scene?”

Jiang An nodded, his expression serious.

Li Guang looked at the two individuals, somewhat puzzled.

”Wasn’t this issue cleared up yesterday?”

Jiang An stepped forward and said, ”You are the only senior engineer we have in Jiangcheng City.”

”Your authority on gene testing and analysis is undeniable, and we absolutely trust you.”

”However, in this case, we found something very peculiar.”

”Something peculiar?”

Li Guang looked skeptical.

Jiang An continued, ”According to the results we discussed last night, these two bodies are highly likely to be related as father and daughter.”

”But we conducted an investigation this morning.”

”Neither Chen Minghao’s ex-wife nor his current wife has a child that matches the condition.”

Li Guang asked, ”Could it be a child born out of wedlock?”

Jiang An shook his head.

”Based on the information we currently have, this possibility is very small.”

For a moment, Li Guang froze in place.

Once again, the gene map from last night flashed in his mind.

According to Mendel’s laws of inheritance, genetic inheritance is continuous.

A child’s genes are half from the father and half from the mother.

This law has been practiced for many years and has never been wrong.

Could there be an error this time?

After contemplating for a long time, Li Guang spoke, ”Mr. Jiang, to be on the safe side, let’s return to the lab together and reinterpret the experimental map.”

Jiang An nodded.

”Then it will be troubling for Mr. Li.”

Immediately, the three of them walked into the lab together.

Meanwhile.

Li Jian and Wan arrived outside the small tavern.

The two stood by the roadside, looking around.

After a moment, Wan said, ”There are no surveillance cameras in this area.”

”However, I see a camera about 100 meters ahead on this road.”

Following Wan’s direction, Li Jian saw it.

”Although it’s a bit far, we should go over and take a look at it first.”

Immediately, the two jogged over to the camera’s location.

It was a storefront selling gold.

”Hello, we are officers from the Jiangcheng Police Team; we’d like to speak to your boss.”

The female staff at the counter seemed a bit surprised and said, ”Please wait a moment, I’ll call the boss and have her come down.”

Two minutes later, a woman wearing a qipao came over.

”Officers, what can I do for you?”

”We would like to access your store’s surveillance to check the footage at the entrance.”

”No problem! It’s our duty to cooperate with the police.”

The boss said promptly, ”Please follow me! The monitoring room is on the second floor.”

Soon, Li Jian and Wan reached the monitoring room on the second floor.

Again, it was Wan who took the initiative.

He moved the mouse, located the camera outside, adjusted the progress bar, and replayed the surveillance footage from around midnight the night before.

The surveillance camera was quite far away, making the faces look blurry, but the clothes were identifiable.

At 12:53, the couple left in a taxi.

At 1:30, Chen Minghao and four others walked to the entrance of the tavern.

The four friends left in a taxi.

At 1:35, a red sedan stopped in front of Chen Minghao.

He opened the passenger door and got in.

Seeing this, Li Jian felt excited, as if he saw hope for solving the case.

”Wan, can you enlarge the image so we can see the license plate?”

Wan moved the mouse and continued to operate the buttons.

Five minutes later, he said, ”Mr. Li, this is the maximum resolution.”

Li Jian said, ”That’s alright.”

”We’ll head to the traffic department right away to trace this car’s entire route.”

Soon, the two left and sped to the Jiangcheng traffic police team.

Traffic team leader Zhang Feng saw Li Jian and smiled, saying, ”Mr. Li! It’s rare to see you here.”

”What brings you here today?”

Li Jian smiled.

”No such thing as an idle trip, I came here today with a request.”

”Mr. Li, no need to be formal, just tell me what’s needed.”

Li Jian said, ”We want to track the route of a vehicle.”

”No problem, I’ll arrange it right away.”

”Great, thank you very much.”

Five minutes later, in the traffic monitoring room, Li Jian provided the vehicle’s color and location information.

Soon, engineer Zhang quickly located the red sedan.

He said, ”This car traveled north along Binzhou Avenue after leaving the tavern, and eventually entered the Minghao Clothing Factory.”

”At what time did it enter the factory?”

”Around 2:20 in the evening.”

Li Jian nodded, ”Can you find out the vehicle owner’s information?”

”Mr. Li, no problem!”

Two minutes later, Zhang was surprised and said, ”Mr. Li, this car has a fake license plate.”

”The license plate number is borrowed from a black Buick.”

”A fake plate?”

Li Jian then asked, ”Can you enlarge the photos of the driver inside the car?”

Zhang said, ”Mr. Li, it’s a bit difficult, please wait a moment.”

Then, he looked for high-resolution cameras along the route.

Indeed, at one intersection, the red sedan stopped at the crosswalk because of a red light.

The intersection’s camera captured the driver’s photo.

After extracting the image, Zhang said, ”Mr. Li, is this image quality satisfactory for you?”

Li Jian leaned in to take a look.

Immediately, he took out his phone and opened the cranial reconstruction photo sent to him by Jiang An.

”It’s an exact match.”

Wan also looked curious.

He took Li Jian’s phone and examined it closely.

”Indeed! It’s this woman.”

At this moment.

Jiang An, Zhang Yean, and Li Guang were in the gene laboratory.

Although very confident about yesterday’s experiment data and analysis results, Li Guang, adhering to the principle of scientific rigor, reviewed the experimental data once again.

After a ”ding,” Li Guang rose to the computer.

”The experiment data has been re-verified.”

He opened the experiment map and glanced at it.

”The data hasn’t changed; it’s the same as yesterday’s analysis results.”

Jiang An nodded after listening.

”Thank you, Mr. Li.”

”This makes it even more troublesome. The experimental data is correct, so where does the error lie?”

Zhang Yean looked puzzled.

”Could it be that Chen Minghao really has a child born out of wedlock, and his wife just doesn’t know?”

Li Guang also said, ”According to the laws of inheritance I know, sharing half the same genes adequately demonstrates a blood relationship across generations.”

”I think what Zhang Yean said could very well be the situation.”

”Because only this fits Mendel’s law of inheritance.”

Suddenly, Jiang An recalled the process of interacting with Li Na earlier.

Although the two were divorced, Li Na was still very familiar with Chen Minghao.

Jiang An found what Li Na said quite credible.

Suddenly, in Jiang An’s mind flashed a study analysis report on identical twins browsed in the WanFang Database.

Instantly, he had a bold idea.

”Mr. Li, do you think it’s possible that Chen Minghao has an identical twin brother?”

As soon as he uttered the words, Li Guang fell into thought.

”From a genetic perspective, if they are identical twins, it means the genetic makeup is entirely identical, so the genes transmitted to the next generation could also be identical.”

After a moment, Li Guang nodded.

”Mr. Jiang, there could be such a situation.”

”However, the probability of identical twins is very small.”

Jiang An said, ”Regardless of the probability, once it happens, it’s 100%.”

Then he said, ”This matter isn’t complex to verify.”

Zhang Yean curiously asked, ”How do we verify it?”

Jiang An brought out a notebook and found Li Na’s number.

”Ms Li! Hello, I’m Jiang An from Jiangcheng’s criminal police, I visited you this morning.”

”Hello, is there any matter you need?”

”I’d like to ask, does your ex-husband Chen Minghao have any brothers?”

After a short pause, Li Na said, ”He had a brother, but he was abducted when he was very young.”

On hearing this, Jiang An’s heartbeat began to race.
