Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1367: Chapter 815: Covert Forced Marriage

”Son-in-law, for such a matter to ask for Great Grandpa’s help is really quite embarrassing.” Grandma Hua stopped her actions, leaning in to echo Grandpa.

”Son-in-law, I’ve just been too embarrassed to bring it up, which is why I haven’t gotten married yet.” Aji also leaned in to say.

Grandpa looked at his grandson with an expression full of satisfaction, ”Did you hear that, both Aji and Ah Hua are making fun of you.”

”Alright, you practice slowly, I’ll go and greet the other elders.” Ye Xuan said as he quickly made a getaway, slipping away with ease.

With them, there’s really no reasoning to be had, if he can’t afford to offend them, then better to avoid them!

As for the marriage, he naturally has his own plans, and would occasionally remind Luo Ye, but this must absolutely not be let known to the elders, otherwise, they would laugh at him even more.

...

Four months into the pregnancy, Hua Rong felt noticeably more fatigued, needing to lie down and rest from time to time each day.

Half awake and half asleep, she heard a slight noise at the door, she immediately opened her eyes, her eyes filling with a smile: ”Ye’er, you’re back?”

”Don’t get up, just lie down.” Luo Ye hurriedly stepped forward to hold her down, ”How are you feeling now?”

”Pretty good, I stopped vomiting since the week before last, just get tired easily and have become quite lazy.” Hua Rong said as she moved up the bed, comfortably leaning against the headboard.

Luo Ye sat down next to her: ”Since you’re a doctor yourself, I won’t pretend to be an expert, what would you like to eat tonight? I’ll inform Nanny Zhang in advance.”

”Anything is fine, my appetite is really good now.” Hua Rong said as she pinched her waist, ”There’s now a thick layer of fat here, I’ll be busy after giving birth.”

”How many pounds have you gained?”

”Six pounds.”

”Gaining six pounds in four months isn’t too much, but...” Luo Ye paused and chuckled softly, ”I feel like playing expert again, in this aspect, you know more than I do, I’m sure you’ve been keeping an eye on your weight, right?”

”Yes, I’ve been eating more fruits recently, and also more coarse fiber foods, meat, eggs, and seafood, I’ve reduced the amount a bit.” Hua Rong moved closer to Luo Ye, smiling embarrassedly, ”With my mother-in-law not here these days, I can control it, if she returns, could Ye’er help explain a bit, please?”

”Sure, no problem.” Luo Ye also laughed, Grandma is quite open-minded, but when it comes to things like pregnancy and childbirth, she still holds to the old generation’s view, believing that eating more and being well-nourished makes both mother and child healthy.

”Ye’er, I’m not exaggerating at all when I say that just looking at pig’s feet and fish soup now makes my stomach reflexively turn sour.”

”Alright, I got it, I’ll talk to Grandma about it.” Luo Ye patted her empathetically, ”Too much care can also be a burden.”

”I wouldn’t put it that way, I really enjoy my mother-in-law’s care, it’s just that my stomach can’t quite handle it, and I do feel quite guilty...”

Luo Ye interrupted her: ”Alright, alright, no need to get all sour about it, do you want to get up and take a walk with me?”

”Okay then.” Hua Rong said as she got out of bed, ”Usually, Xiao Ke and Little Pumpkin would come over to keep me company, these days without them around, I’m really not used to it.”

”Your little uncle couldn’t keep you company?” Luo Ye’s brow furrowed ever so slightly, her little uncle wouldn’t be so unreliable, would he?

”Ye’er, he’s doing well now, but the Wen Family has so much going on, I can’t have everyone bending over backward because of me.

Besides, you know your little uncle’s personality, always hanging around him is quite boring. It’s still more fun with Xiao Ke and Little Pumpkin.

Of course, Ye’er is the most fun, but Ye’er is so busy, time to come over is limited, so I still place my hopes on Xiao Ke and Little Pumpkin; it’s more reliable that way.”

”Little aunt, do you have to make yourself sound so pitiful?” Luo Ye looked at her with a line of black on his forehead, ”And besides, could my little uncle really be considered boring?”

”Yes, of course, he’s boring.” Hua Rong nodded her head seriously, ”It’s the same few phrases over and over, don’t you think it’s boring?”

”Alright, he’s too boring, then let me accompany you.” Luo Ye said as he helped Hua Rong, ”Old Buddha, your chariot awaits!”

”Here.” Hua Rong cooperatively replied.

”Haha...” Luo Ye couldn’t help but burst into laughter, ”Little aunt, how could the Old Buddha say that word? You’re clearly stealing lines.”

Hua Rong couldn’t hold back her laughter either: ”Originally, ’setting off’ should have been my line, but you stole it first, which confused me.”

The two of them laughed as they went downstairs, only to see Ye Xuan sitting alone in the hall reading a newspaper, ”Eh, why aren’t you accompanying Great Grandpa?” Luo Ye asked in confusion.

”I wanted to greet the elders, but none of them are home.” Ye Xuan said as he stood up, ”Little aunt, how’s your health?”

”Pretty good. By the way, I heard that you will be working in Sha City in the future, is that true?”

”Yes, I’ll be able to come over frequently to see the elders.”

”You mean to see Ye’er frequently, right?” Hua Rong teased with a smile, ”In front of your little aunt, no need to hide it, having Ye’er on your mind is nothing to be embarrassed about.”

