Blood Awakening: The Strongest Hybrid and His Vampire Bride

Chapter 590: I Never Wanted This for You…

Nikolai’s eyes widened upon hearing her request. He couldn’t deny that when he first met her, Sarah was his type, and if not for lacking courage, he might have slept with her. The times he went to the office. Or she stayed at his apartment.

Their eyes interlocked for several minutes.

Her hand slipped free from his lips.

He wanted to respond, but the slight tremble of her shoulders the moment his mouth opened stopped him. Nikolai’s eyes narrowed, his heart pounded, because the feelings of his squire poured into him deeper than any of his wives.

This connection would never fade as long as he didn’t release her.

‘Sarah…’

“I never wanted this.” His voice sounded hoarse, as if caught fighting a long war alone, and finally finding another human. “You know that, right?”

From the moment he met her, he’d considered what to ask of her, how far to take her role as his squire. Her dream of opening a business and living a lavish life was something he couldn’t give her at the start.

But look at her now!

She’d earned it for herself!

“Ahem.” He cleared his throat and sat up in bed, reaching out and touching her soft, silky blonde hair. After she became his squire, the last time they interacted was in her office when he almost kissed her. “What you’ve achieved in such a short time is amazing.”

Her cheeks turned a deeper red.

While peeking at his face, she curled her lips.

“Mm.”

“Do you know that remaining my squire and standing beside me will be much harder? Are you sure about this?”

Despite hearing what she wanted, Nikolai also needed to respect and show her sincerity in response. This business was her dream; there was no chance she’d abandon it for anything without thinking or a good reason. No, he could see the reason. Her emotional colours, thoughts and even the more detailed feelings transferred through their bond.

“I know.” Sarah’s smooth voice trembled slightly as she placed both hands around his wrist, and he felt the bump of her pulse pounding.

Nikolai and her gaze remained interlocked as he sat up as far as possible and sincerely asked her the most important question on his mind.

“What do you want from me?”

“I-I said that I—?” She looked stunned as he shook his head with a smile, while tapping her head gently.

“Not that. Tell me if there are other reasons. Why do you want to fight for me, with me, and risk your life? Sarah.”

His words echoed in the white room.

Her body was trembling as everything he said sank in.

.

.

.

Several minutes passed as she looked up at him.

‘I should be thinking of my reasons, but his muscles are just making my mind melt!’

Sarah’s eyes shifted away from Nikolai, with even the tips of her ears turning bright red. It wasn’t like she was some love-sick girl after living a miserable life as a normal human. A poor human at that, she understood!

He didn’t rush her and only smiled with a gentle grin.

‘Ah, really, why did you have to be good-looking and such a great catch?’

She shook her head, abandoning the wall she had used to protect herself so far, and finally, with a long, exaggerated breath, she refocused on his face.

“I like you.”

“Although I like you, that is not the only reason I wish to fight.”

“But, because I want to see the world you live, breathe and experience.”

“If possible, I want to experience it at your side.”

Nikolai didn’t interrupt her, not because of some kind of mental superiority, but rather the surprise at the sudden confession.

What mystified him was that her biggest colours of doubt, hesitation and worry suddenly vanished, catching him off guard, as the entire aura that wrapped around her was bright pink with blooming red flowers of pure soul energy.

But underneath that was a brilliant blue aura, which represented her confidence and will.

Sarah’s lips twitched as she nervously observed his face, confused that he seemed different; his eyes opened wide, and his mouth parted slightly.

‘Is he embarrassed, “that” Nikolai!?’

He seized her hand and pulled her onto his lap, Sarah’s lips letting out a cute yelp as she leaned against his firm chest. Her hands spread apart, squeezing and touching his muscles with a flush of red on her face.

“Are you sure about this, Sarah. I have more than ten women already, the time I spend with you might never match Nikita or Selene.”

Nikolai refused to lie to her.

He’d already set his heart in stone. If he accepted a woman, he wouldn’t hold back, would ensure to be honest and forward with his emotions, time and abilities.

There could be no promising the world anymore.

Sarah’s eyes narrowed, the delicate flutter of her lashes quite seductive as she lifted her head to meet his gaze. There were no doubts or second thoughts in those ocean-blue eyes, only a determined sparkle.

He enjoyed the warmth of her breath blowing against his skin as she brushed her nose against his neck. She clung to his neck with both hands and tilted her head.

“Of course, I won’t change my mind or second-guess myself anymore.”

