Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 903: Chapter 544: Unexpected

”The investments from Yedai Group and L.L International have been entirely withdrawn, which means that Sha City’s investment promotion this time has become a joke...” Wen Song’s eyes fixed on Director Liu’s face, ”Director Liu, do you know why I called you here?”

Director Liu’s face changed color in an instant, quickly standing up with a look of panic, ”Secretary, I’m sorry!”

Watching the beads of sweat starting to roll down Director Liu’s face, Wen Song withdrew his gaze, ”Xiao Liu, saying ’sorry’ doesn’t solve any problems, sit down.”

”Yes.” Director Liu responded like a mosquito or fly, sitting back down slowly, but his expression did not relax.

The investment promotion had originally been Ye Aicheng’s responsibility, and after gaining the upper hand, she volunteered to handle the negotiations with L.L International, which stated it would only negotiate with her... Now that things had reached this point, she naturally had to take responsibility. The promotion she had been hoping for was now out of the question; the key issue was whether she would be reassigned, which was her greatest anxiety.

”Secretary, with our status, the Six Great Families probably won’t pay attention to us, what do you think...” Ye Aicheng hesitated to continue.

Wen Song waved his hand with a calm expression, ”You two should not get involved in this matter, Minister Qin is already working on a solution. Once the specific results come out, then you can negotiate with the other party.”

”That’s great, really great.” Ye Aicheng became excited, ”I believe, with Minister Qin stepping in, the matter can be resolved completely.”

”I called you two here just to inform you that although the other party’s investment has been withdrawn, the news hasn’t spread. You should go about your business as usual and not let this become Sha City’s biggest laughingstock. Xiao Liu, you continue to participate, understood?”

”Understood, understood.” Director Liu’s face instantly showed joy. Was the secretary’s statement an indication that her position was secure?

”Don’t be happy too soon. We’ll talk specifics once this matter blows over.” Wen Song glanced at her, ”Recently, you were a bit disrespectful to Director Ye, wasn’t that inappropriate?”

”Secretary, I was wrong! I was truly wrong.” Director Liu’s face turned ashen instantly.

Originally, she was only half a level below Ye Aicheng. With the backing of L.L International, she got a bit carried away... She really wanted to slap herself. She always joked that others lost their bearings after being promoted, but when it came to herself, even before the promotion, she was already disoriented...

”Meeting adjourned!” Wen Song stood up and took two steps, then looked back, ”If someone asks, do you know what to say?”

Ye Aicheng replied without hesitation, ”Negotiations are in progress.”

”Me too.” Director Liu quickly answered as she came back to her senses.

Once Wen Song’s figure disappeared, the two of them both exhaled in relief. Director Liu hesitated for a moment, then looked at Ye Aicheng, ”Director Ye, everyone makes mistakes, please forgive me.”

”It’s alright, I didn’t take it to heart at all.” Ye Aicheng smiled and waved her hand, then also turned and left the conference room, leaving Director Liu alone to continue in a daze. Suddenly, a flash of insight crossed her mind, and she quickly stood up and left the office.

...

The Yodan Family in Japan.

Yoda Song and Noda Hikari stood with their heads bowed in the center of the hall, with elders of the Yodan Family seated on both sides. Naturally, the head of the Yodan Family, Yoda Jiu Zhi, sat at the central seat of honor.

The father and daughter had not yet adjusted to the time difference after their return when they were summoned to attend this family meeting, or perhaps it would be more appropriate to call it a criticism meeting.

”Good for nothing!”

Old Ye Tian banged the table loudly, startling everyone present.

Yoda Song bowed deeply, ”Father, please punish me!”

”Prepare for Hui Zi to get married in three days. The details will be explained to you by the eldest.” As Old Ye Tian spoke, he struggled to stand up. Already in his eighties, he cared more about the Yodan Family’s fate than anything else at this age.

The bodyguard draped a coat over Old Ye Tian and assisted him as he slowly walked out.

”Grandpa, I have something to say!” Noda Hikari hurriedly exclaimed.

Old Ye Tian paused his steps and turned to look at her, his murky eyes revealing a glint of sharpness.

”I can infiltrate the corporation. In the future, there might still be a chance to reclaim the Yodan Family’s assets.” In order to convince the other party of her determination, Noda Hikari spoke almost word by word.

Yoda Song also looked expectantly at Old Ye Tian. He was already aware of his daughter’s success in earning Luo Ye’s forgiveness and trust, so this approach was, in every aspect, the best.

If his daughter succeeded, he, as the father, naturally stood to gain the most; even if she failed, it wouldn’t be much of a loss for him. As for the Sakai family, he was well aware of their ways and didn’t have much expectation of them.

Old Ye Tian scrutinized Yamakawa Hikari for a while, narrowing his eyes, ”Just you?”

”Yes, just me. I know who acquired Yedai Group and each of their strengths. Grandpa, please believe me, give me a chance, and also give the Yodan Family a chance.”

