Nexus Ascension: My Comprehension Defies the Heaven

Chapter 281: Days passed in a blink

As Grey sank into the trance, the outside world ceased to exist.

Nothing remained.

His comprehension ability had fully activated, and his entire consciousness was devoted to the unfamiliar technique before him. This was not a technique of flesh, energy, or space.

It was a technique of the soul.

Something completely foreign to him.

He dissected it layer by layer. Soul structures, resonance patterns, spirit segmentation, causal feedback. Each concept unfolded naturally, connecting to something deeper within his understanding.

And just like that.

Time passed.

Days slipped by without resistance.

Nearly fifteen days passed in what felt like a blink.

Then, a familiar presence surfaced.

[YOUR COMPREHENSION DEFIES THE HEAVENS! By observing a rune containing a peak three star soul technique, you have successfully comprehended Nine Spirit Soul Search!]

[YOU HAVE GAINED INSIGHT INTO THE LAW OF CAUSALITY!]

Clarity returned instantly.

Grey exhaled deeply as his eyes opened, excitement flickering across his face.

”I’m done!”

”What did you just say?!”

Xia Qingyue, who had been lazily reclining nearby, jolted upright in shock.

”You comprehended it?!” Her eyes widened. ”That technique?!”

She stared at him in disbelief.

”But it’s only been fifteen days!”

For a brief moment, Xia Qingyue genuinely did not know how to react.

”What?” Grey froze. ”It’s been fifteen days?”

His own confusion mirrored hers.

”Why did it take me fifteen days?”

Only now did he realize what had happened.

While in the trance, he had completely lost his sense of time. His focus had been absolute, his awareness locked solely on unraveling the technique’s mysteries.

Fifteen days.

Had really passed.

Wasn’t that absurd?

During that period, he had received countless communications from the infernals through his interface. But to him, it had all felt like the same day. The mind interface did not function inside the secret realm, blurring the flow of time even further.

Grey rubbed his temples slowly.

”You...” Xia Qingyue stared at Grey, not knowing whether she should laugh or cry. ”Just what do you eat every day for your comprehension to be this ridiculous?”

She took a breath and continued, forcing herself to calm down.

”The Nine Spirit Soul Search is a technique primarily used by espers,” she said seriously. ”It is most commonly practiced by powerful third rank espers. Only someone at that level can withstand the mental and spiritual pressure it places on the soul.”

She shook her head slightly.

”This technique is directly tied to the soul. Comprehending it blindly, without the proper foundation, can easily take several years.”

Then she added, almost grudgingly, ”Even I needed five years of closed door seclusion to fully comprehend it.”

Her words carried weight.

”And the fastest person I’ve ever known to comprehend it faster than me was my senior brother,” she continued. ”Even he took two and a half years.”

Xia Qingyue took a deep breath before finishing.

”Yet you did it in fifteen days.”

She looked at Grey as if trying to confirm he was real.

”At this point, calling your comprehension abnormal doesn’t even begin to describe it.”

”Usually starting from the 3rd rank, techniques for the 3rd rankers become harder to comprehened, this is because such a technique are derived directely from rules. which themselves originate from laws.”

”This is why a 3-star technique is increasingly heaven-defying and break normal common sense.”

”Oh.” Grey realized.

So far, all the techniques he had comprehended were at the 2nd rank of evolution.

Heaven Opening Sword Line had no rank and focuses on the basic law of sword and sword intent.

Space-Cleaving Technique is similar, being law-derived but rankless, meaning it had no rule like a 3-Star technique.

Techniques related to the soul, especially those with no inspiration or comprehension source, naturally take much longer to comprehend.

Learning time increases with each rank and from hear on out, even comprehending a 4-star technique will take a him while, but it won’t take as long as Xia Qingyue.

Who was he?

he was the one with heaven defying comprehension!

On the bright side, he had successfully comprehended the Nine Spirit Soul Search technique.

And not just superficially.

He had reached succession.

All within fifteen days.

Xia Qingyue took a breath, then shifted the topic, her expression turning serious once more.

”This Nine Spirit Soul Search technique is not the same as ordinary soul probing methods,” she said. ”It can only be used safely by espers who possess a Mind Palace, which normally awakens at the second rank.”

She continued calmly, but the implications were heavy.

”And even at the second rank, probing the memories of just a single individual is enough to severely bloat the Mind Palace. Anyone else attempting to use it without the proper structure would become brain-dead almost instantly due to the overwhelming influx of information.”

She paused briefly before adding, ”Immortal cultivators at the Nascent Soul Realm, which corresponds to the fourth rank, can also use it.”

”At that stage, they awaken Divine Consciousness, which functions similarly to an esper’s mind perception. However, it is far more limited. It is primarily suited for probing and lacks the versatility that espers possess.”

Her gaze sharpened slightly.

”And do not use it too frequently. Even powerful third rank espers have accidentally exploded their Mind Palaces due to overload.”

Grey listened carefully, reflecting on her words.

His Mind Palace was... abnormal.

It could store absurd amounts of information. In theory, it could even contain the entirety of Blue Star’s accumulated digital knowledge without issue.

But Xia Qingyue was right.

Soul searching was different.

What flowed in was not raw data.

It was experience.

Complete lives, layered with emotions, memories, instincts, regrets, and subconscious imprints. Continuous soul searching would eventually fill even his Mind Palace to capacity.

That danger still existed.

Then.

Grey smiled.

Who was he?

He was someone with heaven defying comprehension.

Solutions were his specialty.

His first instinct was compression. If the information could be condensed before storage, overload could be avoided.

But how?

The Nine Spirit Soul Search technique functioned by generating a specific mind-wave frequency, formed through the circulation of psionic energy in a precise pattern. This frequency resonated directly with the target’s soul, extracting information through harmonic alignment.

And patterns...

Were things Grey understood best.

Every technique followed rules.

Every law followed structure.

That was why he had been able to comprehend it so quickly.

Even so, the overload problem remained unresolved.

Then.

A sudden realization struck him.

”I totally forgot about it!”

A wide grin spread across Grey’s face.

Cognitive Anchor.