”Yes, mainly to see Ye’er, otherwise I wouldn’t have applied to transfer to Sha City.” Mr. Ye said this with a very serious expression, Hua Rong couldn’t help but smile and nudge Luo Ye, ”How do you feel?”

Luo Ye shrugged his shoulders, ”Getting more and more professional in lip service.”

”I’m telling the truth.” Ye Xuan discontentedly rubbed Luo Ye’s head, ”Don’t belittle me like that again. Whatever you want to eat, I’ll be the chef tonight.”

”I’ll gladly take advantage of that.” Hua Rong laughed with her eyes curled into crescents, ”Ye’er, marrying Ye Xuan means you’ll never have to worry about meals.”

Luo Ye’s face darkened, ”Even if I don’t marry him, would I starve?” As she spoke, she pulled Hua Rong out of the main hall, leaving Ye Xuan helplessly shaking his head as he entered the kitchen.

Nanny Zhang and Nanny Yu were busy picking vegetables and quickly stood up: ”Son-in-law, what would you like to eat?”

”I’ll cook dinner tonight.” Ye Xuan’s tone was firm.

”How’s that alright?” Nanny Zhang and Nanny Yu looked bewildered, having worked here for many years without ever seeing a Wen Family man in the kitchen.

The two intended to refuse Ye Xuan, but felt they lacked the authority to decline since he was practically the son-in-law. Yet, not refusing seemed wrong too; how could they let him cook?

”Go out.” Ye Xuan said as he found an apron and tied it on.

”This...” Zhang and Yu each held a few stalks of chives, unsure whether to stay or go, looking conflicted.

Luo Ye timely appeared at the kitchen door: ”Nanny Zhang, Nanny Yu, go out and accompany Aunt, let him cook.”

”Yes, Second Miss.”

Nanny Zhang and Nanny Yu put down the chives and hurriedly sprinted out of the main hall as if relieved.

”Look at you, you scared them.” Luo Ye walked up and patted Ye Xuan, ”Do your best and make it tasty.”

”Is there a reward?”

Luo Ye tilted her head and gave him a sideways glance, ”Giving you the chance to show off is already the reward, what else do you want? Hm?”

”Ye’er is right. Well then, tonight you’ll test my cooking skills. Marry me soon, and you can often eat my meals.”

Luo Ye raised an eyebrow, ”If I don’t marry you, you won’t cook for me?”

”Alright, I admit I’m wrong.” Ye Xuan helplessly rubbed her head, ”Little ancestor, would you feel uncomfortable if you didn’t tease me a bit?”

”If you can’t stand it, retreat early to avoid regret later.” Luo Ye said, then ran off, not giving Ye Xuan a chance to argue.

...

The younger generation of the Wen Family was in Ludong, while Mr. Wen and Mrs. Wen were in Island City. Hence, at dinner, besides Grand Old Master Ye and Aji Ah Hua, there was Second Uncle Wen Bai, Little Uncle Wen Tong, Aunt Li Niangying, and Little Aunt Hua Rong.

At the servants’ table, the dishes were also made by Young Master Ye.

Initially, upon hearing Ye Xuan cooked dinner, everyone mentally decided, regardless of the taste, they would act like it was delicious out of courtesy.

However, as they ate bite after bite, everyone’s concerns faded, even the always-reserved Aunt let her chopsticks fly.

Ye Xuan’s cooking was tasty; moreover, changing from the usual flavors increased everyone’s appetite.

While eating, Wen Bai suddenly lamented repeatedly, ”What a pity, such a pity.” Everyone’s puzzled gazes turned to him. ”If Mom and Dad were here, they’d surely be delighted with Xiao Xuan.” Wen Bai said.

Everyone was speechless; businessmen truly are sly. His words obviously hoped Ye Xuan would often showcase his skills in the future.

After dinner, they chatted in the living room, where the elders praised Ye Xuan’s culinary skills again, making the originally composed Ye Xuan somewhat restless.

Seeing his unease, Hua Rong quickly helped, ”The food was delicious because Ye Xuan truly put effort into it, showing he genuinely regards the Wen Family as his own.”

”Was dinner cooked by Xiao Xuan?” Wen Song entered just in time and asked upon hearing Hua Rong’s words.

”Yes, we all benefited from Ye’er’s fortune. You missed out on the feast; it’s been eaten up.” Li Niangying said while getting up to take her husband’s coat and bag and hang them up.

”No worries, I’ll have my share.” Wen Song said as he sat on the sofa, ”Xiao Xuan, going to work tomorrow?”

”Yes, tomorrow.” Ye Xuan nodded, ”But I have a request; Uncle, just pretend not to know me at work, I don’t want any gossip.”

Luo Ye shot him a glance, ”Isn’t that just covering your ears and stealing a bell?”

”At that time, only Director Liu and Secretary Wang saw me. As long as they don’t say anything, others won’t know.”

”Alright, I’ll speak to them about it.” Wen Song patted Ye Xuan, ”We’ve all seen what you do for Ye’er. As for your marriage, Uncle is fully supportive.”

”How did the conversation turn to me again?” Luo Ye looked at her uncle speechlessly, ”Do you all see me as someone who can’t get married, so you keep reminding me?”

”That’s not it.” Wen Song seriously looked at his niece, ”It’s not easy for Xiao Xuan to achieve this. Ye’er, it would be beneficial for both of you if you settled down early.”

”Have some water.” Li Niangying handed her husband a glass of water and discreetly pinched him, clearly displeased with his overreaching. (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to visit Qidian () to cast recommendation or monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
