Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 536: Chapter 536: Don’t get involved in this matter; reject it quickly.

Carrying luggage in one hand and leading Yunyi with the other, the two made their way toward the family quarters.

Just as they arrived at the gate of Huo Jingrui’s assigned courtyard, they happened to meet someone from Director Feng’s family next door coming out. ”Oh, Vice Factory Director Huo is back! And who is this?”

Huo Jingrui nodded to the speaker. ”Auntie, good day. This is my fiancée, Chuyunyi.”

Turning to Yunyi, he introduced, ”This is Director Feng’s wife, Auntie Luo Yuping.”

Luo Yuping had heard people in the courtyard discussing Vice Factory Director Huo’s fiancée before. She hadn’t expected her to be as beautiful as the rumors said. ”Did you two go to Beijing to meet the parents together?”

She had indeed heard from her husband, Director Feng, that the new Vice Factory Director Huo had gone to Beijing on a business trip to attend a seminar. He had also planned to take his fiancée to meet his parents.

Huo Jingrui nodded. ”Yes.”

Luo Yuping said with a teasing smile, ”Does that mean we’ll be having wedding drinks soon?”

Huo Jingrui’s lips curved into a smile as he turned to look at Yunyi beside him. ”I’m waiting for her to grow up a bit more. It should be soon.”

At this remark, Luo Yuping laughed out loud. ”I never would have thought the usually reticent Vice Factory Director Huo could show such a side! You two must be tired from the long journey. You should go inside and rest.”

Luo Yuping didn’t think her words were inappropriate. After all, they were an engaged couple who had met each other’s parents, so staying together temporarily was no issue.

Huo Jingrui didn’t explain. Even if he wished to, he wouldn’t cross any boundaries before they were married. This was not just out of responsibility for Yi’er’s reputation, but also out of respect for her.

After entering the house, Huo Jingrui busied himself with starting the stove. Once the room was warm, he told Yi’er, ”Yi’er, after I leave later, just lock the doors and windows and go rest in your space. Don’t worry about the fire; I’ve sealed it well.”

Yunyi really wished he would stay. However, she didn’t want any unsavory rumors to spread before they were married. This wasn’t the modern era, after all, and who knew how many people were waiting to catch Huo Jingrui making a misstep.

She nodded. ”I know. Didn’t you just heat some water? Hurry up, take a shower, and change your clothes so you can get a good sleep later.”

He knew Yunyi would surely soak in the hot spring in her space, so the heated water would go unused. Therefore, he didn’t refuse.

He carried the heated water into the washroom and poured it into the large tub hanging on the wall. Then, he took some fresh clothes, closed the door, and prepared to take a shower.

「Next door, at Director Feng’s house.」

”Old Feng, I just met Vice Factory Director Huo and his fiancée at the main gate.”

Director Feng paused from flipping through his newspaper. ”He’s back?”

Luo Yuping nodded. ”His fiancée is truly beautiful. Vice Factory Director Huo is indeed fortunate.”

Director Feng frowned slightly. It seemed everything Huo Jingrui had said was true; he wasn’t just fobbing off Deputy County Mayor Gao by claiming to have a fiancée.

Luo Yuping, who didn’t know about this, waved her hand in front of his face. ”Old Feng, what are you thinking about?”

Director Feng came back to himself. ”The niece of Deputy County Mayor Gao has been working as a ’sent-down youth’ in the village below us. She stays here from time to time and has set her sights on Vice Factory Director Huo.”

Luo Yuping really didn’t know about this. ”I’ve seen that niece of his. Not only is she average-looking, but she’s also delicate and troublesome. Vice Factory Director Huo would not be interested in her.”

Director Feng put down the newspaper he was holding. ”Deputy County Mayor Gao’s wife even asked me to mention it to Vice Factory Director Huo again. Now I can save myself the trouble.”

Luo Yuping glanced out the window. ”Vice Factory Director Huo only has eyes for his fiancée. You’d better not get involved. Just refuse outright.”
