Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1398: Chapter 828

What Li Xiaogu mentioned, back in the day, Father Li and Mrs. Li would have agreed without hesitation. With such a suitable girl being offered, how could they not seize the opportunity?

But now, the old couple is somewhat hesitant. They had just said they wouldn’t interfere with their son’s marriage, letting him follow his own heart. Now, suddenly making him come back to see a potential match, isn’t it... isn’t it like going back on their word?

”Dad, Mom, why are you hesitating over such a good opportunity?” Seeing her parents staying silent for so long, Li Zexia grew anxious. Her brother is already twenty-six and still without a wife, which she finds quite embarrassing.

”Yeah, second brother, second sister-in-law, it’s rare to encounter such a perfect match.” Li Xiaogu was also puzzled. She wouldn’t have bothered to move in this cold weather if she didn’t know her brother and sister-in-law were worried about their son’s marriage.

”Well... then let’s have Xiao Kun come back and take a look.” Father Li hesitated but eventually made the decision.

Li Xiaogu frowned: ”Second brother, tell me truthfully, does Xiao Kun have someone in mind that you and sister-in-law don’t approve of?”

”Do you think your sister-in-law and I are those kinds of unreasonable people? If Xiao Kun really had someone he liked, would I hide it from you and let you worry about it? Wouldn’t that be mean to you?

Forget it, second brother won’t hide it from you. Today, your sister-in-law and I discussed it and decided not to pressure Xiao Kun anymore, whether it’s about work or marriage. We want him to make his own decisions.

However, the girl you mentioned seems quite suitable for Xiao Kun, so I thought, why not let him meet her and decide for himself? It wouldn’t count as pressuring him, right?”

Li Xiaogu let out a breath but then furrowed her brows: ”Second brother, second sister-in-law, what’s gotten into you two? You can’t just let Xiao Kun quit. You know how hard it is to get a stable job?

And about finding a wife, you can’t just let it go. Young people always want someone good-looking, but can looks put food on the table? No matter how beautiful, they’ll all end up wrinkly.

Besides, good-looking ones are usually hard to please. It’s not just Xiao Kun who’ll suffer, you two will suffer too, having to cater to her as if she’s a goddess, essentially marrying an ancestor.

Don’t think I’m scaring you; Zhao Liang from our village is an example. He went to college and married a city girl. She’s pretty, but she can’t do anything.

She just sits on the heated brick bed at home and has Zhao Liang and his mother wait on her, yet still complains about this and that. We can’t find a wife like that for our family.”

”Yeah, Dad, Mom, Xiao Kun can’t marry someone like that.” Li Zexia thought for a moment and looked at Li Xiaogu, ”Aunt, what’s the family like of the girl you mentioned?”

”Her father is the principal of a middle school in town, and her mother is a barefoot doctor. She’s their only daughter. What do you think of their family situation?”

”Oh dear, if Xiao Kun marries her, will he have to support her parents too?” Li Zexia’s expression changed immediately. ”Dad, Mom, think it over thoroughly. Although I live in the same village, after all, I’m a married daughter. If Xiao Kun spends all his time at his wife’s parents helping out, it’s like he’s marrying into their family.”

The implication being, think about how to handle the elder care; I won’t be involved.

Father Li glanced at his daughter with disappointment, ”Don’t worry, I don’t plan on having you support us in our old age, so it would be enough if you don’t expect us to keep supporting you.”

Li Zexia whispered softly, ”I... I didn’t mean it like that. I’m looking out for you both.”

Father Li ignored her and turned to Li Xiaogu, ”Little sister, I’ve shared our thoughts with you. Whether or not you tell Xiao Kun about this match, I’m not pressuring you. No matter what happens with Xiao Kun in the future, I appreciate the concern you’ve shown for him.”

”Second brother, why talk like outsiders when we’re family?” Li Xiaogu was straightforward and stood up immediately, ”I’m heading back first, I’ll have my sister-in-law help with the preparations. Once the meeting date is set, I’ll come by to let you know.”

”Alright, little sister, take this with you.” Mrs. Li handed over a pack of biscuits to Li Xiaogu, ”No need, leave it for Zhuangzhuang to eat.” Li Xiaogu declined, heading out.

Li Zexia leaned in for a closer look, ”Mom, when did you buy this? I haven’t seen it in the store.”

”I didn’t buy it; Mayor Luo gave it to us. I said no, but he insisted we keep it.” Mrs. Li said as she stuffed it into Li Xiaogu’s arms, ”Little sister, the Mayor gave us two packs, take this one back for Bingbing to eat.”

Bingbing is Li Xiaogu’s little grandson.
