Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 510: Chapter 510 This Family Must Be Divided Today

Chu Xinming had not expected the old master of the Chu Family to erupt like this. ”Dad, it’s all my fault for not managing this woman properly. Don’t be angry. I’ll discipline her right away. We won’t split up the family.”

But Chu Yucheng said this was no joke. ”What did I tell you before you came to Beijing, and what did you promise me? You’ve abandoned the foundation the Chu Family had in Ning City for decades to run off to Beijing, and still, you don’t restrain yourselves.

”I made it crystal clear last time: if there’s another incident, we would split the family. But you’ve ignored my words. This family must split now! I won’t let your Second House drag down the main house any longer.”

As soon as Chu Yucheng finished speaking, Jiang Yuli immediately objected, ”Wasn’t everything I said for the sake of the family? Why do I get no credit for it in the end? With you talking like this, Dad, how are Xinming and I supposed to live in the future? If we live well, that’s one thing, but if not, won’t Xinming and the children blame me?”

Regardless of how unwilling the people from the Second House were, Chu Yucheng ignored them and went back to his room. He brought out the chest containing the family’s valuables, declaring, ”The family must be divided today.”

The patriarch knew the Second House had never been a source of peace.

When the eldest son and Second Brother used their connections to get into the screw factory, Second Brother’s wife insisted on moving to the city. Had he not opposed it, their household registration would have become urban.
Thankfully, he hadn’t agreed; otherwise, the children in the family would have had to go to the countryside, and that would truly have been a case of the losses outweighing the gains.

If it hadn’t been for Jiang Yuli coveting what she shouldn’t have, Xiaocao wouldn’t have encountered those problems. His own grandson wouldn’t have gotten into a conflict with that person to protect his sister, which subsequently led to those people coming to their house every few days to cause trouble, giving the family no peace.

Now that they were in Beijing, the couple from the Second House showed no hint of remorse. If they all continued to live together, the main house would sooner or later be dragged down by them. Furthermore, once the eldest son and Second Brother established themselves at the screw factory, their household registrations would also be settled there.

Currently, every household in the city was required to have someone go to the countryside. Although his son-in-law had said he would try his best to arrange jobs for them, urban positions were scarce, with each one essentially spoken for; it wasn’t that easy to secure one.

They hadn’t even officially settled their household registrations yet, and the Second House was already scheming. One didn’t need to think hard to imagine what kind of days lay ahead for the family. It was better to split up now and let each rely on their own abilities.

The couple from the main house were not without resentment that their son had been implicated in the Second House’s affairs. After all, their son had lost his good temporary job just like that. If not for their capable brother-in-law and their own swift actions, the jobs of the main house’s husband and Second Brother might also have been snatched away if they had been a few days slower.

But what was done was done. No matter how angry they were, what could they do? They were all family and could only stick together through thick and thin. Yet, they had only just settled in Beijing, and the Second House was already stirring up trouble again.

Chu Yucheng took the account book and Money Coupons from the chest. Without considering the opinions of his second son and daughter-in-law, he directly divided the contents into three portions. ”Each house gets one share, and I take one share. From now on, I will live with the main house. The Second House will give me three yuan a month as support for my old age. Of course, this support money won’t remain fixed; it will adjust with changes in the cost of living in the future.”

As he spoke, he pushed the shares in front of them. ”If you have any objections, the family account book is right here. You can look at it.”

Seeing that her father-in-law was resolute about dividing the family, Jiang Yuli no longer cared about others’ stares. She directly took the account book and called out to her eldest daughter, Chu Xiaojue, who wasn’t far off, ”Come over and check if these accounts are correct.”

Although Chu Xiaojue also wanted to see if her grandfather had secretly kept anything back, being asked to inspect the accounts in front of the entire family instantly made her face burn with embarrassment.
