Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1368: Chapter 816: The True Reason Behind the Forced Marriage

”Ye’er, since we’re on the topic of your marriage with Xiao Xuan, Great Grandpa wants to ask you: is it okay to discuss your marriage now?”

Luo Ye rubbed her forehead speechlessly. When did she become so isolated? Her own family was pressuring her, and her in-laws were pressuring her too. Wasn’t she allowed to live?

Seeing Luo Ye’s thoughts, Grandpa explained, ”Ye’er, Great Grandpa isn’t forcing you. Your grandparents and parents are planning to go to the Luo Family to discuss the wedding date. Great Grandpa thinks it’s better to hear Ye’er’s opinion first.

If Ye’er feels it’s appropriate, let them arrange it. If Ye’er wants two more years of freedom, let them not rush and make things awkward for everyone.

Great Grandpa knows Ye’er isn’t a pretentious girl, so just say what you think. No matter what Ye’er’s answer is, Great Grandpa will support unconditionally.”

Having said so much, Luo Ye couldn’t be vague anymore. After thinking about it, she looked at Grandpa seriously, ”Great Grandpa, things have been continuous recently, and I haven’t had time to think carefully. Can you give me two more days?”

”Sure, and if two days isn’t enough, you can have more. Great Grandpa is asking now because he doesn’t want your father-in-law and mother-in-law to fuss aimlessly.

Marriage is a lifelong matter, and the parties involved must think it through completely. Great Grandpa doesn’t want Ye’er to be forced into marrying into the Ye Family.

If forced into marriage, no matter how happy, Ye’er will occasionally feel wronged.” Grandpa looked at Ye Xuan, ”Xiao Xuan, don’t you think so?”

”Yes.” Ye Xuan responded with a heavy heart. The conversation had reached this point, and he couldn’t possibly say no.

At this point in the conversation, Luo Ye felt something was off. Grandpa liking her very much was undeniable, but with Grandpa’s disposition, even if he wanted her to marry into the Ye Family quickly, he wouldn’t pressure her like this.

Grandpa’s words sounded considerate, but upon deeper scrutiny, they left her no choice.

If she genuinely expressed not wanting to marry soon, where would the face of the Ye Family elders, including Grandpa’s face go?

Could she do such a thing? The answer was no!

So, Grandpa’s actions were indeed pushing her to marry into the Ye Family sooner. Could it be... Luo Ye became serious, ”Great Grandpa, what exactly is happening? Please tell me directly. Trust in my ability to handle it.”

Grandpa coughed lightly and cleared his throat, ”There’s nothing, really. I just want Ye’er to consider carefully and not feel wronged.”

Luo Ye shook her head, ”Great Grandpa, we haven’t known each other for just a day. Your persuasion didn’t give me a choice at all, so please just tell me the truth.”

”Alright, Great Grandpa is a bit narrow-minded. Great Grandpa is worried about losing a great granddaughter-in-law like Ye’er, so I’m pushing you a bit.

Even though Ye’er hasn’t graduated yet, there are already so many outstanding young men eyeing her. Once she officially starts working, there’ll probably be more with ideas, so it’s safer to marry her home earlier.

Great Grandpa’s approach might not be straightforward, but considering my age, can you overlook it, Ye’er?”

While Grandpa was speaking, Wen Song, Wen Bai, and Wen Tong all had solemn expressions, making Luo Ye feel even more suspicious. There was definitely something going on! And everyone knew it except her!

Luo Ye stared straight at Ye Xuan, ”I believe you know what’s really happening. If you trust me, tell me.”

Ye Xuan sighed lightly and looked to Grandpa for confirmation, ”Great Grandpa, we should tell Ye’er. It would be better if she knows.”

”Alright.” Grandpa smiled wryly, ”It’s no wonder people have thoughts like that. With Ye’er’s intelligence, who wouldn’t like her?”

Luo Ye frowned tightly. From Grandpa’s tone, the issue was with her. Could it be the Feng Family?

It shouldn’t be. When Feng Tianzhi left, everything was clearly stated. Besides, even if the Feng Family approached the Wen Family for marriage behind Feng Tianzhi’s back, there was no need for Grandpa to act like this. The Feng Family doesn’t have the qualifications to worry Grandpa.

”Ye’er’s performance in the Yuanzhou Mine case was reported fairly and caught Chairman Qian’s attention. His son, Qian Xia, is twenty-five this year, a doctoral graduate returning from France last month, and will be appointed in a ministry next February.

Chairman Qian believes Ye’er would be an ideal daughter-in-law and has begun preparations to propose to the Wen Family. The rest, I think Ye’er understands, right?”

”I understand.” Luo Ye nodded. Chairman Qian was the third leader, quite a decent person, but he didn’t get along well with the Ye Family.

Or you could say his concern was more about how the growing strength of the Ye Family might restrict certain decisions.

In fact, those familiar with the Ye Family’s style all know that if the Ye Family Patriarch truly had such ambitions, how could it have developed to today? And how could they have allowed it to develop to this day?

