Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1387: Chapter 824: See Clearly (2)

”Now that we’re not in front of the female soldiers, Old Xue, I’m serious, Qi Yan is 23, you’re 26, from an age perspective, you’re quite compatible, so consider it carefully.”

”Since when did you become a matchmaker?” Xue Fengqi waved his hand, ”I’m leaving, you all carry on preparing slowly. Today, I was just being nosy, basically asking for a beating.”

”Hey, what are you talking about? This brat!” Qin Jianqi laughed as she turned and walked towards the back of the tent. At the same time, Vice Captain Qi Yan had finished the meeting, greeted her with a salute, ”Commander, is there anything else you want to specifically convey?”

After the salute, Qin Jianqi looked at the female soldiers standing in four rows: ”At ease!” After a moment, she smiled, ”I have some good news for everyone here.”

The head of the women’s special team has arrived, and the selection will start tomorrow morning. The criteria for selection are the data standards on the list that Vice Captain Qi distributed to everyone before the meeting today.”

Everyone can assess their own performance, those who feel hopeful should participate in the competition tomorrow, and those who feel there’s a gap should also participate, you might exceed your usual performance.

In short, everyone should be confident and energetically participate in this selection, and today, don’t exert too much. Understand?”

”Yes!”

The unanimous shout made Qin Jianqi’s ears buzz. She was very pleased with this morale, so she took a step back: ”Attention!... Dismissed!”

”Qi Yan, come over, I have something to say to you.” Qin Jianqi said as she walked towards a quiet corner.

”What’s up, Commander?” After stopping, Qi Yan looked at Qin Jianqi with a puzzled expression. It was rare for the Commander to be this serious, which made her feel a little nervous.

After hesitating, Qin Jianqi straightforwardly asked: ”Nothing much, I just want to ask if you also like Commander Xue?”

”A little bit.” Qi Yan answered honestly.

”Is it because of his background, or because of who he is, or something else?”

”Well...” Qi Yan was a bit at a loss on how to answer, lying wouldn’t be right, and telling the truth felt embarrassing.

”Speak honestly.”

”Firstly, I like his looks. Secondly, his personality and efforts match my preferences. As for his background, that’s not within my consideration. Commander Qin, why are you asking this?” Qi Yan scrutinized Qin Jianqi, ”I believe this definitely wasn’t Commander Xue who asked you to inquire.”

”You’re right, you do know him well.” Qin Jianqi sighed lightly, ”Bringing this up now, I wanted to remind you that if you really like him, you need to strive to stand out and get selected. Otherwise, marrying into the Xue family is impossible.”

”I never planned to marry into the Xue family. Liking him is one thing, marrying is another. I don’t want his elders bringing a pile of temptations sitting across from me, asking me to leave him one day.”

”Are you worried you won’t resist temptation?” Qin Jianqi’s lowered eyes hid her expressions.

”No, I will ignore those temptations, but I think being treated like that is quite insulting to one’s dignity. Even if I manage the pressure and marry into that family, I’d live cautiously my whole life.

I’ve always known what I want. I’ll work hard for this selection, not for anyone else, but for myself and my family.

Since I enlisted, you’ve looked out for me, and even now, you’re still worrying about me. Commander, thank you! Also, Commander, happiness is something you must pursue on your own!”

”You...” Qin Jianqi quickly glanced at Qi Yan, ”What do you mean by that?”

”Nothing, Commander. I just mean my happiness depends on my own efforts, and your happiness also depends on your efforts.” Qi Yan glanced at the time, ”If there’s nothing else, Commander, I’ll head to training.”

”Go ahead.” Qin Jianqi waved her hand, her face dropping once Qi Yan’s figure disappeared. She thought for a moment, took out a small mirror she carried, and looked at herself, feeling even more down.

Dark skin, single-lidded small eyes; even if she had a high nose bridge and pretty lip shape, so what?

God knows how envious she is of Qi Yan’s looks, skin that never tans, bright phoenix eyes, a straight little nose bridge, bright red lips, even as a woman, she felt moved, let alone men?

...

At seven the next morning, Luo Ye and Zhu Hongyu arrived at the Female Soldier Ninth Company.

The notification for the selection had long been issued, and in addition to the announcement brought by Xue Fengqi yesterday, the division had also sent a notification to Ninth Company for full preparation.
