Blood Awakening: The Strongest Hybrid and His Vampire Bride

Chapter 579: Hell on Earth [1]

Someone grabbed Nikolai’s shoulder from behind and shook him. “Nikolai! Snap out of it!” He turned to see Vladimir’s concerned face, and then, behind him, the hellish background erupted into complete chaos.

‘What?!’

All fifteen gates opened, and through them came a horde of bizarre, unseen monsters. Small red bodies with clawed hands tossed balls of flame that exploded on hit, tearing apart the weakest of supernaturals.

Giant, bipedal beasts with a dark pink fleshy hide and a massive mouth the size of a car dashed through their initial barriers. These massive beasts, taller than eight feet, stomped and crushed cars and trucks like toys.

Obey me!

Serve and surrender!

Cleanse the filth from this world!

‘This damn voice!’

Pah!

Pah!

Nikolai lifted his palm and slapped himself twice.

The blows left two dark red handprints on either side, but his eyes lost their shock, becoming sharp and focused. “Prepare for battle! Vladimir, take control of your blood knights! Combat Maids, group up and cover each other!”

Ra-ta-ta-ta!

Their MP5-based submachine guns howled through the air, and small 9mm bullets tore the little red imps apart. Yet barely tore the fleshy hides of the giant dog-like beasts. Their sharp fangs, at least ten inches long, easily punctured any fleshy being that came close.

“Captain Levin, this is too dangerous to fight in close combat!”

The members of the SSS carried customised anti-monster rifles. Although slow to fire, the stopping power was enough to take down monsters like Vernan in his bear form. With their help, the imp and the dogs should be manageable.

“Damn it!”

Nikolai cursed while flicking his wrist, and the heaven-slaying spear expanded, two metres of pure death slipped into his hand.

The cool sensation of the shaft spread through his hands, helping to calm his mind further. He concentrated his senses, the growling imps, the sound of two massive feet, like a dinosaur stomping.

‘This is it, the battlefield.’

Soon after his eyes opened, and the world became bizarre, no colour, even the scent of death vanished as Nikolai focused on the tiniest and most important details. The spearmanship of the Fenrir focused on their Golden Form.

A form they could maintain for at most a minute.

This slaying spear art focuses on killing as many things as possible during this time limit.

Nikolai tapped his earpiece; among the shouting and unsteady voices, he could only hear the important ones. “I’m leaving command to you.”

Then with a second tap, he tossed the earpiece to the side.

“GRRRR!”

What a surprise!

A giant pink dog faced him down about two hundred metres away.

‘Good, come!’

Nikolai motioned to the monster, his left hand beckoning the massive beast, while his right hand spun and coiled his spear tightly against his body, lowering his hips. He became like a tense spring about to snap.

The monster kicked and scraped the floor like a bull about to charge.

‘Let me borrow your power, Wife.’

He calmly blew the air from his lungs and paused.

Nikolai’s muscles tightened as his hair shimmered with a faint arc of golden light; strand by strand, it glowed with a luminous light. Along with this, the ground beneath his cracked, lines spreading from his feet like spiderwebs.

The beast pushed off the ground with a boom, leaving behind a deep crater and a destroyed car, darting towards Nikolai with its voracious mouth wide open.

“Phew…”

A pungent breath left Nikolai’s lips; the sordid air faded as black veins pushed from underneath his skin.

His muscles bulged, bones creaked, and nerves screamed.

In his current state, he could see everything clearly; the movement of the dog’s body appeared to be at half speed. Ashes floated across the air, like a slideshow from the early 2000s.

Everything went from 300+ FPS to 30 at most!

Ba-Dum

Ba-Dum

Ba-Dum

All Nikolai could hear now was his blood pumping through his powerful heart. The screams and shouts, cries and roars all vanished as his body became optimised for combat.

‘Sixty seconds.’

Fwoosh!

Nikolai tapped the ground gently, yet it exploded from the force.

His movement sent thousands of tiny rocks and shards into the air as he pierced towards the dog-beast with his spear tucked beneath his right armpit, long blade shimmering in the dark red sun above.

“GRRRRR!”

A red light gathered in the monster’s mouth as Nikolai reached less than two metres away.

However, he didn’t stop!

Instead, he slammed his right foot and stomped the ground, increasing his speed explosively as his body shot through the air.

Pierce!

Nikolai’s blade entered the monster’s mouth, slicing the soft flesh easily, and his body ripped through the massive dog’s back, tearing the monster in half.

With a sudden crash, Nikolai’s body slammed into a car, his body sinking into the chassis as if it were putty.

The force bent the car around him like a C, but Nikolai couldn’t relax; his head leaned to the side and jumped forward after feeling a tingling sensation of danger. It forced his Báthory blood art to activate.

A second later, two imps tossed small fireballs at him, destroying the car behind.

