Bear School Astartes

”He really is low on blood, and... very severely!”

On the floor of Oton Chapel, Yusefka was examining the Demon Hunter lying on the ground.

”Given his current condition, it’s normal to say he’s lost more than half of his blood, but how could...?”

Dr. Yanan with flaxen hair spoke incredulously.

No wounds on his body, and his physique was very full, weighing even far more than what someone of his physique should weigh.

He didn’t seem to be severely blood-deprived at all.

For Yusefka, the current condition of Lann was something she had never seen before.

So Miss Doctor appeared cautious and hesitant.

”In the past, if it was a case of blood loss, I would have given him a transfusion right away.”

Yusefka lifted her head from her kneeling position and looked at the worried crowd gathered around.

”But now...”

She spoke while shaking her head.

Evidently, after experiencing a hunt that revealed all of Yan’an’s secrets and the shadows of history, even Yusefka, raised since childhood in the Healing Church Orphanage.

Her first response was: if this blood transfusion can be avoided, then it should be avoided?

The three Yan Nan Hunters present, Henrik, Gascogne, and Maria, silently nodded in agreement.

In fact, even for the hunter community in Yan Nan, which is most dependent on and addicted to blood, the three of them, now that the sun has risen and there’s no need to hunt anymore, also keep a respectful distance from the blood vials on their person.

The three hunters’ blood vials and reserve blood vials were piled up in the corners of the small chapel, untouched by anyone.

”His condition is stable and does not appear to be life-threatening.”

Maria, who had accompanied Lann along the way, was the first to step forward, her cold voice speaking calmly.

”No need to take risks at this time.”

”Agreed,” Henrik nodded in agreement.

The Old Hunter at this time had removed his mask, seemingly intoxicated by the morning air, devoid of the smell of blood.

At this time, in Oton Chapel, the surviving refugees had already run away ecstatic at the appearance of sunlight.

Only a few people remained here.

-----------------

In fact, Lann had simply fainted from extreme exhaustion after severely losing blood and then forcibly activating the Smaug armor’s Power Liberation·Extreme Intent.

In this battle against the Moon God, he had been pushed almost to the brink of exhaustion.

However, fortunately, whether it was the Primaris Space Marines or the Demon Hunters, both emphasized resilience and endurance in their human enhancement techniques.

So shortly after being brought to Oton Chapel, nearly three hours later, he regained consciousness.

A light ’tear’ sound, as a dagger capable of slicing through space, was used by Lann to cut open the blood vessels on his wrist.

In an instant, the blood began to flow out, pooling on the floor of the Oton Chapel.

Meanwhile, Lann’s other hand first sheathed the Demon Wolf’s Fang, then took out a pouch of syrup-coated dried fruit from his Alchemy Pouch, using it as a blood replenishing snack to munch on.

For an average person, opening up a vein on the wrist and letting it bleed was akin to suicide, but Lann even had to be careful not to let the Bersileo Forge inside his body instantly repair this wound.

Finally freed from the intense combat, he couldn’t wait to cleanse the blood in his body.

The natural replacement cycle of human blood takes about four months.

Because the lifespan of the red blood cells, which compose the main part of the blood, is approximately four months.

According to calculations made by Lann and Mentos, if his body indeed required it, he could basically complete a full blood replacement cycle in three days relying on the Bloodletting-Regeneration process.

The recovery abilities granted by the Bersileo Forge, in combination with the restorative Magic Potion of the Demon Hunter, would allow this provided he kept up with nutrition and didn’t find bloodletting to be boring.

It was fortunate that he hadn’t yet implanted the Lariman organs necessary for the subsequent surgeries of the Space Marines, otherwise, with the platelets transforming into large platelets responsible for coagulation, this cut might have been sealed within half a minute.

Watching the blood gushing from his wrist, Lann raised an eyebrow, looking at his circle of concerned friends around him.

”My blood doesn’t make you hungry, does it?”

The Demon Hunter said with a bit of teasing, especially towards Gascogne and Viola, the couple.

He clearly remembered when they opened a bottle of Yan Nan’s specialty blood cocktail at breakfast at their home, the bloody taste overwhelming the scent of alcohol.

But thinking back, that breakfast had become a long time ago.

Viola, despite her exhaustion, smiled shyly. But Gascogne was much more serious.

”Ssshhh~”

His nose twitched twice, as if savoring Lann’s blood.

”A very ordinary scent of blood, it smells nutritious, but not enticing for Yan’an.”

