She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 67: Chapter 067 A Slap in the Face

Cuifen returned only an hour later and, after rejoining the troupe, she deliberately walked over to Sheng Ning with a smug smile on her face.

“Wait until the disciplinary inspectors arrive, you’ll have quite a show.”

“I heard Shen Jian Guo came to see you yesterday?”

Sheng Ning stopped practicing her dance moves, “What do you want to say? Just spit it out!”

Finally, Cuifen’s expression darkened, her favored man had given her such special attention. How she hated it! She couldn’t swallow this affront.

“You have no shame.”

“How am I shameless?” Sheng Ning’s calm face finally curved into a mocking smile. “Who was it that used to badger me every day to chase after Shen Jian Guo?”

Cuifen clenched her teeth, livid beyond words. She had always looked down on Sheng Ning for being brainless and foolish, convinced that Shen Jian Guo would never like her, and that’s why she had urged her to pursue him. That way, she could appear as a good friend and curry favor with him.

Who would’ve thought that Shen Jian Guo actually took a fancy to her?

Don’t think she didn’t know what a man’s gaze at a woman looked like. Before joining the union, Widow Zhang had taught her quite a bit.

“I was blind to have become friends with you in the past.”

“You like Shen Jian Guo, don’t you?” Sheng Ning stood half a head taller than her, now nodding slightly with a disdainful look in her eyes.

That gaze was chilling to the bone.

Cuifen cast a wary glance at her, wondering in her heart. The person who had been so stupid from childhood, whom she played like putty in her hands, did she really think that with this act she would be scared of her?

Wait and see, she won’t be laughing in a bit.

“I do like him, you know I like him, yet you deliberately seduce him. You and your mother, both sluts, promiscuous…” Cuifen hadn’t finished her sentence when Sheng Ning raised her hand and delivered a slap.

“Slap…” The crisp sound of the slap silenced the entire practice room, and the music of Butterfly Lovers stopped abruptly in the air.

The young musician holding the instrument gaped at Sheng Ning in disbelief.

A flash of triumph appeared in Cuifen’s eyes. Humph! She had purposely angered her, letting her impulsively hit herself. Now she would let everyone know how unruly and brutish she was, and see if Shen Jian Guo would still like her.

Lu Xiaoshuang came over angrily, accusing loudly, “Sheng Ning, how could you hit someone for no reason?”

“It wasn’t for no reason,” Sheng Ning rubbed her palm, looking at Cuifen with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, constantly apologizing, “Cuifen, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. Does it hurt? I didn’t expect to hit you as I turned around; we are good sisters who grew up together, you won’t blame me, will you?”

Lu Xiao heard what Sheng Ning said and looked puzzled.

Had they misunderstood something? Recalling the scene on stage during the gala, Lu Xiao couldn’t help but take a step back unconsciously.

Cuifen was waiting for Lu Xiao to stand up for her! Normally, as long as she appeared weak and pitiful, that fool Lu Xiao would rush to her defense without hesitation.

Why did she suddenly stop talking halfway?

“Sheng Ning, even though we are sisters, you…” Cuifen deliberately stretched out her tone, waiting for Lu Xiao to pick up and give Sheng Ning a good scolding.

But she dragged on without getting a response, so she had to silently signal Zhou Xuelian, with whom she had a good relationship within the same group.

As soon as Zhou Xuelian received Cuifen’s look and opened her mouth to speak, Chen Huaying covered her mouth with her hand.

“Keep it to yourself,” Chen Huaying looked on with interest at Sheng Ning, holding Zhou Xuelian’s mouth shut with quite a force.

She might not be the best in the Song and Dance Troupe, but her word was law. Zhou Xuelian hurriedly nodded, daring not say another word.