Given the current situation of the Yodan Family, even if I marry into the Sakai family with their foolish son, how much benefit can it really bring? Our positions are fundamentally unequal; how can they possibly respect us?”

Old Ye Tian pondered for a moment, nodded slightly, ”Let me think about it. It’s over now. Second son, come with me.”

”Yes!” Yoda Song responded respectfully, took two steps, then turned to instruct Yoda Hui Zi, ”Hui Zi, you go home first and tell mom that Grandpa has something to discuss with Dad, and he’ll come back later.”

”Yes, Father.” Noda Hikari bowed her head, her expression unseen.

...

”Sister, you’re back!” As Noda Hikari stepped into the house, the petite and delicate Yodan Yasuko came out cheerfully to greet her, followed by Mizuki, who wore a similarly joyful expression.

”Mom, I’m back. Yasuko, what’s making you so happy?” Noda Hikari asked, looking puzzled at the mother and daughter.

Mizuki came forward, holding her wrist affectionately, ”Hui Zi, you’re getting married soon. Of course, Mom and your sister are happy. The dress is ready, and your sister will be your bridesmaid. Aren’t you excited?”

Seemingly concerned, but actually gloating! Noda Hikari hid the disdain in her eyes and looked warmly at Mizuki, ”Mom, you are so good to me, but I’m afraid the wedding has been canceled, my apologies.”

”What?” Yasuko was incredulous, ”Sister, how could such a good marriage be canceled? It’s supposed to save the Yodan Family, how can it be canceled?”

Noda Hikari glanced at her lightly, ”If this marriage is so good, why doesn’t my sister marry into the Sakai family instead?”

”I...” Yodan Yasuko hesitated, her face reddening, ”I’m already engaged to Miyatazaki, how can I marry into the Sakai family?”

Mizuki wrinkled her brow and intervened, ”Hui Zi, how can you talk to your sister like that? Mom knows you’re a bit unhappy about Yasuko and Miyatazaki’s engagement, but they truly love each other. How can Hui Zi be so unreasonable?”

”I’m tired, I’d like to go back to my room to rest.” Noda Hikari, unwilling to deal with the two of them, turned and walked towards her bedroom.

”Stop!” Yasuko quickly blocked her path, glaring at her with anger, ”Hui Zi, tell me the truth, have you been plotting to take Miyatazaki away? I’m telling you, he likes me!”

Noda Hikari raised her eyebrows at her, ”If he likes you, what are you worried about?”

”Who... who’s worried?” Yasuko’s eyes kept darting as she spoke, knowing better than anyone who Miyatazaki truly liked. She was desperate for Noda Hikari to get married soon to squash Miyatazaki’s thoughts.

”If you’re not worried, why do you care about what I think?” Noda Hikari sighed lightly, ”Mom, Yasuko, we all know how our relationships really are. Without Dad here, what’s the point of pretending?”

”That would be the best thing!” Yasuko huffed, ”I’m telling you, you’re marrying into the Sakai family no matter what. No matter what happens, the final result is that you’ll have to marry over there.

Sister, I’m telling you kindly, Yamakawa Shonan might be slow, but in other aspects, he’s just like normal people, even stronger. Sister, marrying him will make you happy!”

Noda Hikari looked at her angrily, ”As an unmarried girl, don’t you have any sense of shame?”

”Hui Zi, you should understand how difficult it is for an unmarried girl to say these things, but Yasuko is telling you this in advance to make sure your marriage is less aggrieved. Shouldn’t you thank her?”

”Thank you, thank you so much for thinking... about me.” Noda Hikari said and returned to her room without looking back, shutting the door tightly, letting the tears flow freely.

From the moment she became sensible, she couldn’t count the number of confrontations like this. She truly didn’t understand; since her childhood, she never competed with Yasuko for anything, yet Yasuko was always fighting for anything related to her. The mother and daughter acted too well; in outsiders’ eyes, it appeared that she was the one who was unreasonable.

Perhaps, the bankruptcy of the Yodan family was actually a good thing for her; she could finally end this false life...

”...No, I don’t, Dad, this is Hui Zi’s idea, isn’t it? How could she be so vicious? How could you listen to her...”

Awakened, Noda Hikari sat up abruptly, puzzled as she rubbed her head. When did she fall asleep? What exactly happened to make Yasuko so agitated?

After a messy rush of footsteps, a frantic knocking sound resonated, accompanied by Yasuko’s sharp voice, ”Hui Zi, come out, right now!”

Noda Hikari rubbed her forehead in pain, got out of bed, and opened the door, ”Yasuko, what’s going on?”

”What’s going on? How dare you ask what’s going on...”

”Yasuko, shut up!” Yoda Song’s stern voice came through, ”This matter is not as simple as you think. Both of you, come out.”

Nu’an’s first watch is up, special thanks to ”Jiu Ai” for the reward, thanks to all the guys who gave pinks to Nu’an. There’s another watch tonight, and Nu’an will continue to work hard. It is estimated to be around eleven o’clock, so those who sleep early can watch it tomorrow morning. (To be continued.
