The Sword God of the Universe

Chapter 640: Chapter 640: Jing Yan’s Father

Failed to capture Jing Yan alive, and the clues to the Qiankun Ring were once again cut off.

If the Qiankun Ring was on Jing Yan, it would have fallen into the Death Abyss with him.

Gu Wanquan simply couldn’t enter the Death Abyss within the time it closed.

The Death Abyss opens once every hundred years, for a period of three days each time. And since the last opening of the Death Abyss had only been over twenty years ago, it would be another seventy-odd years before the next opening.

”Damn it!” A murderous intent roiled on Gu Wanquan’s body; he was almost certain that the Qiankun Ring was on Jing Yan.

It was precisely because of the Qiankun Ring that Jing Yan possessed such demonic talent!

”Search!”

”Find everyone closely related to that Jing Yan and report to me! That damned bastard must not have it easy!” Gu Wanquan ordered Gu Jinlan, who studiously stood before him.

”Yes, Ancestor, I will issue the command to investigate Jing Yan’s close connections immediately.” Gu Jinlan quickly responded before departing.

After Gu Jinlan left, Gu Wanquan too exited the room. With extreme speed, he left Flowing Light County and flew towards the commandery of East Pass County.

Flowing Light County was the Gu Family stronghold.

And East Pass County was one of the commanderies controlled by the Gu Family. The Gu Family controlled a total of eight huge commandery territories, their power on the Heavenly Origin Continent being extremely formidable.

While Gu Xinghe was alive, East Pass County was managed by him. Although he was not the Commandery Prince, the Commandery Prince of East Pass County still had to follow Gu Xinghe’s instructions. It could be said that the influence of the Holy City on East Pass County was far less than that of the Gu Family.

In the residence where Gu Xinghe lived, there were not many from the Gu Family present. Since the death of Gu Xinghe, even fewer people frequented this estate—only a small number of servants and guards, keeping watch to prevent outsiders from entering.

Deep within the estate, underground!

Led by a martial artist of the Daoist King Realm, Gu Wanquan entered through the entrance.

”Ancestor, the man is still alive.” The Daoist King Realm martial artist spoke to Gu Wanquan with utmost respect.

”Mm, you wait outside.” Gu Wanquan waved his arm and instructed.

”Yes!” The Daoist King Realm martial artist quickly exited.

He did not know the identity of the person imprisoned here nor why they were kept captive. But he knew that Gu Wanquan valued this person immensely.

This was evident from Gu Wanquan having his direct grandson, Gu Xinghe, personally guard this place.

However, the imprisoned person seemed not to be very powerful.

The Daoist King Realm martial artist glanced back once more, then shook his head, deciding it was better not to ponder further. Some things were not for him to delve into. More knowledge was not necessarily a good thing; if one wanted to live a long life, it was best not to pry into secrets.

A cold smile on his lips, Gu Wanquan rapidly flashed deeper into the dungeons.

Within one of the cells, a long-haired man sat with his head down. Upon hearing noise, the long-haired man lifted his head, revealing a strange expression on his blood-stained face.

When he saw Gu Wanquan entering, he actually broke out in laughter.

From appearances, the long-haired man’s situation was dire. He was chained, but the chains were not just binding him—they pierced through his body. Dry, brown blood had caked into a thick layer on his garment of indiscernible color.

”Old fart, you’re still not dead yet?” the long-haired man asked with a laugh.

”Jing Lunnan, all you can do here is spout defiance,” Gu Wanquan said without showing any anger.

The name he voiced was indeed Jing Lunnan.

Jing Yan’s father was named Jing Lunnan.

”Old fart, where is that monster of a grandson? Why haven’t I seen him in a long time? Don’t tell me he’s dead?” Jing Lunnan teased with a laugh.

The person he referred to was Gu Xinghe.

Gu Xinghe was responsible for overseeing Jing Lunnan’s captivity. As Gu Wanquan’s direct grandson, he was privy to some information others did not know, such as that of the Qiankun Ring. Inside the Gu Family, even Gu Jinlan was unaware of the Qiankun Ring, yet Gu Xinghe knew.

After learning of the ring, Gu Xinghe began to devise ways to torment Jing Lunnan, trying to extract the exact whereabouts of the Qiankun Ring from him.

Thus, Gu Xinghe typically tortured Jing Lunnan almost every month. This time, however, nearly a year had passed without an appearance, which even Jing Lunnan found strange.

At Jing Lunnan’s words, Gu Wanquan’s face grew cold, and a fierce light flickered in his eyes.

Jing Lunnan caught the change in expression and sensed something stirring within—could that little monster Gu Xinghe indeed be dead?

Who could have killed the little monster?

”Ha ha ha...”

”Gu Wanquan, old fart, it seems your grandson really is dead! I’d love to know who killed that evil little monster. If I get out, I must have a long talk with him,” Jing Lunnan said, laughing heartily.

”I’m afraid you won’t have the chance!” replied Gu Wanquan, suppressing his anger and giving a cold smile.

”The Qiankun Ring... you must have given it to your son, right? Your son’s name is Jing Yan, isn’t it?” Gu Wanquan stared into Jing Lunnan’s eyes.

Jing Lunnan’s face remained calm, but inside, he was undergoing a tumultuous upheaval.

”Jing Lunnan, there’s no need to pretend anymore. Your son... is already dead, killed by my own hands,” Gu Wanquan continued, ”It’s a pity I couldn’t get the Qiankun Ring from him. Jing Yan’s body, along with the Qiankun Ring, fell into the Death Abyss.”

”That little bastard really was cunning! Killing him was indeed a great effort.”

”Jing Lunnan, you went to great lengths to conceal the news of having a son. Sadly, in the end, we found out. Ha ha...” Gu Wanquan laughed wildly, venting his anger.

”Old fart, by breaking the agreement and targeting the Jing Family, aren’t you afraid that Lianxing will seek revenge?” Jing Lunnan’s shadowed face showed his anger as he spoke through clenched teeth.

”Are you talking about that small bastard’s mother?”

”Jing Lunnan, don’t try to threaten me with that woman from the Divine Clan! She probably finds it very difficult to come to the Heavenly Origin Continent. It’s been over twenty years without a sighting. Who knows, she might already be dead,” Jing Lunnan said, his complexion subtly changing before swiftly reverting to normal.

”Sigh...”

”Jing Lunnan, without the Qiankun Ring, keeping you alive has little purpose. Still, I won’t kill you.” Gu Wanquan shifted the subject.

Previously, Gu Wanquan kept Jing Lunnan captive in hopes of learning the Qiankun Ring’s whereabouts from him. Now, it was presumed that the Qiankun Ring had been taken by Jing Yan and dropped into the Death Abyss. To retrieve the ring, it would be necessary to wait another seventy or so years, until the Death Abyss reopened, to venture inside and search.

Gu Wanquan was preserving Jing Lunnan’s life as a precaution. In the event that Chu Lianxing emerged from the Despair Abyss, Jing Lunnan would serve as a bargaining chip in his hands.