The Yan Nan People are intoxicated by blood, but now it seems they are mainly enchanted by the elements and power belonging to higher beings, Ancient Gods, in the blood.

This is quite different from the usual vampire-like creatures that Lann had in mind, with distinct requirements for blood.

Thus, Lann’s high-energy blood, transformed by the [Blood Reconstructive Organ], is no different from ordinary blood in the noses of Yan Nan People.

And the blood inside Lann, adjusted by the Moon God, seems to have lost its allure with the Moon God’s demise, occupying space in Lann’s body yet not serving any purpose.

Meanwhile, Gascogne chatted with Lann, while Henrik, the Old Hunter, picked up a broom from somewhere and swept the dust on the floor of Oton Chapel towards the pool of blood seeping from Lann.

The blood, now mixed with a heap of dust, instantly turned dirty and sticky, completely unacceptable even to the tastes of Yan Nan People.

”Still, be careful. From now on, we must stay away from blood.” The Old Hunter spoke cautiously while sweeping. ”We must all abstain from blood, leaving not even the slightest possibility.”

Obviously, his act of sweeping dust onto the blood was to ensure nobody would indulge the Yan Nan People’s addiction triggered by the blood.

When he first picked up the broom, the Old Hunter hesitated noticeably.

Because he didn’t quite react.

Accustomed to wielding the meat-saw knife, his hands chopped tirelessly, even forgetting how to use a broom at first.

The endless night of hunting has already taken too much from him.

And at this moment, hurried footsteps sounded from the entrance of Oton Chapel.

The cloak with crow feathers fluttered as it dashed in.

Crow Hunter Erin, still wearing the bird beak mask, let out a long breath in relief upon seeing everyone safe inside Oton Chapel.

”Ho~ did you see it?! The outside...”

”The sunlight outside.” Lann smiled and nodded perfunctorily, ”Yes, the sunlight. Everyone is talking about the sunlight, sunlight, blah blah blah.”

Earlier, Erin was asked by Lann to find Simon, who had died in a nightmare, to see what symptoms or behavior might manifest from someone emerging from a shattered nightmare, to make preparations in advance.

And while Erin was hurrying back, sunlight had already appeared over Yan’an.

”Seems it was your doing.” The Crow Hunter slowly calmed down from the surprise, somewhat enlightened, ”Of course, it could only be you.”

After speaking, she had a hint of complaint.

”But why were you in such a hurry? You acted before I could report on what you asked me to investigate?”

”And now you are in this situation...?”

The Crow Hunter’s finger pointed at the dirty, growing pool of blood mixed with dust.

”Manipulations were made during the action, the blood needs to be drained.” Lann explained one at a time. ”As for why I didn’t wait for your news...”

”I went to see Master William again, and the results he provided looked promising, so I didn’t wait any longer.”

Lann’s expression was relaxed, a mere look that was soothing enough to ease worries.

”Simon, did you find him? What’s his situation now?”

”No, I didn’t find him.” Erin shook her head, reaching her hand under the sunlit, shimmering black Crow Feather Cloak, pulling out a transformable weapon. ”I only found this.”

It was a peculiar weapon, two curved, not long, single-handed blades, seeming like they could combine into a bow?

Appearing much more intricate than common Yan’an transformable weapons.

”This was placed in where he often used to rest, found after the sunlight emerged.” Erin added, ”No bloodstains, no signs of battle. Properly placed, not forcibly abandoned.”

”Looks like he’s made up his mind to abandon everything of the Hunter, and everything of Yan’an, to leave.”

Erin said unsurprisingly.

”Ever since he fell into the Dream Realm, he has been fascinated by that nightmare. Now, his wish can be said to be fulfilled.”

”And undoubtedly, this is the correct action.” Henrik calmly stated beside. ”Just imagining Yan’an returning to night in a dozen hours sends chills down my spine.”

”I believe no one would dare stay in Yan’an at night anymore. The last night of hunting was unlike any before, people were terrified.”

Gascogne nodded, while Viola was already packing things with the children.

Outside Oton Chapel, the formerly barren Yan City now produced many noisy sounds, despite having only a few survivors left.

With the keen senses of a Demon Hunter, they were the sounds of large boxes and heavy wheels moving.

No one dared to stay in Yan’an anymore.

Before their eyes, the morning light, aside from initial warmth, may seem more like a countdown to most surviving residents.

——If one cannot leave Yan’an before nightfall, Lann thinks among the survivors there might be those who are mentally broken, choosing to simply end their lives the moment the sun sets.
