Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 531: Chapter 531 Donations, Fulfilling Wishes

She covered the bed and cabinets with sheets, put on her coat, and looked out the door, seeing Huo Jingrui walk into the courtyard.

She stepped out, carrying her bag. Huo Jingrui quickly walked over and took it from her. ”Let’s go. I’ll take you for some mutton offal soup.”

After locking the door, Yunyi stored the key in her space. ”Sounds good. It’s quite cold today; a bowl of soup would be perfect to warm up.”

As they talked, they walked out of the alley.

As they neared the alley’s exit, they heard Wei Hongyan calling out, ”Yunyi, wait a minute!”

Yunyi turned to see Wei Hongyan running towards them, panting. ”What are you doing here? Don’t you have work today?”

Wei Hongyan shoved a cloth bag into Yunyi’s arms and immediately turned to run back. ”My mom boiled these eggs for you. Take them for the road. I’m going to be late for work, so I have to go!”

Yunyi was about to ask if Wei Hongyan wanted a ride, but then she saw someone in the distance waiting for her with a bicycle. So that’s why!

Exiting the alley, they happened upon a neighbor. ”Yunyi, are you heading back to Ji Province?”

Yunyi smiled. ”Hello, Auntie Zhuang. I’ve finished my business here and plan to return today.”

The woman, Auntie Zhuang, looked at Huo Jingrui, who had closed the car door and was waiting beside it. ”And this is?”

Yunyi glanced at Huo Jingrui and introduced him generously, ”This is my fiancé, Huo Jingrui.”

She then said to Huo Jingrui, ”Jingrui, this is Auntie Zhuang. She lives in our alley.”

Huo Jingrui nodded. ”Hello, Auntie Zhuang.”

Auntie Zhuang could tell at a glance that Huo Jingrui was no ordinary person. ”This young man is so full of vigor! Excellent, excellent.”

Perhaps thinking that the Chu Family had no elders left, she looked at Huo Jingrui and added, ”Young man, Yunyi is a truly top-notch young woman. You must cherish your good fortune and never mistreat her.”

Huo Jingrui understood her kind intentions. ”Don’t worry, Auntie Zhuang. I will definitely treat her well.”

Seeing he wasn’t being perfunctory but speaking with such seriousness, Yunyi couldn’t help but smile. ”Auntie Zhuang, we’re in a hurry, so we’ll get going.”

Auntie Zhuang moved aside, waving them off.

Once in the car, Huo Jingrui told her about Qin Lijuan and Fang Zhichun.

She had no sympathy for them. Although the original Yunyi hadn’t truly suffered much since being adopted by the Chu Family, if Qin Lijuan and Fang Zhichun hadn’t been so twisted, the original owner wouldn’t have been separated from her biological family.

Even now that she had been acknowledged by the Ye Family and they wanted to compensate her, the fact remained that they had never lived together, and a sense of distance inevitably existed.

Yunyi had never considered returning to live with the Ye Family. After all, in the original owner’s heart, the Chu Family was her real family, and she had no desire to go back and stage a drama competing for favor.

Besides, Ye Wenyue was the Ye family’s biological child. Even if Father Ye and Mother Ye said that each should stick to their own family, if a conflict arose between her and Ye Wenyue, they wouldn’t necessarily take her side.

Knowing that those people had received their due punishment, she felt a surge of satisfaction. They truly dug their own graves.

Huo Jingrui took Yunyi for mutton offal soup with baked buns. Afterwards, they went to the bank. They withdrew all the money from the several passbooks, including the interest, and donated the entire sum, not a cent less, to Tang City. They specified that the funds be used for the resettlement of orphans after the disaster.

The donors were listed as the deceased members of the Chu Family: Old Master Chu, Father Chu, and Mother Chu.

This was a considerable charitable donation, and a dedicated official assisted them throughout the process. Afterwards, they were issued a donation certificate.

Old Master Chu had done many good deeds in his lifetime. This donation was also a way of fulfilling the wishes of the deceased Chu family members.

Following that, Yunyi also donated a sum of money in her own name. Like the Chu family’s funds, it was designated for supporting the care of orphans after the disaster, and she also received a donation certificate.
