Chapter 1263: Chapter 1262: A Donkey Cart in the Dead of Night

The four of them kept running for their lives. Soon, they couldn’t see any lights anymore, and no one was chasing after them. Only then did they stop to take a brief rest.

Luo Yirui looked around to get his bearings and decided to walk parallel to the dirt road, following it. They had to find a place with signs of human life.

As they walked, the four of them were somewhat silent. Little Fatty wasn’t whining about lying in a warm bed eating popcorn, Fu Xuan Ge had no mind to mock him, and Jing Yuansi was listless.

The four of them knew that they hadn’t really escaped the clutches of the Nie Family!

While walking, Luo Yirui thought that nowhere would be safe until he returned to Beijing, where he would truly be secure.

The four of them walked until they could walk no more. Even though they didn’t feel cold, they were all very hungry.

”Brother Xiao Rui, I’m so hungry I can’t walk,” Little Fatty said, plopping down on the ground. Today, he was only full from eating fish and had picked some wild fruits to snack on, but that was it. He was really both thirsty and hungry.

Gurgle~

Jing Yuansi touched her stomach with a red face. She rarely voiced her opinions and had made an effort to keep up with them all along the way, but now she was unbearably hungry, as she had been holding out since they came down from the mountains.

Luo Yirui remained silent. At this point, he didn’t know what to do either; he was hungry too.

Fu Xuan Ge said, ”Since there’s a village, there might be more villages. Don’t look at me, it’s not like we’re going into a village. Do you remember the fields we saw after we left the mountains? There might be something edible in there.”

Their eyes lit up at the suggestion, and they all nodded. So the four of them set off toward a possible location with fields.

There was no help for it; in this pitch-black place, there wasn’t a hint of light. They were surrounded by mountains, all pitch-black with no light sneaking through, only the bright moon in the sky faintly casting its glow.

Under the moonlight, the outlines of fields could be vaguely seen, and the four of them groped their way over. Soon, they reached the fields.

Although during the Fu family’s seclusion they would also plant crops, they hired people to do it, so Fu Xuan Ge was at a loss after feeling around for a while, unsure of what was planted or if it was ripe.

Luo Yirui looked at the leaves above and decided to pull them out with force. If it didn’t work, he’d find some water to boil the vegetables and eat them!

With this in mind, after trying for a while without success, Luo Yirui was overjoyed when he couldn’t pull it out—there must be something below. He called the three others to help pull. Little Fatty used his small chubby hands to dig around the soil, and then they managed to pull it out.

When they lifted it up for a look, it was a big white radish!

Joyful expressions appeared in the eyes of all four, and they quickened their pace, with each person digging up three big radishes before hastily moving on. They were worried that staying in one place too long would get them discovered.

Judging by the time, it’s likely someone has found those two people by now, and they’re surely looking for them.

The white radishes were mature, and though they were covered in dirt, their appearance was increasingly pleasing to the eye. The four of them weren’t particular; they just wiped them clean on their clothes and ate them, not only to fill their stomachs but also to quench their thirst.

Consuming a single white radish made them feel somewhat full. They didn’t dare carry too much, as it would be too heavy and slow them down.

They followed the dirt road and walked for half the night, feeling a chill settle in. In this place, there was nowhere to sleep. They began to miss the roots of a big tree.

Even if they found a tree root now, they wouldn’t dare light a fire. Starting a fire would only give their location away.

”Brother Xiao Rui, there’s a donkey cart up ahead!” Little Fatty pointed at the dirt road not far ahead.

In the middle of the night, would there really be a donkey cart?