“Why are you so foolish?”

He couldn’t help but joke, pressing his forehead against hers. Their heights were so different in his half-transformed state that it was almost comical.

Their breaths mixed as their noses squished against each other, the sweet taste of her lips barely an inch from his. Sarah’s fingers curled around the back of his neck, nails sinking lightly into his skin as if to keep him in place.

Her heart pounded in his ears.

Literally.

Through the squire bond, every flicker of emotion, every tremor of doubt, every spike of courage. Her nervousness, her embarrassment, her stubborn resolve, all of it, like he’d opened the doorway, flowed into him.

‘Damn, this girl is unfair to me.’

He closed his eyes, slowly enjoying her taste, scent and touch. Even the subtle heat from her skin brought pleasant tingles through his body. With a huff, his warm breath brushed against her cheek, like a bear.

“Sarah,” he whispered, voice low. “If you walk this road, you can’t go back to that quiet office life. No peaceful retirement. No normal family. Everything around me right now is chaotic, dangerous, and every superpowered idiot is picking fights.”

“I know.” She replied instantly.

There wasn’t even a hint of pause or hesitation anymore; it was like she had a 0ms brain.

However, he enjoyed the faint tremble of her breath.

He opened his eyes, watching those unflinching ocean-blue eyes with a smile.

‘I really can’t win.’

No matter how much he said to himself that he’d let her go and wouldn’t mind if she met someone else. Deep down, as his squire, there was a strange emotional bond, which is why most squires were of the same gender.

To stop their heirs from falling in love with them.

Nikolai’s lips twitched into a helpless smile as his hand slid from her hair to the back of her neck, thumb rubbing slow circles against her soft skin.

His hand slid to her waist, steadying her as she shifted on his lap, drawing a little closer. The faint scent of her shampoo, the warmth of her body, the way her aura so seamlessly folded and merged with his.

Like two perfectly cut puzzle pieces slotting together.

“Then at least…” he muttered, “let me be selfish too.”

Her brows furrowed before lifting gently.

“Selfish?”

“If you stay at my side,” his gaze sharpened, locking onto hers, “don’t you dare talk about sacrificing yourself in some heroic stunt. Don’t throw your life away for me. Fight with me, not instead of me. Got it?”

“From this moment, you aren’t just my squire… but also—Mmph?!”

Without giving him time to say anything else, Sarah closed the remaining distance.

“Denied,” she breathlessly denied before nibbling his lower lip.

Her lips pressed against his with a soft, almost clumsy kiss full of her intense and passionate feelings put into action. The moment they touched, heat spread through their bodies, gathering in their mouths along with the sweet, minty taste.

‘Wow…’

Nikolai’s mind felt half empty, as Sarah’s fierce desire to stand beside him, no matter how ugly the path became, all poured into him through that fragile contact.

His fingers sank deeper into her soft waist, caressing her generous curves, slowly slipping further to her round, seductive rump. For a moment, the beastly desire inside him threatened to devour her whole.

‘Calm it, we can do things in the future, don’t ruin the moment!’

He crushed the intense desires down and focused on the sweet, fruity taste of her breath.

‘Did she eat sweets before coming inside?’

The taste of her tongue and saliva as they entwined reminded him of the candy sold by an old lady near his father’s apartment. Sweet, creamy and a little overindulgent.

When they finally parted, Sarah gasped lightly, her cheeks flushed bright red, eyes misty. A thin, transparent thread of breath lingered between them.

“Haa…”

Her forehead rested against his again.

“I’m really… doing this,” she muttered, half to herself. “I’m crazy.”

“You are,” Nikolai agreed. “But it’s too late now.”

His hand moved to her sternum, palm pressing lightly over her racing heart. The bond responded, a gentle pulse of heat threading from his chest to hers. Although the soft, squishy mounds felt really satisfying to touch.

“Pervert.”

Sarah’s lips curled into a shaky smile.

“Then,” she whispered, fingers tightening around his shoulders, “please take responsibility, I don’t plan to find another man for the rest of my life.”

“Heh.” He couldn’t help but chuckle at her rampant emotions and words, and then, with a skilled twirl, he lifted and flung her on the hospital bed, looking down at her with a wolfish grin.

“I wasn’t planning to let go of you anyway.”

Sarah’s eyes opened wide as she gasped at his sudden movement before resting her head against his chest and clinging to his back. It was strange; she never thought it’d come to this, but God did she love the feeling of being embraced by his firm, muscular chest.
