Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 503: Chapter 503: Really Can Boast

Chu Yucheng stepped out of the house but didn’t leave. After calming himself, he called into the house, ”Xinming, come out. I have something to tell you.”

Chu Xinming didn’t have time to continue scolding his wife and hurried out of the house. ”Dad, go on.”

Chu Yucheng glanced at his second son. ”If your wife causes trouble again, we’ll do as your sister-in-law suggests. Prepare yourself for that.”

After speaking, he didn’t look at his second son’s expression and went straight back to his own room.

Chu Xinming stood there for a long time without moving. His branch of the family has no sons, so he’ll have to depend on his nephew for care in his old age. If the family splits, what will he do then?

Xia Dongxue and Ye Bingyu showed off at the Xia Family’s home before finally leaving, content, just before dinner.

As soon as they left, Xia Yishan from the Second House of the Xia Family said unhappily, ”I wish I were Aunt’s daughter.”

The moment she said this, her mother, Su Yutang, slapped her. ”You wretched girl! Look at yourself. Do you think you’re fated for that?”

Xia Yishan, smarting from the slap, clutched the spot she was hit and jumped up. ”Am I even your real daughter? You hit so hard! Aren’t you afraid of knocking me silly?”

Su Yutang rolled her eyes at her. ”It’s not like you’re very bright now, either.”

Xia Yishan had always been quite envious of Ye Wenyue. Ye Wenyue was pampered and protected by her aunt, uncle, and several male cousins. When Xia Yishan learned Ye Wenyue wasn’t her aunt’s biological daughter, she felt a bit of schadenfreude, thinking this might be better for her. Perhaps she would become more favored in her aunt’s heart. After all, the newly found cousin hadn’t lived with their aunt, so their emotional bond couldn’t be as strong as hers, a niece. And since Ye Wenyue wasn’t her aunt’s biological daughter, it was natural that she wouldn’t be as favored as before. But she was wrong. Her aunt and uncle seemed to dote even more on the newly found cousin. Even though the cousin said she wouldn’t return to live with the Ye Family, they still redecorated a room for her. They were overjoyed and boasted for a long time just because she had one meal with them.

At that moment, the Old Madam of the Xia Family chimed in, ”Yishan, when your cousin Yunyi comes back, look after her more. You’re a smart girl. You must see how much your aunt and uncle value this daughter. Being on good terms with your cousin only has benefits, no drawbacks.”

Xia Yishan was certainly not foolish. ”It’s a shame she’s not planning to return to live with the Ye Family. Even if I want to get on good terms with her, I won’t be able to see her.”

After saying this, she added, ”I really don’t understand what Cousin Yunyi is thinking. If she just asked, Aunt and Uncle would find a way to get her residency in the city. But she insists she’ll return to the city by her own merits. She sure can talk big.”

Su Yutang, seeing her daughter talking nonsense yet again, said, ”Day in and day out, all you do is worry about such useless things! Don’t you realize that after the New Year, you’ll be graduating from high school too? You should worry about yourself first.”

Xia Yishan wasn’t concerned. ”Our family hasn’t split up. My sister Yirong and my brother have already gone to the countryside. Around here, even if they were picking by turns, it wouldn’t be me. Besides, many families have only sent one person, and we’ve already sent two.”

Su Yutang knew her daughter wasn’t wrong about that. ”Alright, but don’t say such things outside. It’s easy to provoke people. Don’t bring trouble on yourself.”

Xia Yishan gave a HMPH. ”I’m not stupid. I would never say that in public.”

She had already made up her mind. Since the newly found cousin wasn’t planning on returning to the city, she would ask her aunt and uncle to help her find a job after the New Year. After all, her younger male cousin was still in school, so it would be a while before he needed to look for a job.