No matter how powerful a family is, it cannot contend with the state; this is an eternal truth. Unfortunately, Chairman Qian seems to be caught in a blind alley.

He may not truly fancy Luo Ye; it’s just that the alliance between the Ye Family and the Wen Family is probably the last thing he wants to see. Or, in his view, this approach might mean sacrificing his own son.

If he agreed, the Wen Family and the Ye Family would completely oppose each other. If not, the Qian Family and the Wen Family would also oppose each other. Perhaps, this is Chairman Qian’s thinking. For someone of his status, such actions seem rather petty.

”Whether it’s the Ye Family or the Wen Family, they are not afraid of him. However, if this matter is not handled well and causes other leaders to have some thoughts, that would be troublesome.

Originally, we didn’t want Ye’er to be anxious about this, so we intended to keep it from her. As a result, this girl is too clever, and we couldn’t hide it from her anyway.”

Grandpa said these words to everyone, and although he sighed, his expression was extremely relaxed. Clearly, for Grandpa, who has experienced countless storms in his lifetime, this matter was not a big deal.

Luo Ye furrowed her brows tightly, ”Great Grandpa, if the other party really has that kind of intention, won’t they refuse to give up even if we set the date now?”

”He just spread some rumors, so we must set the wedding date before he comes to propose. That way, it’s easier to refuse, and others can’t mediate easily.”

”Regarding this matter, solely from a rational standpoint, whether or not we set the wedding date, the Qian Family is in the wrong. Most people in the circle know about Ye’er and Xiao Xuan, including several leaders.

But in front of certain matters, true reasoning may not stand firm. That’s why we need to think of such a way. Ye’er, you and Xiao Xuan are in love, so getting married early is good, to avoid something like this happening again.” Wen Song, being the eldest of the Wen Family, said this, representing the stance of the Wen Family.

”Alright, I will follow the arrangements of the elders. I just wonder how someone in such a high position can lack a bit of tolerance? Such actions are simply embarrassing.” Towards the end, Luo Ye almost gritted her teeth.

”Ye’er, calm down.” Hua Rong gently patted Luo Ye’s back. ”Anyway, you and Xiao Xuan have been together for so many years. Marriage is inevitable.”

”I know, I just can’t stand such people’s actions.” Luo Ye pouted. ”Also, if you can hide from the first day, you can’t hide from the fifteenth. Facing him is also inevitable. I quite dislike such people, who consider themselves paragons of justice, hmph!”

”How should I put it, Chairman Qian is actually not a bad person. He has always had the people’s interests at heart. However, he has been overly cautious of several major families over the years.

In recent years, the Yang Family has declined, the Hang Family lacks successors, the Wen Family focuses on commerce, the Feng Family is weakening, and the Yu Family is declining further. The only thing bothering him left is the Ye Family.

Especially since Jia’an was promoted as deputy commander of the Beijing Military District, his dislike for the Ye Family has reached an extreme. If it weren’t for the support of No. 1 and No. 2, those in office from the Ye Family would probably be affected.”

Grandpa sighed heavily, ”If this matter is really brought to the forefront, there wouldn’t be many who support the Ye Family, as the gun shoots the bird that sticks out!”

”Great Grandpa...” Luo Ye paused. ”Did I make things difficult for you?”

”Silly Ye’er, what are you saying?” Grandpa glared at Luo Ye. ”Never say such silly things again. Being ambitious isn’t a bad thing. There aren’t many girls with the kind of vision Ye’er has. Xiao Xuan is lucky to have met Ye’er.”

When Grandpa said this, everyone finally understood what Luo Ye meant. If she wasn’t a career-oriented child, she would have already married Ye Xuan, and today’s difficulty wouldn’t exist.

”Don’t take others’ mistakes upon yourself.” Ye Xuan gazed at Luo Ye. ”Whether now or in the future, whatever Ye’er wants to do, she should do.”

”Xiao Xuan, it must be hard for you.” Wen Song sighed. ”Ye’er’s Grandma and Grandpa, and her parents aren’t here, so I’ll represent the Luo Family and the Wen Family to state our position.

Of course, this is also the consensus we reached during our previous discussions. To be fair, finding a suitable family for an outstanding girl like Ye’er without letting her suffer isn’t easy.

You are willing to give up your achievements of many years for Ye’er, and we all know this.” He then turned to Luo Ye, ”Ye’er, in the future, don’t just let Xiao Xuan sacrifice for you. In a relationship, both must make concessions.”

Luo Ye quickly nodded, ”I will.”

These words, she meant them sincerely. She was very aware of how much Ye Xuan had given up for her. Unlike Feng Tianzhi, who is more easy-going, Ye Xuan considers things more deeply and for the long term. It’s precisely because of this that his sacrifice is even more valuable.

Perhaps marrying earlier isn’t a bad thing, after all.

”Tomorrow, I’ll go find Captain Zhu and ask her to find another assistant. The Female Special Forces Team’s initial phase will definitely be busy. I can’t delay her.” Luo Ye looked to the elders for approval. (To be continued.
