Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 925: Chapter 554: Visiting the Bai Family (2)

Wen Yan glanced at her: ”Enough, if you get any smarter, how will anyone else live?”

”Xiao Yan is right, Ye’er should stop getting smarter, any smarter and you’ll stop being human, pfft pfft pfft...” Old Mrs. Wen repeatedly patted her mouth, self-reproachingly, ”Look at me, what nonsense am I saying!”

”Grandma, you’re actually complimenting me, I love hearing it.” Luo Ye said as she changed the subject, ”Grandma, how long has it been since you returned to Great Grandmother’s place?”

”About seventeen years, I suppose.” Old Mrs. Wen sighed heavily, ”Ever since your Great Grandmother and Great Grandpa passed away, after the unpleasantness, I haven’t gone back. It’s not that I don’t want to return; I just don’t want any misunderstandings.

This time, I’ve decided to go back because I feel I’m getting older, and if I don’t mend the relationship now, I might carry regrets to the grave.

In the end, we are family, and we don’t have any deep hatred. Your Uncle Grandpa is a proud person, so waiting for him to come and find Grandma is impossible. Therefore, it’s better for Grandma to take the initiative.”

Luo Ye quickly comforted her: ”Grandma, don’t be sad. So many years have passed, maybe Uncle Grandpa misses you too, but he’s too embarrassed to take the initiative.

And you, having your own concerns, were reluctant to contact Uncle Grandpa. By a twist of fate, you both haven’t met for all these years.

Isn’t there a saying that good things take time? Maybe after you meet, you will find things aren’t like what you imagined. What do you think, Grandma?”

Old Mrs. Wen laughed: ”Ye’er, your little mouth really speaks well.”

Wen Yan chimed in: ”That’s right, Ye’er could talk a dead person back to life.”

”Big brother, are you praising me or scolding me?” Luo Ye angrily grabbed Wen Yan’s ear, ”I’ve realized, ever since you started working, you’ve been getting more cheeky. Admit it, have you been flattering girls, honing your speaking skills?”

Wen Yan smiled bitterly: ”Do you think I’m that kind of person?”

”Absolutely!” Luo Ye nodded earnestly, not forgetting to involve Grandma, ”Grandma, don’t you think I’m right?”

Old Mrs. Wen hugged her granddaughter and kissed her: ”Ye’er, you really are Grandma’s treasure!”

”Oh, oh...” Wen Yan smacked his lips, ”Grandma, could you get any more sentimental?”

Old Mrs. Wen lightly slapped her grandson’s forehead: ”Ye’er’s been joking around to lighten my mood, you think Grandma doesn’t understand?”

The few of them chatted and laughed, and an hour didn’t seem that long. When an old locust tree, thick enough for two to wrap their arms around, appeared before them, Old Mrs. Wen’s eyes turned moist: ”That tree was my childhood favorite. Every spring, it would bloom with locust flowers, and it looked just gorgeous.

I loved eating locust flower pancakes, your Uncle Grandpa would climb up to pick a lot and bring them home. He’d wash them clean and bring them to Great Grandmother to steam, and I could have several meals with them.

Now thinking back, it feels like it all happened just yesterday, but looking in the mirror, I’m already an elderly person nearing the grave, and your Great Grandmother has been gone for nearly twenty years.”

Luo Ye quickly embraced the reminiscing Grandma: ”Grandma, cheer up, we’re almost there. You should be happy.”

Old Mrs. Wen quickly wiped her eyes: ”Yes, yes, if I go looking so glum, Uncle Grandpa might think I came to see him reluctantly.”

The Bai family lives in a German-style villa — five floors tall. From the outside, it looks like a large estate; including the villa, it spans about two thousand square meters. It can’t compare with the Wen Family estate, but it’s top-notch in this city.

When the car reached the gate, Old Mrs. Wen instructed: ”Wen Bao, stop the car. I want to walk in.”

”Yes, madam.” Wen Bao answered, quickly pulling the car over. As the door opened simultaneously, the courtyard gate creaked open, and an elderly man hobbled out, sizing up the car, and then the people who had just disembarked: ”Who are you looking for?”

Old Mrs. Wen eagerly went forward: ”Brother Ping, it’s me, I’m Yanrui, can you still recognize me?”

”Yanrui?” The old man’s murky eyes suddenly brightened, ”Miss, you’ve finally come back. So many years have passed, I’ve finally seen you again. I was thinking I might never see you in this life. Miss, how have you been all these years?”

Old Mrs. Wen nodded: ”Pretty good, I’ve been quite well. Brother Ping, is your health good too?”

Ping grinned: ”I can eat two bowls of rice at each meal. Miss, do you think I’m healthy?”

”How is Brother’s health?” Old Mrs. Wen’s voice choked up.
