Nexus Ascension: My Comprehension Defies the Heaven

Chapter 265: Someone call the referee!

At Grey’s mansion, silence reigned.

Everyone sat frozen in place, lips twitching uncontrollably, as if they wanted to say something but didn’t even know where to begin.

Gu Qianchen, on the other hand, was staring at the screen with eyes stretched wide.

”Hey, old friend...” he said slowly, disbelief dripping from every word. ”He’s using the same technique as the City Lord, isn’t he?”

His eyes looked like they were about to pop out.

If he weren’t a high-and-mighty 3rd ranker with decades of composure hammered into him, he would have already crashed out on the spot.

Around him, everyone slowly turned their gazes toward Valeria.

She sat there stiffly, her lips twitching nonstop.

Because this time, the person Grey had plagiarized... was her.

They all knew it. Valeria possessed heavenly fire. That much wasn’t a secret to anyone in the room.

And the spell Grey had just unleashed on screen—

There was no doubt about it.

It was the heavenly fire.

Worse still, he hadn’t stopped there.

After copying her, he had proceeded to plagiarize his opponent’s technique as well.

Everyone who knew Grey personally was completely at a loss for words.

If they had only suspected something was wrong with his comprehension before, now it was undeniable.

This wasn’t talent anymore.

This was absurd.

This was mind-numbing.

On the other side, Lia’s calm voice echoed inside their minds as she opened a telepathic channel.

Lia: ”Hey... he didn’t have that technique before this, right?”

Valeria hesitated for a fraction of a second before replying.

Valeria: ”I’ve never seen him use it. Ever. And he definitely didn’t obtain it during his stay in Ashspire City.”

Werner followed up immediately, his tone firm.

Werner: ”What Miss Valeria said is correct.”

Alissa: ”...”

No one spoke after that.

Because at this point, there was nothing left to say.

Werner cleared his throat and spoke, his tone steady and logical.

”Naturally, Overseer Gu Qianchen. How else could it be explained?” he said. ”That sword technique clearly requires sword intent and a deep understanding of the law of the sword. Those things are simply impossible to comprehend within seconds or minutes. It takes years of accumulation, and for some people, it’s something they can never comprehend at all.”

”...”

Werner’s words were meant to reassure.

Instead, they made things worse.

For those who truly knew Grey, the explanation only deepened the unease.

Alissa clenched her fists. For a brief moment, she genuinely considered going to find Grey and beating him up.

But then she imagined the outcome.

Even if she were at the same power level as him, he would probably shamelessly plagiarize her attacks mid-fight and use them to beat her back instead.

What sort of cheat was this?

Someone call the referee of the world already!

This guy wasn’t just strong.

He was a threat to reality itself.

”You’re right,” Gu Qianchen finally said, shaking his head. ”What was I thinking earlier? How could someone possibly comprehend a technique just by seeing it once? That’s ridiculous. The explanation is obvious.”

”They simply have similar techniques.”

”Hah... looks like I overreacted a little,” Gu Qianchen laughed, waving it off. ”My apologies if I made anyone uncomfortable.”

A moment later, others laughed as well.

Awkwardly.

Because while the words made sense...

They knew the truth.

—-

”Arghhh! My butt! Let me go!” an alliance elder screamed in agony.

One infernal had an arm locked tightly around his neck, restraining him with brutal efficiency, while another stood behind him, casually spanking him with the flat side of an infernal spear.

Thankfully, they weren’t using the pointy end.

Still, the humiliation alone was enough to make any elder wish for death.

However—speak of the devil himself.

The very next moment, the nearby elders’ eyes shot wide in disbelief.

They all clearly saw it.

The infernal behind him... changed the way it was holding the spear.

”Elder Xiu! Watch out!” someone screamed in sheer terror.

Cries of disbelief echoed across the skies above the province, only for two different infernals to instantly jump the man who shouted.

He didn’t even have time to react.

A massive mouthful of blood sprayed out as he was sent tumbling through the air.

”F*ck! What happened to dignity?!” the elder roared furiously. ”You damned humanoid beasts, have some shame! How can you attack me when I’m not focusing?!”

Meanwhile, the elder being restrained had gone pale.

Utterly pale.

”N-no!” he screamed, his voice breaking like a frightened girl. ”Anything but that! ANYTHING BUT THAT!”

The two infernals paused.

They stared at each other.

Then—

They grinned.

The infernal holding the spear adjusted his stance and slowly thrust it forward.

Just as despair reached its peak—

The spear stopped.

”What the hell are you two doing?” Grey’s lips twitched as he finally arrived, staring at the scene in front of him.

For a brief moment, he genuinely didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Are these two insane?

He swept his gaze across the skies of the province.

And his expression stiffened.

Everywhere he looked, infernals were bullying alliance elders left and right.

Some were being pinned to the ground.

Some were being chased through the air.

Some were... undergoing experiences that would traumatize them for the rest of their unnaturally long lives.

Maybe they were helping these old men reach hell faster?

Still...

Why the hell were his infernals like this?

Is the temperament of summoned beings dependent on the summoner’s personality?

Because the infernals Lia summoned were gentle, disciplined, and followed orders perfectly.

Yet his...

They were straight-up troublemakers.

Absolute menaces to society.

Grey rubbed his temples.

”...I’m never letting you guys out unsupervised again.”

The two infernals stiffened the instant Grey spoke.

They bowed sharply, movements crisp and obedient, then vanished in a blur, leaving the traumatized elder behind midair, legs still trembling.

City Lord Albert, who had been standing beside Grey the whole time, wore a completely speechless expression.

”...So not only are their appearances devilish,” he said slowly, ”their personalities are as well, huh.”

Grey didn’t answer.

He simply snapped his fingers.

Snap.

In that single moment, it was as if an invisible command rippled across the skies of the province.

All infernals froze.

Mid-swing.

Mid-chase.

Mid-bullying.

Then, one by one, they released the alliance elders they were tormenting and stepped back, standing straight with discipline, their earlier mischief gone as if it had never existed.

The skies fell silent.

The elders, battered, humiliated, and mentally scarred, hovered awkwardly in place, none of them daring to speak.
