Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 684: Chapter 684: How Did Jiayuan Request Extended Leave from Her Workplace?

When Grandma Su, the neighbor of the Gu family, arrived, Gui Kailan was quite happy, but knowing that her brother was about to leave, she felt very down.

Grandma Su patted her hand, saying, ”Kairong needs to go to work, let’s not hold him back, okay?”

Although Gui Kailan was unhappy, she knew she was already a burden and couldn’t let her brother’s work be affected because of her: ”Okay, Grandma Su, you just stay with me.”

Gui Kairong promised his sister that he’d come to see her as soon as he finished his work and repeatedly instructed Grandma Su before leaving.

In the days that followed, Huo Jingrui moved back to the factory and rarely returned to the small courtyard.

On the second day of her arrival, Huo Jiayuan called her workplace to take extended leave. Following Yunyi’s advice, she spent time each day reviewing high school textbooks, and the rest of her time, she was either cooking with Grandma Su and learning sewing or visiting Yunyi.

The residents of the compound learned that Vice Factory Director Huo’s sister had come. Initially, they were gloating, thinking that with the arrival of the future sister-in-law, Yunyi, the future sister-in-law, might not have good days ahead.

Everyone was waiting to see Yunyi’s embarrassment.

But to everyone’s surprise, the relationship between the sisters-in-law was excellent.

Every noon, Yunyi would return to the compound for lunch, one reason being that Grandma Su’s cooking was quite good and suited her taste, and another being that Yunyi gave acupuncture treatments to Gui Kailan every day.

In the afternoon after work, she would also give Gui Kailan a half-hour massage.

A month later, Gui Kailan’s episodes became less frequent, and Grandma Su cried several times out of excitement. When she received a phone call from Gui Kairong, she was even more euphoric and became incoherent.

After all, for so many years, Gui Kailan would have relapses every now and then.

But ever since Yunyi started treating Gui Kailan, the time between episodes grew longer, which gave her hope and made her believe that one day Gui Kailan could return to normal. If that day ever came, she could finally be at ease, and if she passed away, she could share this good news with the Gu family’s parents and bring them peace.

Huo Jiayuan hadn’t mentioned her extended leave to her family, but Jiang Jingya realized it had been over a month and her daughter hadn’t returned, so she couldn’t sit still any longer.

She called Huo Jingrui right away: ”Jingrui, what’s going on with Jiayuan? Why hasn’t she come back from her break?”

Huo Jingrui had been busy these days and had really forgotten about it. He had only phoned home to assure them after his sister’s second day there, but he certainly couldn’t talk about the college entrance exams over the phone: ”Mom, Jiayuan likes staying here, let her stay a bit longer, don’t worry, we’ll take care of her; I’ll ask her to call you back later.”

She knew the pain of heartbreak is hard to cure, so after a sigh, she said, ”I understand.”

But the very next day, Jiang Jingya ran into Huo Jiayuan’s manager. After some pleasantries, Jiang Jingya learned that her daughter had taken extended leave from her job.

She couldn’t care about anything else at the moment and went back home, and called Huo Jingrui again: ”Jingrui, why did Jiayuan take extended leave from work?”

Afraid that his mother would worry, Huo Jingrui quickly lied: ”Mom, Sister Kailan from the Gu family is here....”

Before he could finish, Jiang Jingya asked puzzledly: ”Why would Kailan go there?”

Huo Jingrui explained: ”Last time, because of the movie shooting, Brother Kairong met Yunyi and knew her medical skills were excellent, so they brought Sister Kailan over.”

Jiang Jingya didn’t expect her daughter-in-law’s medical skills to be so impressive. After all, because of Gui Kailan’s illness, Gui Kairong had sought numerous renowned doctors but never completely cured it; it would occasionally recur and couldn’t withstand any provocation.
