Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 542: Chapter 542: The Course of True Love Never Did Run Smooth

When Xiao Caihong saw Yunyi, she excitedly grabbed her hand: ”Sister-in-law, I’m really so grateful to you.”

Yunyi thought to herself, even if her medical skills were exceptional, they couldn’t possibly take effect so quickly. Where did this gratitude come from?

She heard Xiao Caihong awkwardly whispering: ”This time when my period came, it wasn’t as painful as before, making me want to roll on the ground.”

Yunyi nodded in understanding: ”That’s good, it’s a good start. Sit down, and I’ll check your pulse again to see if we need to adjust your prescription.”

Xiao Caihong, now completely convinced of Yunyi’s medical skills, quickly sat down and extended her arm.

After checking the pulse, Yunyi said: ”The situation’s quite good. I’ll adjust your prescription slightly. This time, drink it for seven days, and after the New Year’s fifth day, come back. I’ll give you acupuncture for a few days and prepare some pills for regulation. I believe it won’t be long before you achieve your wish.”

Thinking about the child, Xiao Caihong, after her excitement, choked up a bit: ”Previously, Guo Qiming always consoled me by saying things would work themselves out, but for so long, I was ready to give up. It’s you, sister-in-law, who gave me hope again.”

Yunyi patted her shoulder: ”Good things come to those who wait.”

After helping Xiao Caihong adjust her prescription, she finally looked at Guo Qiming, who had been standing silently at the door.

Yunyi pointed to a stool: ”Come over, I’ll check your pulse too.”

Guo Qiming appeared calm, but his heart was already surging with emotion.

He had initially thought that if his wife remained childless, he would adopt one or two kids from his sisters, as nephews and nieces are also part of the Guo Family’s bloodline.

Now, knowing there’s hope for his own child, he felt truly excited.

After prescribing for both of them, Yunyi considered inviting them for lunch, but Guo Qiming had a meeting in the afternoon, so they couldn’t stay.

Looking at the gifts they brought: ”Next time you come, don’t bring anything, or you needn’t visit at all.”

Guo Qiming was about to speak when Xiao Caihong said: ”These are things useful for you, our token of affection. Besides, with the New Year approaching, it’s just our festival gifts.”

Yunyi knew it wasn’t practical to make them take it back once it was brought: ”Wait here for a moment.”

Yunyi left the clinic, returned to her courtyard, and took out a jar of honey and a pack of tea from her stash before returning to the clinic: ”Since you still have matters to attend to, I won’t keep you. Take this honey and tea with you.”

The couple didn’t decline, and Xiao Caihong accepted with a smile: ”Thank you, sister-in-law; then we won’t stand on ceremony.”

After seeing them off, Doctor Qiu called a meeting, stating that from the twenty-eighth of the twelfth lunar month until the ninth of the first month, they would take turns on duty.

Yunyi was scheduled to be on duty on the second day of the new year.

These days, there weren’t many patients in the clinic, so being on duty was quite leisurely.

Just after the meeting adjourned, they heard shouting outside: ”Doctor, quickly, save them!”

Hearing the commotion, Yunyi and Doctor Qiu both stepped out of the office.

Once outside, they saw several bloodied people being carried over on a door plank.

Nurse Chen Xiaojuan was quite frightened by the sight: ”What happened?”

Yet, as she asked, no one answered her.

Yunyi and Doctor Qiu quickly instructed them to carry the injured into the examination room.

The patient Yunyi attended to, after a thorough examination, was found to have not only a smashed head but also a broken left leg and arm. She wondered: how deep a hatred does this take to attack so viciously?

After a flurry of activity, they even missed lunch.

From the ramblings of the people involved, they pieced together that some were from the neighboring Zhang Family Village, and others from the neighboring town, and the reason for the fight was bizarre.

The youngest daughter of the Qu Family from the neighboring town married Zhang Dali from Zhang Family Village. However, after marriage, Zhang Dali never won her affection. It was said the marriage was a result of a debt the Qu Family owed to the Zhang Family, and it was the elders’ decision.

Unexpectedly, the couple couldn’t get along, constantly quarreling. After giving birth to a son, the Qu Family’s daughter seldom stayed at her in-laws’. Later, to compensate her, the Qu Family found her a job.

This gave the Qu Family’s daughter an excuse to claim being busy with work, staying away for long periods, eventually not returning for months.

She left her son for her in-laws to care for, and despite earning a salary, neither her in-laws, her husband, nor even her son received any financial support from her.

But Zhang Dali liked her, so he endured it.

Eventually, when even thinking about her wouldn’t suffice, he went to the town to find her because they had given her a single room through gifts.

Each time he went, he shamelessly stayed over to quench his longing.

This went on for years, and eventually, she practically stopped visiting Zhang Family Village without any significant reason. Even though Zhang Dali loved her, over time, his heart cooled.

The Zhang Family tried many times to persuade the Qu Family, but the youngest daughter of the Qu Family simply didn’t listen and behaved as she pleased.

Seeing the New Year approaching, the Zhang Family’s matriarch decided to talk to her daughter-in-law herself, asking her not to work overtime this year and come home for New Year’s. After all, their child had grown, and if things continued like this, could they sustain their family life?

However, a few words from the Qu Family’s young daughter sent her mother-in-law packing.

Feeling furious, the Zhang Family matriarch harshly said that if she didn’t return for New Year, they would have her son divorce her afterward.

Possibly too agitated and not paying attention to her surroundings, it was also bad luck for her not to notice the runaway donkey across the road. By the time she reacted, it was too late.

In a panic, to avoid the charging donkey, she leapt into the roadside ditch, injuring her leg.

The incident with the Zhang Family matriarch was caused by going to see her daughter-in-law, so the Zhang Family frequently sought out the Qu Family’s daughter, but she ignored them, saying coldly: ”If you’re sick, see a doctor. It’s useless to find me.”

This enraged the Zhang Family, who declared they’d file for divorce after the New Year.

Because the Zhang Family was truly hardened, some took advantage of the situation.

The Zhang Family’s neighbor’s daughter, Wang Chunhua, had returned home temporarily after her husband passed away and was looking for a new match. Learning of the Zhang Family’s situation, she often visited them.

One thing led to another, and she found herself drawn to Zhang Dali, and somehow, they ended up together.

By coincidence, influenced by family members weighing benefits and losses, the Qu Family’s young daughter decided to return to see her mother-in-law and soften her stance with her husband, Zhang Dali, intending to live better together thereafter.

After all, Zhang Family father and son were renowned craftsmen in a large area, with a well-off family. After a divorce, finding an in-law with a better household was uncertain. But just as she resolved to return, she accidentally caught Zhang Dali and the neighbor Wang Chunhua in their secret affair.
