I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 954: Chapter 953: Run for Our Lives Together

The old man passed away, and Jing Changle kept kneeling there, wailing until his voice went hoarse. Luo Yirui knew crying like this wasn’t a solution, but he had never encountered such a situation before and didn’t know what to do, just sitting dumbly in the back.

Later, it was a passing villager who heard the cries and discovered what had happened.

The villagers didn’t dislike the old man and Jing Changle; otherwise, they wouldn’t have helped them build a house. In fact, because of his scoundrel son, the villagers felt sympathy and took care of the grandfather and grandson.

Seeing the old man pass away suddenly, the villagers were also grieved and quickly went to find the village head. This situation was something the village head had to handle.

The village head rushed over upon hearing the news, bringing along several people to help. By the time they arrived, they found that Lele had cried himself hoarse and was now staring blankly while kneeling on the ground, unsure of how long he had been kneeling.

”How is Jing Shunping doing?” the village head asked.

The person who was sent to notify bit his teeth in anger and said, ”Jing Shunping won’t come. He said he’s already severed ties with the old man!”

Hearing this, the villagers present cursed Jing Shunping for being ungrateful. This is his own father, after all, and he doesn’t care even after he’s dead?!

People often say they have children to care for them in old age, but this son is truly a waste!

The village head was also fuming with anger. Many people neglect their parents, but he’d never seen anyone so indifferent to a parent even in death.

At this moment, Jing Changle turned around blankly and said, ”Grandpa Zhang, I want to arrange a ceremony for my grandfather. I have money, but I don’t know how to do it. Could you please help me manage it?”

Grandpa Zhang was the village head.

Feeling sorry for the child after seeing him like this, the village head sighed repeatedly, and his nose began to tingle at his words.

”Old Jing, you didn’t raise this child in vain! You’ve accumulated virtue in a past life!” The village head wiped his tears and began instructing a few people to dress Elder Jing.

Seeing this, Jing Changle’s tears came again.

The village head walked over and said, ”Remember the two uncles who are dressing your grandfather; this is a debt of gratitude that you need to repay in the future.”

Jing Changle nodded, got to his feet, and bowed to the two uncles.

The funeral was arranged by the village head. Initially, he intended to call upon the villagers for donations, thinking that would be enough, but unexpectedly, Jing Changle actually took out money. When asked where the money came from, he said he had earned it from doing odd jobs and saved over the years.

The village head wasn’t naive; many people who worked outside for years wouldn’t have saved that much, let alone a five or six-year-old child. But he didn’t press further—the money was most likely saved by Elder Jing, and it was wise to leave it!

The funeral took place in the village, not elsewhere, to shame Jing Shunping.

Because Jing Changle contributed a lot of money, the funeral was well-organized and lasted for three days!

During this time, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Elder Jing’s son, Jing Shuncai, seeing the arrangements, thought Elder Jing secretly left money and made a big scene demanding Elder Jing’s money, claiming he should inherit it.

Having known him for decades, no one had ever seen such shamelessness. Money truly is something that can make a person so brazen and unrecognizable!

Jing Shunping incited public anger, and even his wife almost got beaten by the villagers. They ended up getting no money, and Jing Changle took the opportunity to claim back his bead.

The bead had already been used by his son as a marble; it wasn’t anything valuable, so Jing Shunping didn’t mind returning it.

On the day of Elder Jing’s burial, it was Jing Changle in mourning clothes, carrying the banner at the front, a role originally meant for the eldest son.

Because of this, Jing Shunping was further despised by the villagers, but he simply didn’t care.

”He’ll face retribution sooner or later!”

”Such a person will definitely come to a bad end. The heavens won’t protect him.”

”...”

The big group behind looked at that small figure in the front and unanimously cursed Jing Shunping.

After burying Elder Jing, the village head took Jing Changle to his home and asked him about his plans.

Jing Changle sighed and said he decided to leave with Luo Yirui and visit his home for a while.

The village head was always curious about who this child was and which village he came from, but neither child said a word.

”Can you keep playing forever?” The village head thought Jing Changle didn’t understand his question.

Jing Changle forced a smile, saying, ”Grandpa Zhang, I plan to go for a while, and I’ll make plans when I come back.”

This was just an excuse; he wouldn’t return anytime soon.

His relatives were gone, his home was gone, so why come back?

The village head sighed, took two hundred yuan from his pocket, and said, ”Lele, this is what everyone chipped in for you. Take it. No matter what, you have to live well.”

Jing Changle was moved, but he shook his head, ”Grandpa Zhang, I thank all the uncles and aunts, but I cannot use this money!”

The village head grabbed his hand, pressed the money into his palm, and held it tight, ”It’s everyone’s goodwill; accept it. Don’t forget these uncles and aunts who helped you.”

He was worried; this child, having survived alone and gone through so much, might grow resentful of the world or head down a wrong path. That’s why he repeatedly emphasized the need to understand gratitude.

Jing Changle accepted the money, remembering the villagers’ kindness. In the future, he grew into a handsome young man, carrying honor, no longer the pitiful young boy he once was. He built roads for the village, improved the environment, constructed a glass pathway, and developed tourism, turning this small village into one of the top villages in the area, leading the whole village to prosperity.

As for the two uncles who dressed his grandfather, Jing Changle arranged positions for their children within his district, providing them with good opportunities.

This is later.

Jing Changle left the small village, and as he left, he glanced at the wooden house, climbed onto the roof, and pulled out the ridge beam so that the house quickly collapsed.

After finishing, Jing Changle walked over to Luo Yirui and said, ”Where are we going?”

Luo Yirui shrugged, ”I’m a fugitive now, so you might just have to join me in fleeing the horizon.”

Perhaps because he now had someone with him, Luo Yirui’s attitude had changed significantly; he was no longer as confused, pessimistic, or passive.

Although the way home was still difficult, he believed he could return eventually, and by that time, he might be a different person.

”Fleeing the horizon, it is then. Better than being alone.” Jing Changle looked at the distant mountains and said.