Without taking a breath, he stood and pulled back his arm with a smirk. The two imps bounced and made strange noises as fire gathered around their palms again.

He tossed the spear like an ancient javelin, aiming to pierce the moon. It shot out with a booming howl. The sound was like a jet breaking the sound barrier close to a building and shattering the windows.

Nikolai rushed forward and grabbed the spear.

Which flung him towards the imps at more than 300Mph.

Clang!

The moment it penetrated the imp’s throat, and pinned him to the wall behind, with such a force that half the weapon buried itself into the wall.

‘Wow…’

Dazed by the sudden pseudo-flight, he looked to the side and saw the imp’s ugly face up close, and before it could attack, he punched it.

Crack!

With a single blow, the imp’s skull collapsed. Exploded might be a better term, as shards of bone and grey matter burst in a wide arc behind it—the damage as if it swallowed a 4-gauge buckshot at almost point-blank range.

“Phew…”

Shling!

Nikolai couldn’t help but drag the spear free, his muscles almost exploding from the pressure keeping it stuck in the stone. He turned around to find hundreds of imps all looking at him like prey.

’30 seconds left…’

He didn’t stall and instead poured more blood into his muscles. The world became monotone; everything but the landscape and imps vanished.

And with a single step, his body appeared several metres away, with an imp’s throat impaled, another crushed by his left hand. “Let’s fight, you filthy little invaders!”

Stop Him!

He must be cleansed!

For the great One!

Once again, the strange voice sounded while immersed in the massacre of countless imps, crushing, tearing, ripping, boring. Nikolai glanced up to find that almost every creature suddenly focused on his location.

‘That fucking voice!’

He stood atop a pile of over fifty imp corpses, his power growing as their life force seeped into his flesh. Nikolai hadn’t experienced growth like this since he killed 20 humans in Londis when chasing Madoka.

However, at this moment, this hair lost its golden shine and drooped down to his shoulders. A moment later, all the muscles in his body cramped wildly, and blood oozed from his nose, a constant stream leaking as bells rang inside his ears.

“Fuck!”

Nikolai dragged his spear from the imp he just killed, and flicked its blood clear with a half-spin, letting the silver pole lean against his shoulder.

‘I’m fucked, why was the drawback so intense!?’

Whenever he used Nikita’s blood art in the past, his body never felt so tired. If anything, he could use it multiple times. His body was so hot that steam hissed from his exposed flesh, sweat bubbled and evaporated the moment it leaked from his pores.

Hundreds of imps, dozens of dogs, and his gut told him something else might come from these portals.

He noticed the smaller gates only produced imps, while the medium gates produced dogs and imps, so then his mind became cold, focused and sharp. But then he thought about the two big gates, one to his left, the other where Vladimir’s blood knights fought with claymores made of blood.

“Well, looks like I can’t half ass this.”

Nikolai shrugged, glancing down at the horde of monsters.

He pulled out his customised Desert Eagle and, without waiting, began gunning down the smaller imps.

Deng!

Deng!

Deng!

The roar of his high-calibre magnum devoured their lives, each shot enough to blow their skulls apart. He used the spear to control the area around him, jumping, vaulting to avoid their fireballs.

Deng!

Nikolai didn’t find the imps dangerous, but that was only for him.

He noticed the struggling maids and several corpses of people he had spoken to a few minutes ago, and the buildings around the area vanished. Thanks to the dogs, most of the places to hide the wounded vanished. The dogs destroyed the foundation and walls, then imps climbed inside, creating an inferno of death.

‘Damn it!’

Thankfully, he sent his three wives home earlier; the chaotic fight brought a sense of dystopia… scars, wounds and burns accumulated as he fought the imps, desperate to regroup with the SSS or combat maids.

However, moving a few metres in this chaotic fight was like traversing a mountain without equipment in sub-zero temperatures.

Fireballs, broken bodies tossed aside—massive dogs with frames like tanks.

Nikolai leaned against an old bus, panting as he glanced at the chaotic trail he left. The dense aura that flowed inside him matched nothing he’d felt before. If the density of a human’s aura carried four notches of power, an imp carried ten!

The issue was that after slaying over a hundred, his thirst and hunger for blood grew stronger, and he struggled to keep his mentality straight; he could only smash his head against the stone wall.

BANG!

“Ugh…” As blood oozed down his face, the throbbing headache and warmth were a little comforting as colour, light, sound and other sensations returned to Nikolai, who had spent himself using the Fenrir Blood Art.

Overlooking the burning hellscape, he gripped his spear and took a deep breath.

The taste of ash, blood, and filth filled his lungs as he rushed towards the SSS, who were struggling the most while protecting a group of wounded Combat maids.

With a roar, Nikolai tossed his spear at a dog, charging Captain Levin.

VWOOSH!

“I’ll use anything I can get to win!”
