The Sword God of the Universe

Chapter 628: Chapter 628: On the Run

The news of Gu Xinghe’s death, a candidate Patriarch of the Gai Family, also spread rapidly.

Ordinary Martial Artists might not know because their status made it difficult for them to access information at this level. However, those Great Families and major powers received the news quite easily.

At first, everyone found it hard to believe that it could be true.

On this continent, someone actually dared to kill a candidate Patriarch of the Gai Family.

But soon enough, the news was confirmed.

For a time, many people were glad to hear it. Regarding Jing Yan, who had killed Gu Xinghe, their curiosity grew even stronger.

After the Alchemy ceremony, Jing Yan’s fame had grown significantly, and those Great Families and powers had all paid some attention to him. It wasn’t until Hu Donghe, the City Lord of Pill Spirit City, gave Jing Yan the Guest Token that most of them abandoned the idea of targeting Jing Yan.

But they did not expect that, soon after, Jing Yan would make such a big fuss again, actually killing Gu Xinghe, the candidate Patriarch of the Gai Family.

The Seven Great Families, Cheng Family.

”The Gai Family really lost face this time! Even their candidate Patriarch has been killed.”

”That old guy Gu Wanquan must be steaming with rage. Gu Xinghe was his own grandson, after all. But I must say, that old fellow is really something; he’s lived to over a thousand years old and still managed to father children. His son is also several hundred years old and only then did he have Gu Xinghe as his descendant.”

Some of the Cheng Family’s higher-ups gleefully discussed the Gai Family’s misfortune.

”Hmph!” An ancient voice sounded.

Following that, an elder dressed in a black robe appeared.

The Ancient Family Ancestor of the Cheng Family.

This person was a monster of about the same antique status as Gu Wanquan.

”Ancestor!” The higher-ups of the Cheng Family quickly bowed in greeting.

”Ancestor, something has happened to the Gai Family. Gu Wanquan’s legitimate grandson, Gu Xinghe, has been killed by a young man named Jing Yan,” the Cheng Family Patriarch said hastily.

”Mm, I’m aware. You all should stop discussing this recklessly. It’s enough for us to just watch what happens with the Gai Family,” said the Ancient Family Ancestor of the Cheng Family with squinted eyes, gesturing with his hand lazily.

”Yes!” everyone responded in unison.

The Seven Great Families, Wu Family!

The Wu Family, unlike the Ancestors of the Gai and Cheng Families, didn’t have such ancient monsters, but they did have three titans. These three titans were also powerful beings who had lived for over a thousand years.

”This Jing Yan, I really want to meet him.”

”To think he dared take out Gu Wanquan’s grandson, he’s got guts!”

”This youngster won’t live much longer. Gu Wanquan will absolutely not let him off. Most likely, even those who know him won’t make it.”

The three titans of the Wu Family gathered and discussed the matter.

Across the Heavenly Origin Continent, various powers were mostly internally discussing this incident these days.

Almost all of them were delighted; they took pleasure in the Gai Family’s misfortune.

Of course, their understanding was also nearly the same—that Jing Yan, who had killed Gu Xinghe, was as good as dead.

Gu Wanquan would certainly not spare Jing Yan’s life.

Holy Palace!

”Holy Master, you summoned me here, what are your commands?” Gu Wanquan said to the Holy Master in a nonchalant manner.

Although he bowed slightly, there was not much respect for the Holy Master to be seen in his demeanor.

”Old Gu is too formal!” The Holy Master replied with a smile.

”Just speak, Holy Master! I have other matters to attend to and might not have much time to stay here,” Gu Wanquan said, lifting his gaze to look at the Holy Master with cloudy eyes.

”Well then, I won’t beat around the bush,” the Holy Master stood up and paused before saying, ”I know about Gu Xinghe’s death, killed by Jing Yan. I called you here to ask that you spare Jing Yan. It’s not easy for the Heavenly Origin Continent to produce such a prodigious Martial Arts talent. It would be a huge loss if he were to die.”

The Holy Master stared at Gu Wanquan as he spoke.

”Ha ha ha...” Gu Wanquan began to laugh loudly.

”Holy Master, are you suggesting that it’s not a pity for my grandson Gu Xinghe to die?” A blazing light shot from Gu Wanquan’s murky eyes.

”Gu Xinghe is already dead, and killing Jing Yan won’t bring him back,” the Holy Master retorted with a frown.

”Holy Master, stop talking. If you’ve summoned me here just to discuss this matter, please forgive me for not agreeing. This bastard named Jing Yan is as good as dead! Nothing and no one will stop me! My grandson Gu Wanquan didn’t die for nothing!” Gu Wanquan’s roar resonated throughout the Holy Hall.

The Holy Master sighed softly within his heart.

He had known all along that this would be the outcome. Not even he, the Holy Master, could change Gu Wanquan’s determination to kill Jing Yan.

”Since Old Gu is so resolved, I will respect your decision. However, I hope you will consider the bigger picture and refrain from rashly acting against Jing Yan’s Family, the Jing Family,” the Holy Master suddenly changed his tone.

Gu Wanquan stared intently at the Holy Master.

”Old Gu hasn’t forgotten the agreement you personally signed over twenty years ago, have you?

If you really intend to strike at the Jing Family, you probably won’t be able to explain it to the Divine Race either, right? Once they become enraged, even the Gai Family may struggle to cope.

Moreover, if this issue escalates, it would definitely be unfavorable for the Gai Family. The other families, if they learn about something as unique as the Qiankun Ring, understanding it might be on a Jing Family member, could they remain indifferent?” the Holy Master enunciated his words one after another.

”Holy Master, are you threatening me?” Gu Wanquan’s voice lowered.

”Threatening you? No! However, if something happens to the Jing Family, I can’t guarantee that the news about the Qiankun Ring won’t leak out. Then, Old Gu will face competitive pressure. I hope you will consider carefully,” stated the Holy Master with considerable force.

”Farewell!” Old Gu gave a casual bow to the Holy Master and disappeared into the Great Hall with a flash.

Gazing into the empty Great Hall, the Holy Master sighed and shook his head.

”Lianxing, I hope you won’t blame me; I’ve done all I can. Your son... I’m afraid I’m powerless to protect him...” the Holy Master looked into the distance and murmured softly.

Lanqu County City!

”This...”

Zhou Shangyun received the message relayed back from the Holy City.

”Sigh, as expected, it’s no use!” Zhou Shangyun shook his head helplessly.

”Prince, even the Holy Master can’t stop the Gai Family from retaliating?” Mu Liantian looked at Zhou Shangyun.

”Mm, the Holy Master has relayed a message; he can’t stop the Gai Family from seeking revenge on Jing Yan. However, he will do his best to protect Jing Yan’s family,” Zhou Shangyun said.

”What should I say to Jing Yan? I think the Gai Family’s formidable ones are about to arrive here, aren’t they?” Zhou Shangyun smiled wryly and shook his head again.

”Prince!” At that moment, Jing Yan walked in from outside.

”It seems I’ll have to make a run for it!” Jing Yan chuckled, having heard the exchange between Zhou Shangyun and Mu Liantian.

”Jing Yan...” Zhou Shangyun was at a loss for words.

”It’s alright, it’s good that my family has been spared from calamity. Prince, Lord Chief, I will be leaving this place soon, and we will meet again in the future.” Jing Yan bowed earnestly to the two men.
