Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1141: Chapter 1142: Not Revealing All the Cards

Since everything about him was now laid bare, Ning Ge no longer concealed anything and presented his thoughts to the two heads of the family.

”I just told the big brother, our Ning Family is already flourishing enough. With Xiao Le joining the military, if I also come out into the open, our family’s entire foundation will be exposed to others,” Ning Ge said.

But Ning Gang countered, ”What’s the big deal? This isn’t ancient times where you need to hide your strength.”

Old Master Ning fell into deep thought.

”Big brother, don’t you know the saying ’Don’t put all your eggs in one basket’?” Ning Ge said, ”Being cautious is better than being careless. If I’m in the shadows, it’s more convenient for me to do certain things. Being in the open, I’d only be hindered at every turn.”

Ning Gang fell silent.

”Have you been investigating a case these past few days?” Old Master Ning asked.

Ning Ge nodded, hesitated for a moment, then disclosed his investigation into the Loo Family and Jiang Conghe, saying, ”The person who died at the restaurant tonight was the Loo Family’s accountant, but he was murdered. I suspect it was the Loo Family’s own doing.”

Ning Gang frowned, ”Why go after the Loo Family out of the blue?”

”Big brother, Jiang Conghe and the Loo Family are one. No matter which side falls, the other will inevitably be implicated. Are you sure you won’t act?” Ning Ge raised an eyebrow and sneered.

Ning Gang said nothing. Now, his conflict with Jiang Conghe had surfaced from the shadows to the open, and eventually, one side would certainly be toppled.

Could he possibly want to be the one to fall? No!

”The Loo Family’s business surely has its shady dealings. I’m starting from this angle to breach their defenses. But if I’m in the open, investigating would be less convenient,” Ning Ge explained, revealing information they could understand.

Old Master Ning listened, then looked at him and asked, ”Don’t you feel wronged yourself?”

”What’s there to feel wronged about?” Ning Ge shrugged and said, ”I’m just doing what I love.”

The game of cat and mouse was something he enjoyed, and even from an open stance, he intended to catch those big mice.

”Since you don’t feel wronged, do as you wish, but make sure you ensure your safety. In the future... if you still want, you could go to National Security as well,” Old Master Ning said.

”Dad.” Ning Gang furrowed his brows slightly.

Old Master Ning raised his hand and said, ”Your little brother is right; this is good. One in the open, one in the shadows—if you don’t reveal all your cards, others won’t know your play. Let’s keep it that way.”

With the elder saying so, Ning Gang had no more arguments and could only agree, ”Very well. But in the future, Xiao Si, you should report more frequently to me about your missions.”

”Big brother, not each organization functions the same; remember, I’m not one of your soldiers!” Ning Ge smiled playfully.

”You!” Ning Gang’s face darkened, yet he knew Ning Ge was right. Certain things, not even he, as a Commander, could pry into.

Ning Ge yawned, feeling relieved now that he understood the true story from back then. It was time to catch up on some sleep. ”I’ll go take a nap; won’t join you for breakfast.”

With a wave, he left the study.

”That brat, Dad, look at him—where’s the seriousness? It’s hard to believe Pan Gongnian took a liking to him!” Ning Gang spoke, exasperated by his demeanor.

”That’s how it should be. This kind of disguise is less likely to be seen through. There’s no need to disclose Xiao Si’s identity to anyone. Don’t tell your wife either; just hint a little to the second brother, but don’t mention anything to Zhener!” Old Master Ning instructed.

Ning Gang nodded and continued discussing Ning Ge’s matters with him.
